I have always used catholicfamilygifts.com for ideas. You could give him a saint medallion depending on his name (catholicsaintmedals.com). Hope this helps. L.
My nephew is having his first communion soon and I have no clue what to get him as a present. What is an appropriate religious gift for a 7 year old boy?
Thanks everyone for the ideas. I wound up getting him a prayer book for kids along with a book about his saint namesake.

Hubby says he got religious stuff like rosary, small bible, but he says, the best gift is cash. I said, that isn't religious & he said, it was cause it says, In God we trust on it. LOL. had to share....
If he has a biblical name, how about a plaque with the meaning of his name. Here's one website:

I printed out my own for our confirmation kids (we are invited to several parties each year as teachers so I had to come up with something inexpensive) and found inexpensive frames to put them in.
Go on line & look up Autom this company everything Catholic & religious for any age. If your nephew's 1st or middle names are Saints name, get him a statue featuring his namesake. When my son made his first Communion he received a small (6"-8" wide x 4" tall ) carving of the "Last Supper." He's always liked it, he hung it on the wall in his room.
I think all children appreciate a little money in addition to a religious gift.
Christian book stores have a great variety of books for kids. For gifts, we have gotten some of the age appropriate series of action-adventure books. My boys have really enjoyed reading those...and summer is coming up---you'll be giving him something to do!
My nephew just had his First Communion last weekend. He is a sports nut. I gave him a "baseball" piggy bank filled with $$ and a card that reminded thim that now that we recieve Love into our heart, we should GIVE it more...so this is a start to saving for his GIVING to others. I think he liked it! Good luck
When I had my first communion, I recall the boys in my class getting the same types of things I did - rosary, engraved bible, carrying case for the bible, a pendant of his saint (if he has a saint's name)...
You know, I honestly can't remember what we got our Godson for his first communion. I think a Bible but can't remember.
I know this doesn't help but when my husband and I were lucky enough to go to Rome just a few years ago, we did get our Godson a Rosary at Vatican City.
I'm sure he will appreciate whatever you give him!
Good morning D.. It would largely depend on how much you wanted to spend but I have always found that a religious medallion on a chain is appropriate for a young boy. Enjoy the ceremony. I find it truly beautiful.

James Avery has great, affordable gifts.
It is customary to give money or religious articles. Congrats!
My nephew also made his first communion around this age and I got him a St. Christopher's medal. He seemed to like it. Other gifts he was given were a cross for his bedroom wall and a picture frame for his first communion picture. I visited Family Christian Bookstore near Lakeline Mall and they had a variety of items to choose from.
