Disneyworld Summer

We are thinking of going to Disneyworld this summer, but I keep having visions of intense heat and LONG lines. We've been to Disneyland in CALI, and it was great (perfect weather and reasonable crowds but not overwhelming at all). We can't afford Cali this year... FL is a closer, cheaper plane ride. If you've been to Disneyworld in summer, tell me about it! Thanks.

It is hot, and there are long lines, but since you're from Texas, the heat shouldn't be unbearable for you. You can also take advantage of some of the EZ pass offers that give you an advantage for getting on certain rides. Disneyworld also has some fantastic waterparks, so a day or two spent at some of those would be perfect! There are also some beautiful natural springs and springfed rivers near Orlando where you can snorkel and tube -and they're COLD! Beaches are only 60-90 minutes away.

Hey, if you are still looking for a place to stay, you should check out my website - www.BrackTravel.com - we have access to condos and villas all over the world. You can find some really good deals in the Orlando area.

And if you sign up as a preferred customer, you get lots of perks - it is free to do - just like getting frequent flyer miles. :-)

When I think WDW in the summer, I think crowds, extreme heat, and lots of crying children and screaming parents. Yes, screaming. I have seen more instances of parent-child melt downs at WDW than I see in a whole year anywhere else. I don't know if it's the heat, dehydration, or what - but it doesn't seem to bring out the best in people.

Supposedly Orlando sits slightly below sea level, so you get a "bowl effect" in the summer where the heat and humidity just hover endlessly - except for the requisite afternoon monsoon (which hits like clock work, typically when you're in the middle of a park with no quick escape route).

I'm spoiled because we live relatively close and can go in the off-season.

If you really want to go please think about this book: http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disney-World-Guide... . My sister and I swear by it - will give you lots of great ideas and tips on how to stay one step ahead of the crowds and how to hang on to your sanity.

I also recommend the water parks - that's what we tend to do in the summer. Either get there 20 minutes before opening, or go late in the afternoon right after a storm.

Good luck and have a great time if you go. You can still pull off a fun trip with some advance intel. :)

Hi!!
We went last July and it was hot and long lines but not as bad as we thought it would be...but we made sure to drink lots and lots of water and lots of sunscreen cause it was worse at certain times of the day. But we went again this year in April and there were NO lines and weather was PERFECT!! So we have decided that spring time is the best time to go...Fall may be good too, but also hurricane season...so I think we will stick to going between end of March to beginning of May...Anyways good luck!! You will have fun no matter what, it is AWESOME there!! We love it and plan to go once a year or every other year :)

That's summer time at Disney World . . . intense heat and long lines. We went in June and we went in November. In November we stood in line for Space mountain almost 5 minutes. We decided to go on it again. We walked off the ride and walked to the exit. We walked in the entrance and walked straight up and got on the ride again. We never stopped walking. No wait at all. They have shorter hours, but the weather was wonderful. The longest line was about 10 minutes. My kid's school had a three day teacher's conference and my kids had the "B. flue" for the other two days. We spent a week there and had a blast. If you have a choice, go in the off season. If the school questions you, tell them the kids weren't feeling up to par, especially if you go to a miniture golf course. ;-) Or tell them the kids were under the weather. :-D

We went in June and the heat and humidity were horrible. It was nice in the morning. The temperature climbed to very hot in the afternoon when we were then treated to a short rain (everyday). Afterward, the sun came out again and the rain evaporated and drove the humidity up to oppressive.

The lines were no shorter than 30 to 45 minutes long, except to go to the bathroom. The lines for the most popular rides were over an hour. If you go in the summer, be sure to have an early start to the day. Be there when they open the gates. That way you can get on one and probably two rides before the crowd arrives and the lines become horrible. Save the inside shows for the 1 pm to 5 pm time frame when the heat is at its worst or go back to your hotel and have lunch and a nap.

Good luck. Hope you have lots of fun!

Well, Disneyworld always has long lines, but summer includes intense heat - not quite as hot as San Antonio and more humid - and lots of thunderstorms. Look at average weather for Orlando for the time you plan to visit.

Good luck!
