Gift for Son's Baptism

My son, who is just 3 months old, will be baptized this weekend. It is a very special event in our family and people are coming long distances to attend. We are hosting a lunch at our home and we would like to give our baby something to commemorate the day of his christening. I think his godparents will get him something (I think maybe a Bible) and I am not sure what we should get. I did pick out two religous books for him but want something that will be a keepsake. I would appreciate any suggestions! Thank you!!! :-)

What can I do next?

I think books make the BEST keepsake gifts because you can write a special note in the cover..."You Are Special" by Max Lucado is the most awesome terrific wonderful children's book ever and I think it would be especially appropriate for a baptism day. Just my oppinion, good luck!

there's a bonnet you can get at mardells and other similar stores that comes with a poem about how it is made out of a hanky and worn on his head. then he can give it to his bride on her wedding day as something old. My husband received one when he was baptised. Then my mother in law gave it to me at my bridal shower. I carried it with me on my wedding day and we of course still have it. My duaghter's god father then bought one for her that also has a bible. It is neat becuase you can keep it forever. we have bought them for our god children as well and they are okay on a boy.

Go to a craft store and purchase a kit that is used to make molds of babies' hands/feet; I've seen them at Michael's. Buy a cross that's just about the size of his hand or a bit bigger. Have him hold the cross in his hand and dip it in the "goo" (the "goo" is very forgiving even if he wiggles a bit) on the day of the baptism. When you pour in the plaster you'll produce a sweet little keepsake of his hand and the cross will commemorate/specify the event of the baptism. BLESSINGS!

Check Lifeway Book store or the Family Chrisian Book store for their little baby bibles. Have his name put on the outside cover and on the inside write down his info and the date of his baptism. That will suffice. If it's blue, he can read from it on his wedding day. If its white, he can give it to his bride to carry with her bouquet :-)
Keep it simple. Simple things are sometimes the best things to give. If the godparents give him this as a gift, even better. At this age he doesn't need anything, just you continuing to see that he receives his Christian education. That's the best gift that will last forever. Otherwise just take lots of pictures

When my son was baptized, we got so many Bibles (3) and picture frames that say "Baptism" or "Christening". I had to put some away because you don't have room to put it all out. My son did get a "My Baptism" book which was different, and you can always do a decorative cross that is sterling silver or has a favorite bible verse. Or, you could put together a mini scrapbook of the day to commemorate it. Enjoy!

Something that we did to commemorate our son's dedication was to make his handprint and footprint. I got this set from Red Envelope ( http://www.redenvelope.com/re/gifts/product_display/produ... wow that is a long address!)
and we took a picture of him in his dedication outfit, made the handprints and footprints, and then I got a plaque that had his name and "Dedicated to the Lord on September 10, 2006". I guess that was more a gift for me than for our son, but it is a really special memento of that day.

God bless you and your family on this special occasion!

I'm not sure what denomination you are, but as a Catholic, we gave our son a cruxafix(sp) to hang in his room, and a Rosary. My son is now 8 and still has that cross hanging in his room(we have moved MANY times since)and this year he is receiving his First Communion, and is using his Rosary in RelEd class.

Mardel's has a section of gifts for Baptism. They have lots of gifts to choose from.
The only one I know of is off 35 in Lewisville by Academy or near the ToysRUs. I think there is a store in Mesquite too. www.mardel.com

Find a christian gift or book store! You will find 100s of ideas there!

My sis gave my son the most beautiful christian wall art and prayer and I cried when I opened it and read it! It was a wonderful keep-sake and I would do that if nothing else suits your fancy!

Best of luck and congrats!
