has anyone ever been to both in the summer? if you could only go over the summer, which one would you pick? is the weather around disney land a little less warm/humid than in FL? How about the crowds? Don't answer based on what parks/attractions are better or have more. I just really want to know based on weather and crowds please. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the responses! We've actually been to Disney World a decent amount of times. My older son has been three times, although he probably only remembers one of those trips. And my younger one has gone once. We've always managed to go in cooler months, like October or Feb., etc. I have some family getting married in LA next summer, and was thinking we could do a Disney Land trip in conjunction with the wedding if we are travelign out there anyway. But I wanted to make sure the summer wasn't miserably hot and the crowds weren't too bad. i've always been told to stay away from Disney World in the summer. Just wanted to make sure that wasn't true for Land as well. Thanks again!

As far as weather goes, DEFINITELY go to Disney Land in California. I have been to both areas in the summer time, and CA is far more tolerable than FL! Have fun! :)

I'm guessing that hot and humid is not your scene. If so, DO NOT go to Disney World in August. You will be miserable.

I'm also guessing crowds are not your scene. If so, DO NOT go to Disney World in August. You will be miserable.

Enough said! :)

I live in southern Florida and will not go anywhere near WDW in the summer . . . California would be my choice too, and I've never been to Disneyland. That is how hot and humid it is in Florida. And the other problem in central Florida that time of year is afternoon thunderstorms. You can't imagine how much rain can fall in an hour.

The only thing we do in Orlando during the summer is the water parks. We like to go right AFTER one of the above-mentioned afternoon thunder storms when the water parks clear out (helps if you have annual pass).

Good luck.

I have never been to Disney World yet. We have annual passes for Disneyland and go all the time. We have family that go to Disney World more often though.
As far as weather goes, California in the summer is much better than Florida. It can get pretty hot in CA and you may get some humidity, but it's nothing compared to FL.
The crowds in CA are big but can be worked around. Christmas season can be far worse if you can believe it. With that said, it can have days where it hits capacity.
I can't offer any suggestions on crowds at Disney World, sorry.

Well it's already hot and humid here in Florida. We go to Disney World all the time, we have annual passes. And it's nasty already. California summers are much better

California is less humid, but if I could, I'd avoid August, whether it's Florida or California.

If you're doing more than Disney, the beach is about 20 minutes from Disneyland. Sometimes, the beach is actually a bit cold, even when the park is hot.

We went to Disneyland last August. It was mid-80's, I think, but far more tolerable than FL because of the difference in humidity. As for crowds, we went the 3rd week of August, and many kids were back in school, so not jam-packed. As an example, the wait for the Buzz Lightyear ride was only about 10 minutes!

Disneyland, no way Disney World in the humidity, even people who make annual trips to DW say to avoid summer trips because of the humidity and crowds.

August is the worst here usually in SoCal as far as humidity, so aim for earlier in the summer. We did actually go mid-August on the hottest, most humid day of the year a couple of years ago (we were treated to tickets) but survived by drinking LOTS of water and lemonade and spraying each other with water all day. Plus the pool at the hotel helped that late afternoon before we went back at 8. Yes, there will be crowds, so start your day(s) early and hit your must-do's then.

Florida is very hot and sticky in summer. California at times will notget hot until late July /August. June typically is cooler. But hot here in CA is much more tolerable than Florida. Typically a dry heat. I would say both are equally crowded in summer. Disneyland is probably less crowded if you come in early June. Schools here don't get out for summer break until mid June.

I'd go to Disney world in a heart beat. We always go to Disney World and went to Disney Land last summer and it was a little bit of a let down. It just wasn't as magical, mainly because you could see the ride warehouses, see hotels and buildings while you were in the park, the CMs just didn't seem as friendly, etc.

Weather - yes, DL was a lot less warm/humid. But the temperature swing was greater. So although I'd be a little chilled in the morning, I'd be sweltering by 2pm. I felt like I needed to pack more clothes because of that.

Crowds - On a whole, DL crowds seemed lighter, especially in the morning. We are always there at rope drop and could walk on the rides. But by afternoon, the ride lines were atrocious.

Even still, I'd do Disney World - more to do, more parks, and more magic.

I can only speak for CA . Anaheim August heat is likely to be in the 80's and if you are on the unlucky side, 90's. Hot but doable. There is plenty of shade to make if work.

We went to Disney World a few summers ago and we loved it. It's been a LONG time since I have been to Disneyland but disney world would be my choice no question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are from TX you are used to heat. But it's not even the same type of heat as it is here. And it rains almost everyday and it helps cool you off.

I've been to both in the summer and like both. I never understand why people say they are "disappointed" in Disneyland vs. Disneyworld. I think your choice depends on a number of factors. How long are you planning to be there, and are you planning to spend the entire time only at Disney or will you want to check out other local attractions? How old are your children? If they are relatively young, then I highly suggest you go with Disneyland. It is smaller with only two parks (the original Disneyland and California Adventures) -- just the right size for little ones -- and the entrances to the parks are across from each other so if you have a park hopper pass you can go back and forth as you please. We went 2 years ago when my youngest was 4 and her older sisters were 12 and 16. The older girls had a great time as well, and they've previously been to Disneyworld. The new Cars Land has recently opened at California Adventures (it was under construction when we were there). We spent 3 days between the 2 parks and it was perfect. We also like to get away from the carnival atomosphere so we also spent a day at Newport Beach which wasn't a far drive (technically less than an hour, but then there is traffic) and did a little swimming and boogy boarding and also went whale watching (lots of whales!). We also went to Hollywood. There is a Downtown Disney although I'll admit it's a bit disappointing compared to Florida's Downtown Disney.

Disneyworld is of course bigger, with Magic Kingdom (the equivalent of Disneyland), Epcot Center, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. We went to Animal Kingdom once and quite frankly if we went to Disneyworld again I likely wouldn't waste my time on that park again. Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom has just reopened after renovations, so I'm sure that will be great to check out. I don't feel that Epcot Center offers very much for little kids, but once they are a little older (8 or older, I would say), then it's much more fun for everyone. We've never been to Hollywood Studios (gasp!) mostly because my older girls were young at the time we went and, again, it doesn't have as much to offer for little ones. And of course there is a separate water park (I don't believe it's part of the park hopper pass) and Downtown Disney. We also got away from Disney for a couple of days and checked out Universal Studios (their amusement park has a Dr. Suess Land for kids and some awesome roller coasters!).

Weather wise, California rocks in the summer vs. the hot, humid stickiness of Florida. When we were in California the hottest day was an unhumid 82 degrees. In Florida, you'd be better off spending your mornings and evenings in the parks, and your afternoons at the hotel pool or in Disney's waterpark.

Crowd wise -- weekends will always be more crowded at either location. I didn't think one was better than the other.

Have fun!

Crowds can be really bad at Disneyland, especially on the weekends. There are a larger group of local annual pass holders than at WDW in Florida. Also, Disneyland itself is smaller, so it feels more crowded IMO than WDW, which is more spread out. If you go to Disneyland during the week, especially first thing at park opening, the crowds will be smaller and you'll have short lines. Have fun!
