Eeew... I Can't Beleive She Actually Ate It... Lol.

So last night I decided to experiment a bit when I was making my 1 year old DD's dinner. I had some salmon, and a baggie of mixed veggies (R. potatos, peas, and R. bell peppers) that I decided to try feeding her. She has been having some digestive issues so her pediatrician has had me processing her food more than I normally would. (She can eat whole chunks, but it wasn't digesting well so now I put it in the processor until it's about as thick as a dry salsa...) Well, Salmon doesn't do so well when put in the food processor on it's own (as I found out) so I threw the veggies in with it. When it got done... it looked like something the cat might sick up on the carpet. Seriously nasty. lol. But I hated the idea of wasting it, so I offered my DD a taste and she went NUTS and absolutely loved it!! So I let her eat that, and froze the leftovers for later. (There is enough for at least another 3-4 servings...)

One thing I feed her that will make my Hubby and my MIL gag is banana mixed with avacado. She really really likes banana, not such a fan of avacado, so I mixed them together and she liked it. So heck, I'll feed it to her! lol.

What are some screwy combinations your kids will eat, that just make you gag thinking of it?

What can I do next?

Well, the other night my son decided he needed to dip a french fry into tartar sauce, which I guess is not that weird of a flavor combo, but still not the condiment most would choose :)

LOL! My FB post a couple days ago was that I just watched "my 18 month old dip his apples in tartar sauce....and then go back for seconds"! Ewww is right.

Mine are all about experimenting, especially with dipping sauces. My little guy even dipped his PB&J in ranch and went back for more--then again Ranch is fabulous on everything in their minds :)

One time I made a girl I nanny a peanut butter sandwich. She told me she wanted grapes, so I cut a handful of grapes in half and put those on the plate with her sandwich. She looked at me as if I was the crazy one, and put the grapes on top of the sandwich and ate it like that!

One thing that I eat, that freaks my family out, is ham and banana sandwich... Mmm, that sounds good right now! :)

Yesterday I made a grilled cheese sandwich for my grand daughter. It was too hot for her so I pulled it apart to cool the cheese. She saw me put it back together and the next thing I knew, she had opened it back up, and scooped her apple sauce into it, put the breads back together and ate it. Dripping apple sauce the whole time. I guess it was equivalent to sliced cheese on apple pie which some say is common. But really? INSIDE a grilled cheese sandwich? She also has dipped her fish sticks and chicken strips into yogurt... strawberry, or lemon yogurt..weird.(o:

I put ketchup on BBQ sandwiches, green beans and French bread and I make ketchup and cheese sandwiches for myself. I also have a thing for burning my food on purpose because I like it that way (my family says I nuke my food). As a kid, I would eat butter without anything else and I also like eating ketchup without anything else. Chips dipped in ketchup are good, too.

Dad dips chips in peanut butter and his favorite sandwich is peanut butter and mustard. Mom likes chips dipped in spaghetti or actually on her burgers. Grandpa once made horse radish ice cream. The kids like green eggs and ham (my sister made this for them). The adults in this family have stranger tastes than the kids, I think.

LOL! Sounds like you picked the perfect time to blend her food. I'll give her another year or so before the picky eater stage kicks in. I'm sure the flavor of the salmon paired with the veggie/potato mix was pretty yummy but, since I'm a visual eater as well, if something looks like cat food, it ain't passing these lips!!!

My kids are pretty mainstream in their tastes but I did want to mention to you that your banana/avocado puree reminded me that there is a raw dairy-free chocolate pudding that you can make using avocado. Since avocado is so creamy and has a mild flavor, I think that you can mask the flavor pretty well with other stronger flavored foods like banana and cocoa.

Thanks for the laugh! Kids are always a great source of amusement, don't you think. =D

first of all LoL

second mine do that dipping in milk as well.

other than that mine are not of the curious nature. My son will smell the first food and then just touch it to his lips and then reject. So bravo on getting your little one to eat all of those wonderful things!!!

About a month ago my son started eating his gluten-free Ohs with milk. One morning he went into the fridge for the shaker parmesan cheese and requested that be added to his cereal. He had 2 servings. Gross!

there was a time when my daughter likes to dip potato chips and french fries in her milk. EWW!

As a baby she was a pretty good eater. at around 9 months if we had dinner most of the time we would just put a portion of whatever we adults were eating in the food processor before we seasoned is and although it wasn't always quite as yummy to look at all "mushed up"- she liked it.

For me, I never fed her regular jarred baby food. There are only a couple flavors of jarred food that I think are palatable, and I promised that I would not feed my kids anything I am not willing to eat myself. (Yes they eat foods I don't particularly "like"- but nothing that I absolutely think is vile).

Now my daughter loves butter... if I am not careful she will go after the butter straight out of the dish. She hates butter "on" anything... but loves it by itself- ewww.

I always "hide" veggies in foods that I know she loves. My daughter will eat vegetables... but she would never ask for them (except carrots because bunnies eat them, and "little trees" which are broccoli). When your daughter gets better at digesting more solid foods, try adding frozen or fresh vegetables into kid favorites like Mac n' Cheese, spaghetti, and tuna fish sandwiches (finely diced). Salsa is a winner for my daughter with tortilla chips (get low salt ones), and closer to age 2 she started eating foods because of neat "facts" or "stories" about them.

hehehe- but the potato chips in milk.... gag!

My 2 year old will dip anything into ranch.
One day I was eating some chips and ranch dip, her dad decided to give her a cookie. She came over to show me (it was such a treat for her and she was sooo excited she got one). then PLOP...that cookie was swimming around in my dip! Ewwwwwwww.
She dipped fruit, mac & cheese, pancakes..all sorts of weird things. I like ranch, but not like she does.

My 2 yr old has to have ketchup with everything. One night we were eating dinner with nothing that would be good with ketchup but she wanted it. So we put some on her plate and started dipping her green beans in the ketchup. She said mmmm good ketchup! Last night my 7 yr old said the only good thing on her plate was the vegatables, which were bamboo shoots, green beans, carrots and brocoli. Which i gag down!

My son (he's 6) loves his new creation: a ketchup and cheese sandwich. I refuse to try it, but he loves it. My daughter (she's 8) likes to dip Goldfish crackers in applesauce. She also likes A-1 steak sauce mixed in rice. No actual steak (she refuses to eat meat except for hot dogs), but she loves the steak sauce with rice. Kids are so funny sometimes....
