Dry Food - No Teeth ?? & Ok to Skip Meats?

My 8 mo. old does not have teeth yet but I read how this is the age to introduce things like toast, cherios, saltine crackers, etc. What types of table food should I let her try to gum right now?

I also began feeding her stage 1 meats at ~4.5 months, just Turkey and chicken either 1-2 tbsp with vegie or fruit or the entree mixes (come in stage2) with either of these in it, once per day usually for dinner. She has cereal and vegie or fruit for breakfast and lunch. I found the beef did not agree with her at ~6.5 months and have not tried again yet. But, someone told me I am probably giving her too much meat and should probably not be giving her meat at all yet. This person said she only gave her kids veggies and fruit til they were much older (over 1yr). Looking for a general consensus on to feed meat or not to feed meat to my 8 mo old and how often. The subject came up because my daughter is very gassy and does not sleep through the night yet (waking with gas sometimes-hungry other times-and just wanting comfort the rest of the times) but I just looked at as my daughter has always been very gassy-I believe she was tooting up a storm before she even came out of my belly. She has learned to handle it much better and most often now smiles and laughs when she hears herself toot. It's really quite cute to see her do it.

What can I do next?

its really a parents and babys preference on what foods they eat. for myself and my 7.5 month old son he eats the following:
#2 fruit for breakfast
milk sippy
#2 veggie for lunch
juice sippy
milk sippy
#2 meat with #1 veggie or half a #2 or #2 meal
milk sippy
milk sippy for bed

I have also just recently started to introduce the #3 foods but some of the meals have pieces of pasta that he isnt quite ready for. I would be careful with the cherios and crackers bc they are small and can gag on them. I have tried the biter biscuits and he likes to chew on them for awhile. They practically dissolve and dont break off. (they are very messy and would probably need a bath afterwards) My milk sippys are 4-6oz of formula. I hope this helps somewhat but every baby is completely different and you will figure out whats best for you and your baby.

It is perfectly fine to start giving her cheerios and crackers and such. Her saliva will help break down the foods and baby's have really strong gums to help grind it. It also helps when it comes to teething. As far as baby foods, neither of my kids ate the meats. They loved fruit, were a little picky about their veggies but ate no meat until they started eating true solids. Your daughter is perfectly normal and will be just fine.

You don't need to do baby foods at all. At eight months, I was just giving my son small portions of what we were eating as long as it was soft enough.

Solids making a baby sleep through the night is a myth. At eight months it's completely normal for her not to be sleeping at night. Some kids just have a harder time with sleeping while others take to it much better. There's really not much you can do about it. My three year old still has night wakings, my two month old can go six or seven hours.

Feeding your baby is so personal. Whatever you're doing is just fine. All moms have the desire to feed their little ones. Whatever your instincts are; follow them. Babies will eat a variety of foods in all sorts of different orders. Healthy kids thrive! Of course babies with reflux, allergies and such need to be tended to and fed with extra care. Jar food is fine. Meats are great if you can get your kid to eat it! Using only table food is okay too! Plenty of babies without teeth eat crackers and stuff. Babies in India eat curry! Japanese babies eat seaweed and cooked fish. Enjoy feeding your little one and relax. Take all this advice and throw it out the window. Do what you like!!!!

My 11 month old has been eating Earth's Best turkey and chicken meals since she was 7 months, but these jars have very little meat in them. They are mostly sweet potatoes, apples, etc. mixed with a little meat. She now likes bits of chicken cut up. The Weston A. Price Foundation has great advice for feeding babies and kids. I learned that turkey and lamb are easier for babies to tolerate than beef and chicken. You should avoid wheat products (including some of those biter biscuits, baby puffs, bread and pasta) because of the gluten. Overdoing grains in general is not a good idea as babies don't have enough digestive enzymes (amylase) to process them. You can try egg yolks (not whites) at an early age. Go to:
