We stayed at the hotel San Jose on south congress. It is a boutique hotel. We really liked it. And it is close to downtown. You can walk around the area to eat and antique.
Hi ladies, my 10 year wedding anniversary is coming in a few weeks and I think we'd like to go to Austin for a romantic overnight stay. Can you please recommend hotels and/or places to visit? I know there can be a lot of college kids and that doesn't sound real romantic, but I'm sure we can find somewhere. Other than Austin, any other ideas locally in the DFW area? Thanks in advance.
Thank you all so much for your ideas! I went ahead and reserved a room at the Omni downtown Austin. We definitely plan to go to the Oasis for the sunset dinner. I'm still up for any ideas on what else to do while we're there. We will visit the state capital for sure. Also the suggestions I received outside of Austin sound great too - we'll have to plan more getaways soon:)

i would do Austin in a heartbeat! but yes Plum Lake cabins rule. we stayed there as part of a honeymoon. and grapevine is a fantastic close getaway. they have a special at the gaylord right now. buy one night, get the second night free. check their website for details, then i think you call to get the deal.
Congratulations on your anniversary! Re: your question about Austin as a romantic getaway: have you considered the fact that I-35 to Austin is an awful road on a good day, and that IF there is an accident anywhere on it--or unending road work..you will find yourselves stuck in very UNromantic traffic for hours?? Can you tell that I have been stuck like this almost every time I go that way--LOL. I would suggest taking a road less traveled, so the trip will be pleasant, too. What about going east on 180 towards Natchidoches? It gets quite beautiful, and there are B/B in that neck of the woods, occasional deer crossings, and lots of lovely fruit/veggie stands along the way. Take an empty cooler for local produce, jams, honey, etc. I went that way years ago, and found it to be quite charming and relaxing. Make the trip part of the fun!
I think it's called Lake Austin resort and spa if you like the spa thing. horseshoe bay is also not far from Austin and is nice...I think there's a hyatt there that is wonderful.
We just had an anniversary weekend at the historic Driskoll Hotel, downtown. You can walk to just about anything, including 6th Street if that's your thing, or the Capitol, Texas Museum, restaurants, carriage rides or Zilker Park.
Opt for San Antonio on the River Walk!
OR Granbury @ a B&B on the lake.
The Driskill and The Stephen F. Austin are both old renovated hotels downtown. They are pricey but worth it. They are close to downtown. When we stayed at the SF, we may a reservation in the newer part but, when we arrived we asked if they had any rooms in the older, more quaint section. They weren't too busy and gave us a room for the same price as the newer section. The Driskill has a great bar. the San Jose on Congress is an eclectic hotel and is a fun place to stay. Google it and look at the pictures. Mansion at Judges' Hill is a great place but, not as close to downtown. The Omni is also nice and not as pricey. I agree with the Oasis. It is a 'must go." You want to be there to see the sunset over Lake Travis. It is very affordable and casual. You will want to sit outside. Another restaurant on Lake Austin is Hula Hut. It is a fun casual place to go eat. For night time entertainment downtown there is a fun place called "Pete's Piano Bar." My son attends school there and my daughter graduated from UT also so we have stayed at many of the hotels and eaten at many great places. You will have a great time there and the students are never a problem. There is a nice B&B down in Glen Rose and it is very romantic. You could also google B&B's in Austin. There are a couple I have stayed in that were very nice. There is also a nice resort in Marble Falls that my friends have stayed and they loved it. I don't recall the name but you can google it. Also, Lake Whitney.
We recently went away to Canton, TX...which is about an hour from Colleyville. We stayed at Plum Lake Cabins, which was referred to us by some lovely mamas on here! This was the best getaway we ever experienced. So secluded and quiet. And fishing, laying out, napping, hot tub...so serene. Here is their site:

Wimberly, TX has some beutiful B&B's and lots of things to do - a glass-blowing artist, an olive oil ranch, beautiful square. We stayed at the following for a weekend getaway.

For a beautiful weekend with lots of outdoor activities stay at Rough Creek Lodge in Glen Rose. Very expensive, but so worth it. The food is awsome!

There is a restaurant in Austin called The Oasis. They have outdoor seating on the lake, and on weekends have live bands. Very romatic at sunset, but I'm not sure about the heat right now!
My husband surprised me with a weekend away to the Gaylord Texan and it was absolutely wonderful! They have everything you could want all right there, indoor gardens and winding waterways, restaurants, spa, fitness center, pool, shopping, nightclub, etc. etc.
It was heaven and we didn't have to go far! The room was awesome and we got our own robes, they had flowers and the balcony view was great!Right now they are having an anniversary special that if you buy one night you get the second free!

Lakeway Resort in Austin is nice. My husband went for a romantic getaway two years ago and rented a cabin in Wimberley (a little outside of Austin). It was heavenly, we felt so secluded and peaceful. Our cabin had it's own pool and hot tub. During the day we ventured into Wimberley for lunch and shopping and also hit a couple of the wineries in the area. Now that I've typed this, I'm ready to go again! Hope you guys find the place right for you and have a wonderful anniversary.
I agree with Stacey M.
The Oasis Restaurant is on Lake Travis in Austin.
It is absolutely beautiful and very romantic, especially if you go for dinner at sunset!!!
I took my bf over Memorial Weekend and he still thanks me for taking him.
