I wouldn't want to try this, but my daughter (5) likes to spread ketchup and caramel on her nuggets from McD.
I love potato chips for dipping in my ice cream!!
This is really just for fun on a Friday, but heres the story. My kids asked me to put syrup on their grilled cheese (they are 3 and 6). I told them no way, they then told me that their daycare lady (whom we adore) puts it on them. I said they were being silly, thats crazy! So I asked and sure enough she does! So GROSS, right? Oh was I wrong. I tried it! ITS TO DIE FOR!!!! Really, its the strangest most obsurd combo I have ever heard of but sooooo flippin good! And, no I am not pregnant! :)
I know what you are thinking, gross, unnessesary, rediculous....Oh, but don't you just want to try it too?
So, anyone out there have other weird but wonderful combos for me to try???
Thanks for all the ideas. A lot of ideas came through that are staples in our house (i guess we are just weird in general): Must have's include:
French Fries dipped in Milk shakes-YES
Katcup on grilled cheese-YES (if there is no tomato soup in the house).
Popcorn with M&Ms-YES YES YES
Chips on tuna fish sandwich-YES
Lol, these are all thinks I grew up eating, never thought of them as weird. :)

I love potato chips for dipping in my ice cream!!
savory pancakes (garlic powder, chili powder, cumin, minced onion (optional), sausage or bacon and cheddar cheese) with regular old pancake syrup. We make these for dinner sometimes. Or something we just had the other day was
chorizo hash (chorizo, diced potatoes, onions) sandwiched between two pancakes and smothered in country gravy (I lived in the south for 15 years and country gravy and sweet tea are two things I will eat til the day I die). YUM!!
And for a snack
Popcorn made on the stove-top using rosemary infused olive oil. Using fresh rosemary is the best. Make the oil ahead of time by useing one or two sprigs per cup of olive oil (I heat it in the microwave to speed up the process) Use only about 1/4 to 1/3 cup of oil per 3/4 cup kernels. Sprinkle with salt immediately after popping. Scrumptious!
I love ketchup on my grilled cheese. I have since I was a kid and still eat it that way. My 5 year old loves PB & Syrup sandwiches. At first, I thought she was crazy for wanting it, but syrup is sweet just like jelly, so why not? :)
Scoop of vanilla ice cream in tomato soup. Makes it creamy and cools it off. Mmmm.
"Goober burger" - grilled hamburger with peanut butter and mayo spread on the bun!
the only way my son, my brother and myself eat spaghetti is to pour applesauce over the mixture and mix it all together. my brother started me on this when we were kids and i still eat it that way. when i was pregnant people laughed at me and said i was eat a weird craving......no craving just a way to make a plate of good spaghetti better!!!
I remember one of our first babysitters made grape jelly and mayo sandwiches and made an entire loaf of them and put them in the freezer and pulled them out as needed...disgusting!
I've also seen pepper on oatmeal and mayo on COLD ears of corn on the cob.
These make my cottage cheese and French dressing look SANE!
Great pairings like chocolate covered pretzles and potato chips are awesome. My husband and I always make chocolate things for Christmas and we were making this stuff 25 years ago, WAY before anybody else.
I always eat oatmeal b/c I know how healthy it is, but I was getting so bored of it. Then I heard to put peanut butter (or almond butter or any nut butter) in my oatmeal (1-2 TBSP), and oh my God, it is to die for!!!!! So, every day for lunch I put 1 TBSP peanut butter, a banana, 1 TBSP cocoa (not hot cocoa, but unsweetened cocoa that you find in the baking aisle - it is very healthy and has lots of antioxidants), and some cinnamon in my oatmeal and it is so delicious, I forget I'm eating oatmeal!
I second what BabyDoos mama said about dipping french fries in a milkshake. I used to do that when I was a teenager. It is the perfect sweet/salty combo - yummy!!
I was raised putting peanut butter on my waffles, pancakes and french toast - my husband turns his nose up at it - but MAN!!! I LOVE IT!!!!
I'm a peanut butter fiend!! :)
My son puts KETCHUP ON HIS MAC & CHEESE!!!!
I think i'll try it - can you tell me if you put it on like butter (the inside) or the outside and eat it like a pancake?
I don't have a wierd combo for you to try, unless you decide you want to, but this reminded me of one I insisted on trying as a little child. I had been served waffles for breakfast and decided that since ketchup tasted so good on so many things that was exactly what I had to have on my waffles that day. My parents both did their best to convince me that I wouldn't like it, but to no avail. Finally the relented and let me put ketchup on my waffles. Sure enough, the first taste I took I realized they were right about me not liking that combination. But, they insisted that I couldn't waste good food and must finish eating the waffles. I don't know how long I sat there, crying and trying to get out of paying for my mistake, but I finally managed to choke the waffles down, ketchup and all. I know a lot of parents today would say that it was mean of my parents to force me to eat those waffles, but it didn't damage me, and taught me to think a little more before insisting on other wierd food combinations. It also taught me to be more willing to listen to the wisdom of my mother and father.
On second thought, maybe I do have a suggestion for something that may sound wierd, but tastes good, and it's related to grilled cheese sandwiches. Most people I know spread a little butter or margarine on the outside of the bread when grilling the sandwiches. I do that too. But for a little change in the taste, try spreading them with mayonnaise instead.
peanut butter and honey sandwiches are awesome...
my kids (3.5 & 4.5) love to dip anything in their ketchup or any salad dressing, especially fruit
bacon with syrup
home fries in gravy
thanks for the fun post!
We made "metchup" for our fries- equal parts of ketchup and mustard mixed together.
Definetly trying the grilled cheese and syrup for lunch tomorrow! What a fun post!
I don't think I would like that since I am a grilled cheese purest. However, I do like Monte Cristo sandwiches which often have powdered sugar and raspberry ham. Same idea, savory and sweet.
When I was a teen I used to babysit these two girls (they were maybe 7 and 9 or 8 and 10) the 3 of us came up with this gross concoction of Cheese nibs and a drop of chocolate milk syrup. LOL so gross
I also used to go to burger king and get a milkshake (chocolate or vanilla) and a fry and I would dip the fries in my milkshake. This one is good
Neither of these were products of pregnancy
That is so strange, but have to say I will probably try it. I like real turkey on a bagel with strawberry cream cheese. Amazing. Or peanut butter on my carrots too, my hubby thinks I'm weird. Probably more but none that come to mind just yet.
More: Salt on my watermelon, yummy! And Chili cheese fritos in a ham sandwich.
I don't like syrup, but whatever floats your boat. I personally like a bit of toasted deli ham tucked inside my grilled cheese.
I love plain cream cheese spread on bread with sliced up green olives stuffed with pimento and then closed over in a sandwich. I also love cream cheese rolled up in salami slices.
I think I'll pass. but I do love french vanilla ice cream on waffles...and so do my husband and son now! Yummy.
i put agave nectar on my kids grilled cheese all the time (great with tomatos too!), yeah it rocks. Other good combos to try, chips in Worcestershire sauce, and lemon pepper on popcorn
french fries are really good when dipped in ice cream too, but those are very unhealthy and wouldnt recommend
my mom used to make a barbeque sauce out of coca cola
My husband swears that grape jelly is good on sausage, i dont eat meat but i will try it on my vegan "no" sauge soon
I saw a recipe for cricket cookies on Facebook recently. No kidding! You put the crickets in the fridge to slow them down. Then, you put them onto the cookies and bake. UGH! lol!
The best fry/ice cream combo I have found is Dairy Queen. Their fries with an Oreo blizzard.....yum!
I also eat bologna, cheese, BBQ chips, and ketchup sandwiches. So good! I also like ketchup and rice, ketchup and mashed potatoes, ketchup and grilled cheese....I really love my ketchup! Bacon dipped in syrup is really good too. And I liked all of these things before I was pregnant, even though I can't remember when I started doing all of them.
My favorite oddity is a peanut butter and syrup sandwich- YUM YUM YUM. I have turned all my kids onto it also. Husband will not try it! Im going to try this on my next grilled cheese :)
i heard peanut butter and pickles but i haven't been brave enough to try it!
Sounds good to me !! When I was pregnant, I craved Fritos dipped in cake frosting (the kind you buy in the store). I've since had my daughter, but the Fritos in frosting stil taste good 8-)
I haven't had this is so long...but it is so good!
Toasted bagel with butter and plain cream cheese, dipped in duck sauce (the Chinese sauce) oh my....mmmmmm
I am not sure it was wonderful, but it was weird...
I've been told that once when I was very little, after the whole household was sick, and my Mom still was, my father out of frustration and desperation asked what I wanted to eat and apparently I responded that I wanted PB and tuna fish! Yes, peanut butter and tuna fish. The story goes that I actually ate it! And apparently it stayed down. LOL.

Sounds like a Monte Cristo sandwich to me! Yum.
Mmm--let's see--try a peanut butter sandwich, no jelly on toast --I like the natural p.b. and add...bread and butter pickles! The spicy sweet pickles are tasty on them too:)
We were out to dinner one night at Bob Evans. My hubby ordered pancakes, my daughter had french fries. She asked if she could dip her fry into his syrup. She liked it so my hubby tried it....they both now dip fries in syrup...
Here's a strange one my son's preschool introduced us to that he absolutely loves.
scrambled egg sandwich drizzled with honey and banana slices
Here's some of my favorite's!! :)
carrots dipped in yellow mustard
cheerios with chocolate milk
vanilla yogurt on a whole wheat waffle
syrup on eggs
ketchup and mac n cheese
Interesting combinations. I agree with french fries and chocolate shakes, yummy. A friend of mine will eat popcorn and m&m's together. Its a sweet and salty thing.
When I was younger I would eat the box mash potatoes and put ranch on one half and BBQ sauce on the other half.
Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies they are amazingly good. You can Google the recipe. There are a few other weird bacon combinations I haven't tried, but those I know who love bacon, really like it.
A bit of sugar sprinkled onto a crisp iceberg lettuce leaf. Surprisingly yummy!
OMG my daughter likes to dip very strange things together. My mom asked me one day when I told her that she was dipping Cheetos into vanilla yogurt, if I had tried it. I hadn't but when I did... YUCK. Some kids are strange.
I do like Grilled Cheese with ranch though. Or the fast food hashborwns/french fries with mayo instead of Ketchup.
Have fun with it.
ketchup and watermelon. my little sister combo..which all three of my kids picked up on their own...asking for it out of no where.
Your combo sounds much much better. i never could bring myself to try the watermelon/ketchup. If it is asked for again this summer i may have to try it to see what all the fuss is about...
I like sour cream and onion chips on a tuna fish sandwhich
or Corn and Mashed potatoes mixed.... that is my extent of experiment BUT
my daughter picked up from Daycare when you she was 2 and still does it now (almost 8)
A slice of Cheese pizza with applesauce on top and corn.....
CRAZY! and she does the ice cream and french fry combo too
I'll have to try that. It sounds revolting but one never knows until it's tried. I eat my eggs with syrup. I learned that growing up because my grandmother would put our eggs on top of our pancakes and then pour the syrup on. It doesn't work with all eggs. The eggs have to be cooked perfectly on low heat, not burned or overcooked (as in no brown spots or crispy bits and the yolks are just starting to set) or it doesn't taste good. It's a good thing my grandmother drummed it into my head how to produce the perfect fried egg. :D
My husband swears by dipping his dill pickles in ketchup. (Gag) I suppose it makes a sort of weird sense since they're paired together on burgers. And yet the idea of that much salt in one spot just makes me cringe. I suppose it's a good thing I make my own ketchup so there's much less salt. I still remember the first time he sat down with a big pile of hamburger chips and a massive glop of ketchup beside it. Ugh
My sister loves ketchup on her mac & cheese.
I've been told the weirdest thing I do is putting chips on my sandwiches. I'll construct a regular sandwich; mustard, mayo, lettuce, cheese (maybe tomato), sprouts, a couple of slices of meat, etc. Then, just before the top slice of bread I'll lay out several potato chips of the current flavor (I have tried other chips too but still prefer the potato chip. I do admit that I'm a potato chip snob and don't buy Lays, etc. I only buy brands such as Kettle Classics, Dirty Potato Chips, or Kettle Brand) in a single layer. I'll then finish building the sandwich, squish it all together and call it good. I don't recall when, where, or why I first started doing this but it's been at least 15 years.
We eat peanut butter on our pancakes, waffles and french toast with syrup. Once you've tried it you'll never go to butter again. :) I have since taught my Grandson to eat them this way also. Ymmmmmmm
popcorn and tomatoe juice! an you have to take a sip of the juice when you have a mouthful of popcorn to get the full effect. i also dip my fries in ranch dressing. when i wa a vegatarian i use to love peanut butter and fresh spinach sandwiches (I think it was an iron thing)
peanut butter with sharp cheddar cheese and apple slices
Ketchup on pancakes.... it is delish. I tried it when i was 7, my mom ordered me pancakes and i didnt want them so to gross her out i poured half the bottle of ketchup all over my pancakes... she was grossed out and she made me eat them and i loved it. I still eat them this way ( and im in my 30's)
Okay, weird but good...ham and peanut butter sandwiches. On the ham theme, I also like white bread, butter and ham. My grand mother used to make me those every day for lunch and they're yummy! I also like savory cream cheese on sweet bagels like garden vegetable and cinnamon raisin bagel. Grilled cheese and syrup, never tried it, but it sounds up my alley!
