I have framed a picture of my Son's first steps and his foot print. I am looking for a short poem that I can include in it as well. I dont have a lot of room left in the frame so it cant be super long. I have googled baby first step poems and keep getting the same 3 or 4 poems that are not really what I am looking for. Does anyone know of any good ones? Even an original would be cool. I am a Christian and it would be nice if it was somewhat religious, but not nessesary. I'd appreciate any sugestions.

What can I do next?

That footprints suggestion was the first thing I thought of!

So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during
the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one
set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most,
you have not been there for me?"

The Lord replied,
"The times when you have
seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you."

I don't know if these are among the ones you have seen, but there are several footprint poems on this site: http://www.squidoo.com/babyfootprintpoem
I liked this one because I think you can easily shorten it or change it to suit your project:
Someday I'll jump through puddles, take a stroll or run a race,
Someday I'll walk across the street, or maybe walk in space,
Someday I'll scale a mountain, or join a ballet corps,
Someday I'll walk a tightrope, or explore the ocean floor,
Someday these feet will do some things that only heaven knows,
But for today they're happy just to wiggle all their toes.

OR this modificationof the footprints poem can also be shortened:
The Lord will always walk with you along life's blessed beach. His footprints there beside
your own, always within reach. Two sets of footprints, side by side, from dawn to setting
sun. Yet there may come a day my child, when you'll see only one. But do not think the
Lord has left you, nothing could be more wrong. It's just that He has picked you up, to
carry you along.

Also, I saw lots of handprint poems that could be modified to "footprint". Anyway, it sounds like a great keepsake. I hope you find what you are looking for.

How about a proverb?

Proverbs 3:5-6

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart;
and lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and
He shall direct thy paths."

I don't know of a peom but you could ask the librarians at your local library. I've always found them to be amazingly versed in so many areas.

Good luck,
