thank you for all your input. I decided to spend just an afternoon to explore what it is like instead of staying for the night since it is expensive.

I don't know where you can find a good deal at the Gaylord but it is a great hotel!! We spent the weekend there for a girlfriends birthday. Everything you need is right there - food, shops, more food, scenery - it's wonderful!!! If you are not taking your son with you, there is The Glass Cactus which is on the Gaylord property and they have shuttles to take you to/from there. It's a club/bar and they have pretty good music, live bands usually. And they serve food as well.

Good luck and have fun!!

It's a great place to visit, but not sure I recommend staying there. Besides there being no "deals, the last time we stayed there, my son got documented bed bug bites all up and down his legs.

DH and I spent our wedding night there before we flew out for our honeymoon the next day. It was ok... not really worth the price. It's a neat place to visit for an afternoon or evening, but I wouldn't stay there overnight again.

We went there late last summer with our two children ages 2 and 5. According to their website at the time, they had a family event that featured roaming mariaches, clowns making balloon animals, face painting, and stuff for the kids. There was NOTHING like that and when I asked the concierge, she simply stated that "they must have gone home early." The food was good but expensive. The hotel is simply gorgeous, but when we took our kids to the pool for our "family weekend" it was wall to wall bodies and like a meat market full of beautiful people, some who were obviously intoxicated and full of pickup lines. NOT a family environment that the website portrayed. The room was nice and had a lovely view of Lake Grapevine. But, once again, it was overshadowed by the fact that our room service order was incorrect despite being pretty expensive. I think it would be a nice place for a wedding reception or to attend a conference, but for the money, I would suggest looking elsewhere. Good Luck in your search.
