Dry Eye

Does anyone have dry eye? I was recently diagnosed with this and am having headaches on the left side which is my drier eye (left). I was also diagnosed with severe allergies so now I'm on singulair and rhinocort. Did anyone else have side effects of further eye drying with singulair? Any home treatments than warm compress and artificial tears, humidifier etc that may help. I'm also taking flaxseed oil. How long does it take to work and is there anything I can do about the headaches?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I eventually got plugs but the right one came out and gave me a lot of trouble. I am taking flaxseed oil and having lots of fish so both are helping. I hardly put eye drops now. :)

I feel your pain!

I have dry eyes - OUCH! I have found incredible relief with Resistasis. This is a prescription eye drop that you use twice daily. With the exception of being placed near a fan (very painful for the dry eye crew), - I don't feel any discomfort at all. I have been on this for about two years, and have not had any side effects. You might want to check with an ophthalmologist. I do not have allergies, so I do not know if there are any complications by using your current medications and the Resistasis.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I know someone who has had dry eye for over 20 years. That person has been using eye drops (all kinds) for that same amt of time. The eye drops haven't helped much except for to make his eyes resistant to their effects.

Go to Sprouts, Abundant Life or Whole Foods and talk to someone their about a natural way of helping you. I just heard a friend explain that she's taking something like "ALJ" plus Rosehip alcohol for her allergies...NOT SURE so ask someone.

Headaches, well if they're not connected to your dry eye I would make a list of the foods I eat every day for about a week and also log headache occurrences. Maybe it's a food that's causing them? I get headaches after having too much dairy & sugary foods.

Good luck

Hi. I was recently at my eye exam and told my doctor that my eyes were really dry. He had me try a sample of Refresh Gel Eye drop for moderate to severe dryness. I went out and bought some. It shouldn't be used with contacts, but can be used at night which is usually when most dryness occurs. You can buy it at any grocery store or pharmacy.

Good luck

I've just been diagnosed w/dry eye too and I'm trying to wear contact lenses. Dr says my tears dissolve too quickly which means they are not oily enough to adequately lubricate my eye. Next week I'm going in for temporary punctal plugs to see if they help. If it helps I'll get permanent punctal plugs. You have a tear duct in the inner corner of your eye called the punctal duct. By plugging this duct it prevents your tears from draining into this duct and keeps them to lubricate your eye thus preventing dry eye. So, maybe ask your eye dr about punctal plugs. I'll let you know how it works for me.

Also, a question off the subject...how do you get the "a little about me" part to show up in your responses?

I took Primrose Oil and when that bottle ran out I switched to Borage Oil. After that bottle was almost finished I dreadedly had to quit taking the Borage Oil because I was going to have surgery and the doctor said to get off of everything. To my wonderful amazement, I realized that I didn't need to take anymore Primrose or Borage Oil. Somehow, I was healed. Now, as long as I drink 64 oz. of water every day I am dry eye free. I got this recommendation from a sales associate at Whole Foods, and I am forever grateful. I hope it works for you too. I am off Restasis and all the other eye drops that didn't or barely worked. I have to thank God for healing me too. I hope this helps.
