Hi Moms

My 'baby' is having her golden birthday next week! I just can't believe she is going to be 7! Anyway I've organized a really cool party for her in a couple weeks but can't decide on what to get - or give her. We are really struggling so the WII she wants more than anyting in the world is not going to happen. Any ideas??? I'm taking her out to dinner on the actual day - for us this is a HUGE deal but it would be nice to have a some things for her to open. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the excellent ideas! Her dad is doing the gold pendant so that is covered. Grandma is doing the breakable pretties. The only other thing she kept mentioning was toys. Ugh I’m sure she will get plenty of those from family and friends. So here is what I came up with…..She has really been into horses lately so I got a brainstorm to give her riding lessons! She has wanted to take lessons for years but the lessons in our area start at 7YO!!! PERFECT! She starts Sunday and will have 4 lessons – for ½ hour each - grand total $105.00. An experience I’m sure she will remember far longer than a new toy! I haven’t said anything to her – its killing me though - and am planning on just telling her we are running errands on Sunday and drive her there.

Since it is a Golden Birthday, I would give her something personable like a gold engraved necklace or something like that. I celebrated my golden birthday when I turned 27 and I got a little glass jewelry box from my girlfriend that had a gold plate on top that was engraved and it said "Happy Golden Birthday N., Love Joette" I still have that jewelry box 15 years later and everytime I go into it I think of my girlfriend and will always cherish it.

Have fun!

Is there anything else that she is really into that you could get her that she has been mentioning? That maybe is cheaper if that is the problem with the WII problem. I know with the encomy issues we cant give our children what they are wanting these days. I know my kids are already saying what they want for christmas and Iam looking at my husband and we are reading eachothers minds knowing we cant afford what we have been able to in the past! Good Luck to you and a big happy birthday to your daughter!!

You could always take her somewhere! The Laurie Berkner Band is coming to chicago in Dec. Tickets go on sale this weekend. Or magic Tree house the musical is in Nov. at Gov. State university. Maybe to Build a Bear or Libby LU. Or What about a gynmastics class. We are trying to geet away from toys that they really don't play with anyway. Or if she likes fancy Nancy, Target has a wonderful doll with dress up clothes for girls and dools and a puppy!

My twin boys are celebrating their GOLDEN 7th Birtday next week too!!! :) They asked for a real GOLDEN retriever, but with three kids, THAT is not going to happen! :) But, they will settle for the Webkinz Golden Retriever...I guess that will satisfy the GOLDEN part. But, for a girl, I would definitely get her a little golden bracelet or necklace, possibly with a charm? I bet you could find something not too expensive at Kohl's. Have fun!!!

Since she really really wants Wii, consider looking into used systems ( may for x-mas ).....I was just at game stop the other day, and I think I heard someone say that they sometimes get used or refurbished systems, that are cheaper than new.

I think what your already doing sounds just wonderful.....take care!
