Hello Everyone...

I am the lucky mother of a beautiful 2 year old little girl, who for the past 6 months have been experiencing pain in her eyes. She was seen by an Opthamology Specialist, who first said it was "allergies", now after months of dealing with "allergies" and the Allergy drops NOW having no effect and hearing my Baby CRY all this weekend yelling that she has "owees" in her eyes, we went back and they did more tests. She apparently has "DRY CORNEAS". We were referred to an CORNEA SPECIALIST and are scheduled to see him next month. Meanwhile we have to place drops in her eyes to keep the eye lubricated. FYI - since she was born, to date, has not developed tears... Has anyone else had to deal with this and if so, how did you soothe the irritation or make it go away.

What can I do next?

yes, who were you refered to? i like Steinart at UCI. my son will have transplant in a few yrs (when he is old enough to "hopefully" not reject them). the drops work, but, what's even better-eye lubricant. it looks like neosporin-but, it is for eyes-and it is great at night before they go to bed. goo luck

this sounds like she may need her tear ducts opened, I have heard of that but never dealt with it. I am so sorry, it is so hard to watch our little ones struggle. Best thing to do is what you are doing, and don't get upset. When mom's upset and worried it is much harder on the child than the problem is that may exist. Make it a game like watering a flower, you are going to water her eyes to make them more blue etc. Or to make her eyelashes grow faster. Smiling is ever so reassuring to our babies, and she will feel so loved. The doctors will take care of the problem...good luck and happy watering!

L.,

I had lasik eye surgery and had extremely dry eyes. In addition to putting plugs in the tear ducks to try to keep any moisture in, I started taking flaxseed - I would use already milled for a small one. It's easily added to oatmeal or many types of food - applesauce, oatmeal, mac & cheese, etc. It doesn't change the flavor much. The main benefit has been a huge change from extreme dry eyes that felt like sandpaper was in them to rarely noticing the dry eyes. You can google and find out the many benefits. Several people I know are taking it for lower cholesterol (it's similar to an organic substitute for fatty omega fish oils), and no one has mentioned any side effects. Check with your pediatrician and make sure it's ok for a two year old, but my child is younger and she's had it in a smoothie.

Ask her Doctor if she is allowed to have " Natural tears" They almost work too well. It can be found at most pharmacies. Lot's And Lots of fluids like gatoraide because of it hydrating properties and Vitamin Water. Of course mineral water.

Sounds like she might have clogged tear ducts that won't allow her tears to form which also helps lubricate the eyes...

Keep up the specialist visits and also insist on some results.
