Favorite Coffee Mug Stained

I have a favorite coffee mug that I generally drink hot tea out of all day long - 3 to 4 glasses a day at work. I made a cup last week and got called into a meeting and accidently left it at my desk, now there is a big ring at the top. How can I clean this without making my cup unsafe to drink from?

Thanks!!

These two things have never failed me for coffee mugs:

1. soaking in vinegar

2. Mr Clean Magic Eraser. This one cleans almost everything from anything. Seriously.

Put one or two tablets used to clean dentures in the cup and fill with water. Let it sit for 15 - 30 minutes. Stains should disappear.

All of those ideas will work, but I don't think you'll need as much bleach if you go that route. I have a scrubby sponge that works well. Do you have a dishwasher at home? Take it home and wash it there if you do. There is usually bleach in dishwasher detergent.

Use an effervescent tablet, like they use for cleaning dentures. My hubby drinks tea like water, and it will work on all types of glass. use 2 to start. You may need to do it more than once, but it will clean it. just fill with warm water, drop the tablets in, and let it sit. I give it an hour or two.
Best of luck!

There's a cleaner you can get at the grocery store called "Bartender's Helper" or something similar to that. I have a pottery store and recommend it to my customers when they tell me about their cups staining. (Seems to be more noticeable on light color glazes.)

OXY Clean! Mix it w/hot water & let it soak in your cup for a few hours, maybe even overnight. You may need to scrub it here & there to make sure it's getting into the stain. I also clean our coffee maker the same way-use oxy clean in the filter instead of coffee grounds & run the cycle. Just be sure to run the cycle a few times after w/plain water to make sure it's cleaned out. Good luck!

A mild solution of household bleach (about 4-6 tablespoons into the cup, then fill to the top with hot water) should do the trick. Let it set until the ring is gone, then rinse the cup thoroughly until you no longer smell the bleach. If the ring is stubborn, just add a little more bleach. This is how restaurants used to (or still) sanitize dishes, it is safe and very effective. And your cup will now be germ-free!

I always use baking soda, hot water, a little bleach and a scrub brush (like a veggie brush). After scrubbing, I leave it sit for a couple of minutes and then put it in the dishwasher to really cleanse it out. Hope this helps.

Just bring it home one night and put it through the dishwasher. Then take it back to work next day.

Try white vinegar (but do this at home because of the vinegar aroma): Fill the cup to cover the ring with white vinegar -- don't dilute, and it must be white vinegar, not cider or another kind -- and microwave it however long it takes to get the vinegar boiling hot. Let it sit until it cools and scrub very well. Don't use anything abrasive to scrub, as that will scratch the mug, and bacteria can start to form in scratched surfaces. This is a good alternative if you're not wanting to use bleach or other non-food-safe cleaners. It's worked for me on tea stains, and with an English husband and in-laws, I've seen some tea stains!

You can make a paste of baking soda and let that sit in there for a day or so. The not so organic, but works everytime way is to let it sit with dishwasher detergent in it for a few hours. I think that stuff has bleach in it. Not something you want to ingest a lot of, but fine for a once in a long while deep cleaning.
