Hello I am 28 and have 2 girls. I have been on the pill since last September and have always started on the same pill every time. This past pack I was supposed to
start Saturday. Well, I still haven't started and I have taken two test and they both say negative. I have called my doctor but have not heard back from them yet. DOn't know if anyone has experienced this before and what they did. I am hoping that my doctor will do blood work. I have stopped taking my pill since monday just in case the test is wrong. Please respond if you have any suggestions or ideas of what is happening :).

What can I do next?

I got pregnant while on the "patch". Difference is, I tested positive right away, IT was HOT PINK. Only to find out that I was pregnant with twins. I guess when you get pregnant on B.C. you have more chances of multiples.
My bet is, you're are Not pregnant, so don't stress. You would have tested positive right away. Go to the doc and get another test done to verify. But stressing in the mean time wont be healthy for you.

I became pregnant while on birth control in 1992 because I was really sick with strep and put on a strong dose of antibiotics. I forgot and the doctor forgot to warn me that antibiotics make BC not work. I just mention this in case you were on antibiotics last month, you just might be pregnant.

Hi J.,
It is certainly possible to get pregnant while on the pill. My 18 year old daughter is living proof! Also, the more you stress about the possibility, the less likely you are to start. Make an appointment with your doctor. And remember sometimes we are given a wonderful gift when we aren't looking for one. My daughter has been such a blessing in my life, every day I am thankful that the pill didn't work.

Sometimes stress will throw off your cycle, as will a change in the females you are around, although i would think that the pill would over ride the second. Major stress however will win, as does simply the body changes over time. (or pregnancy) the call to your doctor will rule out any cysts or fibroids or other anomalies. I would agree to stop taking your pills until you know the cause. It sounds like you would be ok with the pregnancy & that's a great attitude for an unexpected baby.

I was on Depo for 3 years and after I got off I had 5 periods. It took me exactly 12 weeks to start my periods (the last time I was on Depo it to 18 MONTHS) I had had 5 periods and was 2 weeks late, took 2 @ home test that came up negative. My Dr said it was 1 in a million that I could get pregnant so quickly. I insisted on blood work and he said he would to humor me and that perods were probably just still regulating. If you think you might be insist on blood work. Needless to say, he called me back and said I needed to find a good OB! He was shocked! My Lil' 1 in a million is now 16 months! Good Luck!

PS
I was doing rigorous workouts and had lost 20 LBS! NO morning sickness or any other signs of pregnancy. And when they did the ultrasound I was 5 weeks and a day. It is your body. . .listen to it.

If you were taking an antibotic while you were taking the pill and didn't use any other form of BC you could be pregnant. Otherwise try to relax and hopefully you will start your cycle soon.

Best wishes

Many babies are concieved on birth control pills! It can take quite a while sometimes for a positive test result. Keep in mind that even the faintest, slightest line IS positive. There are a couple tests that can detect lower hormone levels. Check the box and they should say some thing like "can detect hCG levels at as low as 20 mIU". Standard tests cannot detect hormone levels until they are 50-100 mIU.

It is also posible to miss a period without being pregnant for a variety of reasons.

Depending on the pill, you can skip periods, or bleed when you are supposed to be off. I had this happen with my last pill. (Ortho Evra) And I had always been regular on the pill. It was so frustrating, that I gave up the pill altogether (there were other frustrating side effects too). You could always go see your doctor to try a new pill or new birth control method.

I got pregnant with our second child while on the Pill. I took 3 tests and the first 2 came back negative, two weeks later I took the third and it was positive. It was a shock as our older son was only a year and we weren't planning for a second. Number 2 will be here in the next couple weeks...and we are as excited as we were with number 1. So, if you are pg congrats!!!!

i have heard that it can happen. I would just insist on a blood test and then trust that answer. I was almost three months pregant with my now 2 year old before i got a possitive test(was on the pill then). And when i was 18 i got pregnant while on the pill but i didn't conceive until the second week of february and i had not had my period since the october before that. My docotr said the pill can do that so i was not concerned, but i went in march to get my tonsils removed and the test they gave me there was negative too so i wasn't worried about the medicine they give you. but in april i found out i was and had been since feb, unfortunatly the stuff then used to put me to sleep was not good for the baby.

But on a lighter note, I think i am a prime example that it can happen. Becasue I got pregnant twice on the pill. (i know what you are thinking too everyone says it, i bet she didn't take them right, well i am kinda neurotic about things and i have to have things done at the same time in the same way and i like my schedule so i know what to expect, so i was on time everyday with it)Needless to say i am not using the pill anymore, but i have been on the NuvaRing. and so far so good but it hasn't been as long as i had been on the pill for, so we will see.

I actually got pregnant while on birth control. I knew almost immediately but didn't get a positive at home test till I was almost 8 weeks along. A blood test can tell at 10 days. I would say definitely get a blood test done ASAP (you don't want to be off your BC for too long then you really would get pregnant!) for one and listen to your heart and body for 2. If everything in you is screaming your pregnant...then you are. If you're just nervous then you're probably not. If you are super congrats!

When I was on the pill, I would get my period late about every six to eight months. I do not know if that was becasue I was pregnant and the pill prevented the baby from implanting or that I was just late from time to time. I have since read plenty about the pill preventing implantation and that cutrrent levels of hormones in the pill do not always prevent ovulation, so I no longer use it as a method of BC, because I am EXTREMELY uncomfortable with the idea of conceiving and losing the child. I wish I had thought to have a blood test whenever I was late, so I could establish that I was NOT getting pregnant on the pill and losing the babies or that I WAS so that I could stop taking it immediately. Hope that helps.

Yes you can still get pregnant while taking birth control. I got pregnant with my son while I was on birth control but that was because I was taking an antibiotic and apparently the birth control becomes ineffective while taking an antibiotic. If you are taking any other medications with it maybe you should ask your doctor about if that could effect the birth control. I hope this helps and if your pregnant then congradulations!

Relax! This has happened to my daughter several times and she's wasn't pregnant. She was worried at first but not anymore even tho she did get pregnant on the pill. She missed taking it for several days, not consecutively, and didn't realize that the consistent dosage was so important.

One reason women get pregnant on "the pill" is because they do not take it at the same time every day. I used to take "the pill" and was not aware of that.

It is unlikely that you are pregnant. Keep in mind that pregnancy tests are not reliable until a certain amount of time has elapsed. Save your money. And try to become less anxious.

I would go to your doc. My sis was on the pill and got pregnant she took one test that was positive another that was negative and then when she went to the doc took another test that came up positive. they drew blood once and it showed she was pregnant they did a follow up and took more blood and it came back negative. you never no and nothing is 100% fool proof even oral BC. Good luck.

I am on the pill and have months where I don't even get a period and have not been pregnant. That's not to say it doesn't happen, so best thing to do is follow up with your doctor. I can take up to 4 weeks for the pregnancy test to actually register a pregnancy, so have the blood test to confirm.

Another scenario that I haven't seen mentioned: when I got pregnant last time, I wasn't on the pill, we were trying, but my period never came, but all the pregnancy tests I took (and I took many!) showed up negative. I knew something weird was going on. So I went to my doctor and she did blood tests for a week. The hcg hormone was there, but not doubling like it should. I then had 2 ultrasounds, and finally they determined it was an ectopic pregnancy in my 7th week. I would have a blood test done if your period doesn't start after a week or so, just so you could be sure. Hope this helps more than it scares you.

I have 4 children. 2 of which were concieved on the pill. Anything is possible and if you are aware of your bodily changes. Don't hesitate to be sure. My 2nd one I concieved on the pill. My husband and I insisted on being tested several times. Thank God, we listened to our feelings. I didn't have a dramatic change, just a couple pounds and a late cycle. We just knew. Better to wait, check and be sure. We are so greatful for all God's blessings.

I'll add my two cents...My 1.5 yr old is a delight for me...she's such a great girl...and she is an IUD baby!!! I got pg with an IUD...so never underestimate what the grand plan for your life is. NOTHING can stop you from having a child if it's meant to be. I also knew a couple that got pg after her tubes were tied, then he had a Vas. and they got pg again...if it's meant to be, it will happen!!

Best of luck to you and your family!!

Yes you can get pregnant on the pill no matter how good you are being. I was being very diligent about taking my BC last summer, I was even having my periods. I suddenly started getting very sick in the mornings and at night, at first I thought it was the stomach flu that was going around but it never went away. We took a home pregnancy test and it was positive and so was the doctor's test. Than when we did the initial sonogram to find out the due date we found out I had conceived ten days before my August period. So now I am pregnant with our third and due next month. I would request a blood test just to be sure. You never know!

I became pregnant while on B.C. but that was due to Anti-biotics that were not supposed to react with the pill that did. A friend of mine got pregnant while using the "patch". So it is possible. However, we both had positive tests right away. I stopped having a cycle in my twenties while on the pill. Dr said if I had no problem not having a cycle we'd leave things as they were. Maybe you did not ovualte this month so you have no cycle. Hopefully your dr gets back to you soon, is there a way that you could speak with your Dr.s nurse? Maybe she would have the answer for you, or at least be able to get the ball rolling for some blood work.
Hope this eases your mind a bit.......:)
If God brings us to it, He'll bring us through it!
Take care!

I became pregnant with my now son while on the pill. I didn't miss any pills. And it took me two weeks to finally test positive. LOL, 6 tests worth. It was the last test I bought that finally showed positive. I kept testing though bc I knew something in my body was different.

Good Luck.

BTW, I'm on Mirena now. I don't think I could trust any other type of birth control out there. Just my 2 cents.

I wouldn't worry to much about it. When I was on the pill I didn't have my period a couple of time or I was really late. And just think, if you are pregnant, you will just be blessed 1 more time.

You probably are not pregnant, if tests are neg. (if you were and already past your normal period time, you would prob. get a positive test as you'd be 4-5 weeks along), however, by stopping taking your pill, if you and your husband are still "active" and not using other forms of b.c. you could easily become pregnant. Right at the beginning of a new cycle is the most fertile time. This is how my sister had her first child, she kept waiting for her period to start (she was very irregular) to start a new pack of pills, therefore she was not on the pill consistently enough to prevent ovulation. I've always heard that you just start the next pack regardless of whether your period came or not (there are many reasons besides pregnancy that can cause you to skip a period), that is unless you hope to become pregnant now.

Good luck!

I believe the Dr's will tell you that the pill is 99% effective, WHEN taken at the same time every day and when not missing any pill. So if you have been doing that, then it might just be your body, or you could be that 1%. Hopefully the dr will be able to confirm this for you either way. Good Luck!

I got pregnant with both my daughters while on birth control pills. The pill doesn't work for everyone and sometimes it will work for a while but your body chemistry changes occasionally and you need to change brands once in a while. I would say make your doctor do a blood test. He works for you. People tend to forget that. Good luck
