Hi Ladies -

On September 18, I had a D & C following a miscarriage that did not happen on it's own for 4 weeks. My doctor told us to wait 2 cycles until we tried again, which we completely planned on doing. But, my husband and I practice natural family planning and had not been able to engage in ANY type of marital relations during early pregnancy...so needless to say it had been a long time. We did once, and I got pregnant again before I ever even got my first period. Certainly wasn't ideal timing or planned to be that way, but every pregnancy is a blessing...at least initially!

I know the miscarriage rate is higher when you conceive again that quickly, but my beta numbers were rising appropriately. I went in on Friday and had a transvaginal ultrasound. There was a gestational sac, but nothing inside. From my beta numbers (which were last drawn on Nov. 4), they should have seen at least the yolk sac and maybe even a heartbeat. When I had an ultrasound on Nov. 2, they saw absolutely nothing. But the problem is, is that my HCG numbers are not lining up with what should be seen on the ultrasound - I don' think that is a good thing. I have no cramping or bleeding. So, I am pretty sure it is not a viable pregnancy, but just wonering if anyone has had experience or information to offer?

They redrew my beta on Friday and after the ultrasound kind of indicated things didn't look good, but I don't think they wanted to say too much just yet. We are getting good at figruing things out as this was my 5th pregnancy and I have only had 2 live (and wonderful!) births. I go back on Tuesday and am guessing they will redraw to check levels and maybe even do another ultrasound...

I am really trying to put everything in God's hands and I know I have to trust in him and have faith, but these repeated miscarriages are just so painful.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you ladies for all of your advice and prayers! My ultrasound on 11/13 showed just a gestational sac, but when I went back to the Dr. on 11/17, we saw a heartbeat! No measurements were taken b/c it was my Dr. doing the ultrasound just to see if there were any noticable changes. We are very positive, but still a little nervous b/c my beta numbers are not quite doubling every other day. They are going up by more than 60% every other day..but not quite as quick as the doc would like to see. They were at 17,601 on 11/13...so we'll see! We are happy and optimistic until we have a reason not to be! Thanks again.

Mellisa, I have had 10 pregnancies 4 have been succesful and I am currently pregnant with number 10th pregnancy. The rest have been misscarriages. I had a child than after trying for a year i had miscarriage with a dnc than i had another child than after a year another miscarriage with a dnc. than another child than another miscarriage in which i discharged on my own. Than another child. This time after a year and a half of us trying i miscarried naturally. tahn two months laster got pregnant again and miscarried it with in the first two months. Than I wasn't sure about getting prgnant again because i was so scared on another miscariage and than concieved with in the first month and now i am 14 weeks. I was suppose to wait 2 periods before concieving and we got pregnant before my firast period after my miscarriage. So I hear where you are. This may not be something but theres a reason god is having you go through this. I look at it as a message. If it is a message of patients, if its to say slow down your too active, It will be up to you and your husband to decide if you want to hold off and do what needs to be done for a viable pregnancy. I can't say if this is a misscariage or not god only know I will put you in our prayer and i hope things work out. If theres anything I can do please let me now. Good luck and god bless.

M., I am sorry to hear what you've been through. I have not encountered the same situation, but wanted you to know that I respect you to give it up to God. He is there for you.

For future thought...Has your doctor or have you thought about natural methods to get your hormones in balance?

Many blessings to you and keep the faith.

I have not had repeated miscarriages but I did have a problem with HCG numbers NOT declining. I miscarried Sept '08 and ended up getting pregnant again six weeks later Oct '08 (yes not ideal but life happens). I had my little girl in July and my HCG levels did not go back down. After many pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and blood draws what had happened was tissue from the baby I miscarried had been retained and began to develop with the next pregnancies hormones. When I delivered my daughter I delivered a complete placenta, sac and all but there was tissue still attached from the previous pregnancy that never made it's way out. I'm not sure if this information is helpful or not but life is a great mystery. Strange things happen, sad things happen, but life is still good. I'm sorry for your loss and potential losses. Stay close to your husband and love him, love yourself, love your kids, love god and it will all be ok in the end. Good luck to you.

It is totally possible that things are fine and you just aren't as far along. Also do you know if you have a tilted uterus? That can cause problems seeing things? Yes it's also possible things are going to end bad but I wouldn't give up hope just yet. Check out this web site with women who were all misdiagnosed with a m/c. www.misdiagnosedmiscarriage.com
