Diaper Rashes

Try triple paste with EVERY diaper change. If no improvementm try an anti-yeast cream OTC. If still no results, take him to derm to rule out other causes of diaper rash (i.e. zinc deficiency,etc).

Hi M. - Try BABY Gold Bond powder. The rash area gets so moist when ointments are constantly used that it can't dry up and heal. The diaper also blocks any air that the area needs to help it dry. Try it....worked for me many times.

My son is 20 months old and also suffers from diaper rashes. Something that has really worked for me has been "Vusion." Its a great diaper ointment which is medicated. Some pediatricians or dermatalogists should carry samples. Good luck!

My daughter suffers from severe diaper rashes as well, even though we change her immediately she still gets the rash. The only thing that I have found to work is Beaudreuxs Butt Paste, it is thick and it does not wear off with urination. Using a warm cloth to wipe it off works best as not to irritate the bottom.

When my now 6 year old was in diapers he had the worst rash. It was so bad that I did not know what to do. I took him to the dr. The dr. said tht he was allergic to the diaper I was using. I had been using the cheap kind to save money. I have also found with my other two children when they get a diaper rash if I stop using baby wipes it helps so much. I will use wet a wet paper towel instead or a wash cloth with warm water. I think that makes a huge difference. Also once in a while it helps to just let the baby walk around naked for a little bit with no diaper. The air will help. It sounds like your childs diaper rash is coming from school though. Change the deyergent and rinse. Also check what kind of wipes or tissue they are using in school to clean him. Another possibility is that he is not being changed often.

I also vote for the TRIPLE PASTE. It worked for my son as well. and FAST!
I also agree with the other moms...check, double check, and triple check his daycare provider!!! Do you feel ABSOLUTLY secure with your agency?

We have the same thing. It looks so painful amd we feel so bad. We have cut down on fruits also and slather him in balmex and powder. We were also told to use the stuff for the burns but have not tried it yet. They told us to try and hold off on that. His rash is getting better however, we know that it keeps coming back. My son (now 19 months) went through this while he was teething. He's got all his teeth now except his lower canines. My ped told me that the 2 year molars and the canines can be the worst when it comes to these kind of side effects--specifically in our case the really acidic BMs that cause these horrible burns. My son went through some nasty diaper rash periods where it was a horrible really painful-looking burn. Thankfully, it didn't last but much more than a half a week to a week max at a time. Same thing, balmex and maalox. I also stressed warm baths for him to sit in and soak. He would be in a little pain sitting down in the tub initially (and would kind of fight me) but then once he was in I think it was soothing (and of course keeping his bottom clean was a must). And yes, I experienced the same thing where he didn't have loose BMs at home only at school--he'd be better over the weekend and by Tuesday after being in school two days the burn was back. I'm convinced that school aggravates it in that the caretakers (while good intentioned) aren't as on top of the poopy diapers as we are when they are home with us. I think they end up sitting in their dirty diapers for a little bit at school until someone notices it or it's time for a routine diaper change. And if they have "wet farts" that don't look like BMs but still leave acidic residue that often goes unnoticed and doesn't warrant a diaper change. Well, that acidic BM/residue then has plenty of time to irritate the skin and make a bad situation worse. I would stress the caretakers at school pay special attention to checking and changing his diaper more frequently than normal as well as using the balmex/maalox solution with every change. I found that to be the most important--and to minimize the use of wipes--especially anything remotely abrasive or scented--I only use Pampers sensitive unscented and would then sometimes just use a washcloth and water when the burn was in full effect. Also my ped recommended an over the counter product called "Florastor". It's a powder that comes in individually wrapped packets-can buy it at Publix- it "promotes and maintains good intenstinal health" I think the box says. You can put it in yogurt each day during this period to help with the digestion issues and maybe decrease some of the acidity that results. Not sure how effective this was but I think it helped speed up the recovery process some. Anyways, hope this is all helpful. Best of luck to you and Christian. I know how rough this can be!

I would change schools and see if it keeps happening. It sounds like they are not changing his diaper. Even though
you come home with less diapers that doesnt mean they are
changing him. Or they are not cleaning him. I know when my
son was teething he had a real bad diaper rash but he had
it all the time.

What brand wipes are they using at school? Also, it sounds like a yeast infection, not a diaper rash which you will need prescription medicine for................I would get another doctor opinion if I were you................

Weleda Calendula Diaper Care Cream.
They sell it at Whole Foods and some Publix.

It is the ONLY cream that works for my babies.

He is probably getting his 2 year molars and the teething creates acid in the stomach...nothing you can do except ride it out.

Also I am sure as his mother you change him as soon as he goes...at school he may not say anything and he is changed after time which burns the skin.

My daughter gets diarrhea from fruit juice and too much apple juice.

It sounds like they aren't doing a good enough job wiping him at diaper changes. Either that or they just aren't changing him quick enough. I would talk to them and if they aren't responsive and understanding, I'd find a new school.

If it is only at school it raises the question on whether they are changing him regularly or not. Maybe he is sitting in a soiled diaper too long and this causes him to get a rash. Maybe he is allergic to the fibers in the diaper and after he goes to the bathroom his skin reacts with a rash. The only other thing I would recommend to you is to switch to cloth diapers or cloth training pants...they are all natural and so most children who use them never get diaper rashes. They are a bit more expensive at first but save you a lot of money in the long run. If he is 28 months I would also recommend to start potty training him, I started training my son at around 24-26 months while he was in school in the evenings and on weekends and the teachers helped him to follow through during the week (he is now six) and I trained my daughter at 23 months but I was home with her (she is now 2 1/2).

I have a 23 month old and for the few times that he had a really bad painful rash, I've used Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Of all the ones they offer over the counter, this has been a life saver for my son. U see the difference and a sign of relief over night and it's completely gone within 3 days.
Now, once in a while when I notice the little red marks around the area, I just automatically use vaseline before it forms into a rash and it works all the time:) This usually happens whenever I have no choice but to leave him with a sitter:(
As far as your son's daycare, u really need to make sure they are cleaning him well and giving him the proper care and attention he needs. Afterall, you are paying them to do this.. Good luck!

My son got rashes too, and the trick is to make sure the area is TOTALLY dry. I used to use the blow-dryer on his butt!!! I swear - on the lowest setting & a three feet away from him, but I would blow-dry it to make sure the area is completely dry!! Otherwise you are just trapping moisture under the cream. You can also use pure cornstarch, which I got at Publix. That worked well to keep it dry too.

Have you tried triple paste? It's available at CVS and that and Boudreaux's Butt Paste (I think you can get it at Wal-Mart) are the best diaper-rash remedies I've seen.

It could also be a dirty changing table at daycare.

I had a friend with similar issues. It turned out they were not changing him often and when they did, they were not wipping him down to remove the acid in the urine. Talk to your day care provider about it and if there is no change, look for other day care options. My friend finally changed day cares and the rash was gone.

My children rarely had that problem. Of course my oldest had to be the guinea pig. I got to where I changed the diapers as soon as they urinated or had a bowel movement and then I let them dry really good before putting on another diaper. Sometimes leaving them without a diaper for a little while to get air, if you are at home. When you are away from home just changing as soon as he goes and making sure he is comepletely dry before putting on another diaper. The bacteria and fungi that cause this problem thrive on dark, moist places. It seemed that if I left the diaper on just a little too long after she went then I would see redness almost immediately. For me, it was just a matter of staying on top of the diaper changing thing.

I would definitely ask around at the school. It sounds like something he's coming into contact with there and it might be affecting other kids there. I hope he feels better!

I would check out the school really good and maybe even consider finding a new one. Maybe they are not changing his diapers often enough.

I know this sounds crazy and ask you pediatrician if your son is old enough and use crisco. Yes, animal lard works overnight and is wonderful. I was at a friend's shower and an older woman was there who gave her a small tub of crisco for diaper rash. She said her sons still use it if they get a strawberry from a fall and they are in their 30's. I use it on my two year old son and is is the only thing for diaper rash I use.

Try Triple Paste. It is expensive, but worth it. My son's butt was so bad the skin looked burnt and Triple Paste was like a miracle. Buy the big tub instead of the little tube, you can scoop it out. Sometimes you can put the Aquaphore on top of the triple paste to act like a barier so it doesnt get worn off as easily. I promise you will see a difference within 2 days of using it..

Just sprinkle on plain CORN STARCH, it will clear up almost over night! Use like any powder. It did miracles for my children and still works on rashes today!

Try changing the brand of diaper that you use. My daughter used to get a rash anytime I bought luv brand diapers. I don't know if she was sensitive to what that brand used for absorbtion. Also to help prevent diaper rash have the daycare that he goes to change him more frequently. It will be more expensive for you but worth your baby not having a sore bottom.

M.: Have you tried giving him probiotics? aka acidophilus. It's the naturally occuring bacteria in yogurt. It does wonders with their little bellies, and in essence will also help with the diaper rash. Good luck!
