Tubal Ligation Recovery Time

I’m due with my 3rd child in April and I’m planning on getting a tubal while in the hospital. I’m not getting a C-section (well hopefully not). Was it painful? They are trying to plan on performing the tubal either an hour after delivery or the next day. I have gestational diabetes and they want to avoid infection.

What can I do next?

Mine was done laproscopically over 10 years ago: 2 tiny incisions. One in the belly button, one just in the pubic hair. Outpatient on Friday. Rest and relax for the weekend (with 2 small children at home, yeah right). Husband went to work Monday and I was on my own again. No swelling, no pain. Easy. I would ask about worst case as well though. Not everyone has the best case scenario.

Why get a tubal instead of Essure? (I'm wondering, b/c I'm planning on doing Essure after I have MY third in April). A tubal requires major surgery, while Essure doesn't (Essure also closes the tubes, but no surgery is required because I tiny coil is inserted into the tubes, which then close due to the formation of scar tissue.

I had a tubal during a c-section and I noticed no difference. This was my second c. A friend of mine had a tubal the day after she had a vaginal delivery and she was fine. She mentioned a little cramping later in the day but otherwise she was fine also. She just had 2 little cuts, one at her belly button and one a little higher.

Mine was done while my c-section was going on with my last baby. and I healed from both c-section and tubal ligation at once. So my pain was associated to both proceedures and it took me about a month. Giving birth naturally and then having a ligation seems like a lot but my guess is that you will heal in about 2 weeks.Good luck.

I had it done last summer when my baby was 7 weeks old. My doctor would not do it the same day. She also would not do Essure- there have been reports of chronic pain associated with the coils that they insert. She has had patients come back years later to have them removed. But, I digress. For me, it took about two weeks to feel completely back to normal. I was up and moving and feeling OK within a few days, but as far as feeling comfortable lifting and going about my day to day activities, it was two weeks. Not sure how it would be having it done right after childbirth though.

I wanted to have a tubal when I delivered my daughter but the paperwork wasn't done ahead of time so they wouldn't do it. I had to wait until after my six week check up....ended up being done around 6 months later.

I had the tubal done but they found a cyst so my one my ovaries were removed too. I stayed home the next day and went to work (someone else drove me) the following day. I "should" have stayed home another day but I was leaving the company and had a few things to get done (trying to train the new girl).

Recovery is just a few days. Really just sore not real pain. I came home and functioned. Had no choice, but it was not a problem at all.

I'm not a fan of permanent sterilization, but if you are going to do it, I would do Essure, which my husband was reminded a few weeks ago at an Northwestern Hospital conference has lower risks, especially when it comes to ectopic pregnancies.
