They're (I don't know who THEY are) saying that they are killing tourists, and then calling their families for ransom money...times are tough and people are nuts. Maybe look into a different island...I def would still take a vacation someplace else! Good Luck!

the drug wars have gotten bad.. and people have been kidnapped from tourist areas, robbed or beaten. If you go, just be very careful about staying at the resort and not traveling around. Don't dress to flashy and stay together. good luck. the safer areas are Cabo. Cancun, mexico city are places to watch out for.

See this link for the US state dept new warning about traveling to Mexico:

I think a 2-year-old is too young to take to Mexico, even if there wasn't a warning right now about traveling there. I was in the Yucutan region a few years ago and my husband and I were pretty careful about what we ate but still got some stomach issues- cramping, diarrhea, etc. I would not take the chance that your son gets severe diarrhea in this area. Why not choose someplace in the Caribbean where it is safe, the water is clean and the weather is just as good?

They, the all knowing counsel - Sighhhh.

Listen, whereever you travel, be it to the supermarket, or to Mexico you should be careful of your surroundings.

We took our 2 girls to Los Cabos and stayed at the Playa Grande for a week and had a fabulous time. One major drawback was that the beach was unusable, but the resort had 5 pools, 2 great for kids, 2 jacuzzis and was really nice and clean.

I have heard of killing in Mexico, but there are killings here in NJ, NY and sometimes in our own neighborhood. And guess what, you don't have to be a tourist. Pick pocketing has always been a problem, which happens a lot in Mexico as well as the Mall at Shorthills.

Go on your trip, stay safe and enjoy.

I live in Mexico City. The drug violence is limited to places on the US border that you wouldn't want to go to on vacation anayway. You'll be fine at a resort town like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta or Los Cabos.

Avoid spring breakers. If you plan on going over Easter, reserve asap because Mexican families go on vacation then and the resorts are booked by now. Food and water on the resort will be disinfected, so no risk of gastric problems. However, you'd do well not to eat off resort unless it's at a highly reputable restaurant (I'm thinking Cafe des Artistes in Vallarta as an example). And, whatever you do, don't eat food from street vendors, no matter how apppetizing it looks! Even my neighbors get sick if they eat street food.
