First Communion BOY

I have a party on Saturday for a boy receiving his first communion. Any great gift ideas for boys? I would like to give him something to open not money.

Edited to include: There will be many people there and as Michelle mentioned I don't want to waste money on an item that he will get multiples of. Is a toy appropriate?

What can I do next?

Religious stores have all kinds of stuff. You could get a cross to hang on the wall of his room or a medal with his saint on it. There are also sports-related medals and statues if there's a sport he's really into. Another idea is a nice children's bible or a rosary. Books would work too, you could get a book of saints or about mass or something else.

If there is a religious store in your area, that would be the best place to go as they have tons of stuff and I have found the people there so helpful. My favorite place is Morning Star in Lombard, but I don't think that's close to you.

For something to open, there are so many lovely crosses for a child's bedroom. Each of my children have one from their communion. There is a lovely one from Precious moments or if you want something that is not so cute, there is a variety there. Definitely try a "Catholic" store as opposed to a Christian Store because they will have more variety.

Also, a child's bible, NAB version, is very nice and is a keep-sake.

Also, at the two stores that I go to, they have these very inexpensive pendants that can be attached to a silver chain (i.e. .50 - $1.00 per pendant - I had to buy a quantity for an event). For something very inexpensive or to add to a gift - find the "pendant" of his name or middle name, whichever may be a saint's name (I just went through this!) and buy a simple chain from, like Michael's or Hobby Lobby, that would be appropriate for a boy. (i.e. like a ball chain or "dog tag" type chain).

Good luck.

please keep in mind that there are only so many "first communion" items that can be given. consider how many other people will be attending and have the same thought. Sometimes, those gifts just end up collecting dust. consider a gift card to target or something useful.

The book "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein is a great book that we have given as Communion gifts to boys and girls.
