My Godchild will be two soon, and I am so clueless about a gift! I have girls, so buying for boys is confusing, lol! He has more toys than any child could possibly need. As his Godmother, I would like to get him something special, and not just anothter toy that will be tossed in the pile. Any suggesions?! Thanks!

What can I do next?

My son is two. If you want something he will love you can't go wrong with balls or trucks! You can buy these for under $10. If you'd like to spend more, I suggest buy the balls or truck and a savings bond.

What would you as a mother of a 2 year old like to have for your child? Toys come and go over the years but learning stays with you. At this age I always asked for some toys but I said books and coloring books. I also looked at toys and asked myself what is this teaching my child. I still look for teaching moments and my children are 16 and 19 years old. Good luck and God bless.

I made my god child a photo book of all the times we spent together and now she is 10 and every year I add pictures. You could also give him a bank and tell him that when it is full you will take him to the bank ( My sons love going to the bank every month with all their change) or Little People books are great too! Or have a book made with his name in it. Good Luck!

What about a wagon? I know it is considered a toy, but it is something to be used outside, and it would involve interaction with his mom or dad for use. Plus, it is something he would use for years! Red Ryder makes a really nice one that "grows" with the child. It even has seat belts for when they are small.

Books were always favorite gifts for my daughter, from the time she was little (still are, and she's now 19).
You could buy him a couple of inexpensive children's books, and put the rest of what you had planned to spend into a savings bond or cd in his name. He won't understand the value of it until he's much older, but by the time he's ready for college, he'll have finds available for it.

I am a big fan of photo books. You can go to a lot of different websites, Shutterfly, Snapfish, Walmart, etc. If you have a Mac, iPhoto also does photo books. I've found that iPhoto has the best quality, followed by Shutterfly. You can get a great book in the $20-30 range. I do one each year and give these for Christmas to the parents and grandparents and they are a big hit! It's more of a present for his parents now, but he'll love it when he gets older.

When my son turned 2, the special gifts he got were: a kitchen set (boyish colors), a little piano, a Pottery Barn kids "everywhere" chair with his name on it. You can find great wooden name puzzles out there too...we got ours on ebay. Or books about his name are neat too. I think llbean even sells one. At 2, my son LOVED toy power tools (mower, leaf blower, weed eater) that you can find at toysrus or walmart sometimes. Some of my favorite toy websites are www.constructiveplaythings.com, www.sensationalbeginnings.com and www.kidsurplus.com. The first 2 have great ideas and the 3rd has the best prices! Good luck!!!

The wagon idea was a great suggestion and books are always good gifts. But you could also gather up some stones or sea shells (as long as he doesn't put objects in his mouth), place them in a box or bag, and let him sort through them. My 2-year old is very content when he plays with sticks, leaves, rocks, etc. Simple gifts from nature don't require money or excess packaging!
