I am watching ABC News right now and they are doing a report on Yaz and some possibly dangerous side-effects associated with it. The FDA is launching an investigation right now.

Massive blood clots
Coma
Blindness
Maybe even death

What can I do next?

I was on it for a little while after my husband got back from Korea. I was a little confused as to why I got put on THAT med since all the ads say it treats PMDD (I don't have it) and isn't for regular ol' PMS. I asked my friend about it (she's a PA) and she said that basically it just got to be a popular brand. (This was over a year ago.) Now I'm glad I was only on it for a few months, though!

All birth control pills have those possible side effects. Yaz I suppose just has a higher rate.

I use Yaz over other birth controls because I have PMDD, and it had seemed to help. I haven't been on it in over a year when we went off the pill to get pregnant, but I planned on taking it when I was done nursing (baby due very soon). I asked my doctor a while back about some of the issues I'd heard about Yaz and she told me (at the time) that smoking greatly increases your chances of experiencing these symptoms and that very few cases were found. Again, that was quite a while ago, and maybe there is new evidence or research done. She's a very up-to-date and knowledgeable doctor, so I trust her. But I'll have to talk to her about it when the time comes for me to resume my birth control since much could have changed since I last asked her. I'll check into the story you're referring to. Thanks for sharing.

I was prescribed Yaz by my doctor three years ago for the treatment of PMDD. I didn't even finish my first packet of it. I took it for two weeks, then stopped. I had terrible headaches, my heart was racing, and I felt dizzy all the time. I would never use it again.

I use Yaz. I discussed new BC options at my last appt in September because I'm turning 35 and thought I was too old for it. My doc reassured me that I was safe still since I didn't smoke, drink or am overweight. I also exercise and eat healthy. I still would like to be on something different but I do suffer with PMDD and it does help me with it.
