Good Luck T. and I am glad to know you decided to wait a little while. I decided that too about mine--I am having my 3rd baby in 5 weeks and I am very glad I made the decision to wait about 6 months. I have heard it's fairly easy to recover and I just want to say good luck to you!! :) C.

I had a tubal when my only child was 13 years old. It was a same day surgery, done on a Friday afternoon and I was at work Sunday evening. I had a little pain on that Friday and even less that Saturday. Make sure you walk around the house to expel the gas that is pumped in to your stomach. I am a nurse and knew all about that but forgot and had the nerve to eat refried beans AND have champagne for Sunday brunch. Needless to say I was a tad uncomfortable after that but walking around helped get rid of it. I was nervous too because my surgery was WAY out (time wise) from having a child. My child will be 19 in May and I haven't had any issues since.

I don't have any experience with a tubal, but have you considered asking your husband to do a vasectomy? I know men are weird about that kind of thing, but if you made the appointment and drove him to the urologist, you'll be more likely to get it done. My husband has his on a Friday, laid around on the couch all weekend, and was back to normal activities by Sunday.

Either way, good luck! =)

I had my tubal a year ago. My third and final child was just shy of 2 years old. It was not nearly as bad as I had imagined. After surgery I was sore and was on the pain meds but after day 3 I was completly off the pain meds. The incision site was tender but other than that there was not much that I could not do. My husband went back to work 2 days after the tubal so it was me and the 3 kids and I had to take it easy but did not have to majorly alter my daily routine. Good luck.

I had my tubal done 20 minutes after I had my 4th child. They did it right under my belly button. I went home the next day. I only had a few problems like getting in and out of the bed or chairs. There was some pain but they will give you pain pills. So make sure you have help at least a week after it is done. Don't worry every thing will be fine.

When I had mine done there were two incesions one in the belly button and one in the pelvic area. No heavy lifting for few days, some spotting and then it was over.No big scars or anything. My daughter in law has the Essure and was fine. Just had to take it easy a couple of days. And use a birth control method for 3 months.

i was sore for maybe a week or two at most. but it's nothing that interferes with daily life. at most, i had to take an advil or two after the first few days. i didn't feel completely like myself till about a month after the surgery. that was probably the gas bubble issue. it's really not a huge issue, but a good idea to have help for a few days post surgery. i did mine over 4 years ago, when baby was 6 months old.

I had mine done right after having my daughter. It was a little painful, but it didn't last long. Good luck with yours!

Be sure to ask your doctor *now* about gas pockets after surgery. I had a pocket of gas in my abdomen that "floated" for several months, depending on my movement and position, and it was extremely uncomfortable. It was a complete surprise, and scary because I had no idea what was wrong. My doctor said it was common--but apparently not common enough to warn me beforehand!

Other than that, just be sure to take it easy. It seems like a "nothing" little surgery, but you may be surprised how much impact it will have on your body.

Good luck with everything!
