Bleeding Diaper Rash - Newport,OR

My daughters were also allergic to disposables. We began using cloth and it cleared up right away. in the mean time DO NOT USE WIPES! they can really sting. Just place him in warm water, no soap. If you think it is a yeast infection use a little clotrimazol(sp?) and hydrocortisone cream and a nice think diaper cream with a lot of zinc oxide. like aveno diaper cream.
I know cloth diapers can be a pain, but they were really a life saver and aren't as much work as I thought they would be.

I have found lanolin to work incredibly quickly for bleeding diaper rash. It's the same sort used for cracked breastfeeding nipples.

My daughter was actually allergic to disposables. It was horrible. I switched to cloth and basically kept her tushy uncovered most of the time. As a result, she was very easy to potty train.
Keep the hiney aired out as much as possible.
Never use diaper wipes, even the unscented ones. Use a warm wash cloth to wipe the tushy. A load of soft wash rags isn't that big a deal.
Check with her pediatrician. Some things that are supposed to act as barriers can actually keep bacteria close to the skin which isn't good.
She may need a special type of medicine.

I certainly hope the little one feels better soon. My daughter had the worst rash I'd ever seen on a baby in my life and it's hearbreaking.
I consulted the doctor, put her in cotton diapers and training underpants and let her air out 99% of the time.

What I would do is give her a gentle warm bath and use no soap, just warm water to clean her off...

Then put diaper rash cream on her... (personally i am a fan of boudreaux's butt paste, or aveeno diaper cream... but if you have a different brand on hand you can use that)

Next let her go diaper free as long as possible. If she is not crawling/walking then lay her on a towel and don't worry about messes... just throw the towel in the wash if it gets wet or dirty. if she is more mobile, see if you can pin a cloth diaper on her (a lot of parents use them as burp cloths) - look online for instructions on how if you don't know. if there are no cloth diapers a thick hand towel may work...

The best cure for diaper rash is often fresh air and sunshine (like letting her go diaper free near a window... if the rash doesn't clear up within a couple of days the baby may need to go to the doctor for a prescription.

Also... try to note any unusual foods the baby has eaten. Mandarin oranges gave my nephew the WORST diaper rashes- they just did not agree with him... If any new foods have entered her diet- she could be having a reaction to them, and maybe they need to be reintroduced later.

We've been there. DD once screamed herself purple and the nurse said, "your child has a rash, but she is a healthy baby." I was so upset.

Things that helped:

1) Nekkid butt time - infants can lay on changing pads
2) Aveeno oatmeal soak - I just asked DH to get us some more b/c it works well for her
3) use washcloths and water vs commerical wipes
4) try a combo paste of lotramin (not the plus version), neosporin and A&D or Desitin - generics OK. Pediatrician said that should knock out the big 3 causes
5) try to determine if it's food-related. My DD can't have apples.

actually you can use neosporin on the open areas - that will heal it faster than anything else. Do not use baby wipes; rather use soft washcloths with warm water. once the open areas are coated with neosporin, use a diaper cream with a zinc concentration of about 40% - that will heal the rest of the rash the quickest. Desitin original actually doesn't burn if you coat the open areas first then use it on the rest. and it WORKS

The only thing that stopped my daughters bleeding diaper rashes was switching to cloth. It was so difficult to see my little baby in so much pain, we found out that she was allergic to many of the agents in disposable diapers.
I never thought I would be a cloth mama, but it is cheap and easy and helps our little ones hiney. I now have two kids in cloth diapers.

We've had good luck with aquaphor. I agree with the poster who said don't use baby wipes. If it's a "normal" diaper rash it should go away within 1-2 diaper changes if it doesn't you could try to use an anti-fungal cream in case it is a yeast infection.

You should definitely call her doctor to see what s/he recommends you put on it. You didn't mention her age and that can make a big difference on what is safe for her or not.

When my son had a similar rash our pediatrician said the best thing to do was to put him in the tub with a little baking soda and to give him lots of diaper free time. I would put loose shorts on him and let him play outside that way he was getting air and he was protected from the ground and when he peed I just pulled the shorts off an threw them in the laundry, no carpet or floor to clean.

I don't know if this has happened before but it happened 3 times for us before we realized that the problem was melon. If he ate even a little bit of melon he got a terrible diaper rash. Just keep track of what she was eating and anything that might be new or different.

plain yogurt after rinsing her off with the shower on lukewarm. Seems like either the formula she's eating isn't agreeing with her (or some other food/juice) or someone's not changing her diaper right away and allowing her to sit in her acidic urine and feces.

We have to rinse our grandson off in the warn bath water, minus soap every time he has a dirty. When he's well we do it with soap. He often takes 2-3 baths per day. He can't have any dirty on his skin ever! He has figured out that the baths keep him well. He's almost 2 and starts yelling bath when he dirties.

Don't use baby wipes, they can really burn when they are raw. Rinse her poop off in the bath or use a wet soft washcloth to wipe her off. I would personally just rinse her off in the bath. This is what we are doing with my daughter right now- she has a bad diaper rash too and it it too painful to wipe her.

Get her to the Doctor tomorrow- it could be a rash that requires a prescription cream to heal, (yeast, fungal, bacteria.)

Make sure she is dry after her baths before you put a diaper on her and if you can let her be naked for an hour or so every so often.

don't use baby wipes; instead use soft wet washcloth to wipe her bottom and/or just rinse in the tub. also, don't use desitin which burns when there's a rash -- get triple paste which is more expensive but doesn't burn. also, try to let her go bottomless if at all possible which will help the healing process by not keeping the skin damp. finally, take her to the doctor as she could have a yeast infection which comes with diaper rashes that bad. good luck

naked helps a lot. As often as you can let her run around with nothing covering the butt. My kids are allergic to Aloe Vera and that is in EVERY brand of disposable, most brands of wipes, and many brands of detergents. I hope that isn't the problem!

poor little one! We swear by giving our boys a bath in colloidal oatmeal (aveeno has some bath packets you can buy in any drug store). It clears up bad diaper rash every time for us. If it doesn't clear up in a few days, though, take her to the doctor as it might be more than just a regular diaper rash.

Stop using baby wipes for the time being. They have alcohol in them which stings and the other chemicals will irritate it more. If she still has diarrhea that is causing diaper rash then put some cornstarch in her diaper to soak up the diarrhea and keep it off her bum. Then rinse off in the bathtub after every bowel movement. Allow to air dry and get air as much as possible. Use a thick coating of Desitin overnight. That should clear it up.
If she is over the diarrhea and diaper creams aren't working she probably has a yeast infection. That will definitely bleed, even if it's mild. Use an over the counter anti fungal foot cream for athletes foot, like Lortrimin. That should clear it up in 1-2 days. If not call the Dr. you may need a prescription.

Do the bumps look like little, um, weeping mountain caps? It could be a yeast infection. That can be caused by high acidity from juice, maybe too much of a particularly acidic fruit, or if she's had diarrhea. If she was recently on antibiotics. She could have a corn allergy.

Do NOT use cornstarch powder or feed her corn products at all. If it's yeast it'll feed a yeast infection. They like sugar too, so no sugary foods or drinks.

You can get Phillip's Milk of Magnesia, plain, and mix it with Balmex or Desitin into a paste and apply it right to her bottom and coochie area to help soothe and reduce the acidity. If it turns out to be yeast you can apply .1% (or is it .01%?) Lotriman cream and mix it with the pasty mess. Eating yogurt or applying plain yogurt to her affected area can help soothe too.

After a bath let her air dry. Try to let her have diaper free time and naked time nothing on for a while after she's relieved herself and before applying the pasty mess and a clean diaper. Change her diaper frequently and don't let her remain in poop at all... no wet diapers if possible.

Get rid of the disposable diapers she is highly allergic to them.
Get cloth diapers. Clean them in Ecover laundry detergent or soap and you will never see a mark on her behind again.

my son had this problem. We used vaciline and starch. it somehow works together to coat it and protect it without sticking. Its the only thing that worked.

Try using Lansinoh Clean and Condition diaper wipes. They are the best! I've been using them for my kids for 6 years now and will never use anything else. As far as cream, the Desitin Creamy kind has worked well for us. Good luck.

I use baby aquaphor on my daughter. She's 3 1/2 months old and she gets diaper rash every other day practically. The aquaphor helps pretty well. Her rashes clear up within 24 hours.
