Girls Weekend in Mexico

I'm looking at booking a long girls weekend in Mexico in February. We are all in our mid to late thirties. We love to dance and want to go somewhere that has a great night life, but not an entirely 20-something crowd. We were thinking Cabo, but aren't sure on that location. Any suggestions on where to go & where to stay? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Mexico is not the fun or safety of yesteryear. I have a cop friend who showed me some unpublished stats when I was considering overseas teaching there.

I would stay away from Mexico these days and head for the Caribbean.

have you checked the travel advisories for Mexico lately?
What does the travel agent say?

I would check out Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, etc.

NOT Mexico. I mean Cabo is nice, don't get me wrong...and Cancun is great too...however, if you haven't been watching the news - there are LOTS drug cartels and crime there right now...

have fun!!!

Do Los Angeles/Orange County. America can use the tourist business and there are lots of 'Mexico-type" venues there.

My parents go to a resort in Cabo every winter and love it. I can't remember the name of it, but there are a lot of them and they seem to really enjoy it and they are in their 60s and wouldn't go anywhere with a lot of crazy kids! LOL!

Any particular reason you need to go to Mexico though? If it were me, I'd stay in the states ... wine country in CA would be my first choice -- things to do other than fry in the sun during the day. But that's just me dreaming of getting away.

My husband and I and 2 other couples went to Cabo one year ago Jan 2012). We had a GREAT time. I think our age range was 37-41. Never did I feel unsafe, but we were always in a group of at least 3. We rented a house in a gated community and walked everywhere, even at night - no drinking and driving for us. I think we were about a mile from down town. The locals were great and the area was pretty clean. We did a sailboat/snorkel tour, sunset booze cruse, 4 wheeler/zip line tour and spent a bit of time just laying on the beach. Everything was AWESOME! One of the women we were with speaks fluent Spanish, so that did really help - especially when negotiating prices for the tours-never pay the price they first quote. We all plan to go back to Mexico in 2014, with our kids this time. Can't wait!

Puerto Vallarta. Not as many youngsters, nice downtown/old town area, shopping and excellent fine dining. The travel advisories don't apply to most of the major resort areas, but you can check out the State Department website to be sure. In Puerto Vallarta there are a variety of locations to stay--farther north near the airport and Marina, midway between town and the airport (kind of a hotel row area), near downtown and south of downtown. We like the midway point--short cab ride to downtown, on the beach and many nice hotel options. I am headed to PV on Saturday. We go out to dinner, but don't stay out for "nightlife" so I'm not really worried about any crime. My parents have been going every year for decades and never had a problem, but they are relatively cautious and don't generally stay out late.

ETA: I quickly checked the State Dept. website for Mexico, which lists advisories state by state. No advisories for travel to Cabo or Puerto Vallarta. Advising caution in Mazatlan. PV is located in the state of Jalisco and they do recommend you stay away from some of the state's border areas, but that does not affect PV.
