Have you tried Dr Smiths ointment? You have to ask for it behind the counter at the Pharmacy. It works great.

My little sister had the same problem when she was a baby we used monostat on her since a diaper rash is pretty much a yeast infection. Just put a thin layer on her bottom just like you would a rash ointment. My parent tried all kinds of ointment over the counter and prescription before the doctor told them to use the monostat, it cleared it up fast.

Pedi needs to see her and give you an rx. probably yeast infection from antibiotics. Dr. Smith's is the absolute best I've ever used for diaper rash. Use it every time you change her whether she has any diaper rash or not and you will keep her clear.

It sounds like maybe the antibiotics is causing the rash. My son had the same problem. I used plain water to wipe his bottom during diaper changes, let his butt air dry and then globbed BUTT PASTE on him. BUTT PASTE is the only brand of diaper rash ointment that worked. Try that. also let your baby play for a few minutes without a diaper, whenever possible

you wash her little bottom with antibacterial soap in the tub in warm water lever works great, then blow dry her bottom with the cool setting on the hair dryer, and then put vaseline on it, and keep it changed and it will clear up. I usually put lotrimin under it and vaseline on top of that. A friend of mine's baby had horrible diaper rash and she either uses beaudreaux's butt paste or the medicine maalox on it you put it on and let it dry and it works wonders too. I use the first one via my pediatrician and it works great too!

A&D Diaper Rash cream works miracles. Try That or Balmex that always seems to work in minutes.

I know that when my son took amoxacillin for the first time he did the exact same thing. I found a cream called Dr.Smith's at our local HEB grocery store. I have noticed it now being in Wal-Mart too. That is the only thing that I found that would help his KILLER rash. Hope this helps.

My daughters best firend's son had this problem when he was in diapers and has extrememly sensitive skin. No over the counter diaper rash creame would help. The doctor perscribed a special ointment for her. He also can not drink Apple juice I have found that some children a little apple juice is too much. Find another drink for them. Dilute the apple juice by at least half if you do give it to them. BUT! my first reaction is that if she has never had this problem that she might be having a reaction to the antibiotics so take the diaper off, let her run around with out one just put something under her and/or put her i a cool bath to help relieve the rash. KEEP calling the doctor. We have a help line here at our hospital. Check with one nearest you and see if you have one. They are lifesavers when the doctor is "unavailable".

Hey...I am a pediatric nurse. Try Monistat (over-the-counter) like you would use for a yeast infection....Of course, keep the area clean and as much as you can, let her lie on her tummy with her diaper off and her little bottom exposed to air. Most likely the antibiotics are burning her sensitive skin.

Another super good thing is Bag Balm. I know it sounds CRAZY, but you can buy it at Walgreens and other drug stores and it is GREAT at healing stuff like a blistered butt. It was originally used on cow's teats when they chapped and red and started cracking and bleeding. They still use it for that, but it has expanded into the human realm. REALLY WORKS!!!

If all else fails, after you clean her off after a diaper change, pat her gently dry and then SLATHER about an inch thick covering of vaseline over the entire affected area, and that will help some by simply being so thick it will make it harder for the urine and feces to actually come into contact with her skin...

One last thing! If she has diahrrea from the antibiotics, treat that ASAP to cut down on the stools she has. Keep trying your doc too.

I'm guessing that she is having a reaction to the amoxacillin. Our middle child got those terrible diaper rashes all the time and we tried everything out there (over the counter and prescription). i have 3 boys and they have had there share of diaper rashes and bad ones at that to and what i got was caronia it is a ointment that i got at the feed store yes it is for animals but i but it on and with in a day it was better i have told one of my friends that is a first time mother of twins and she thought i was crazy and it got bad and she went and got some and called me the next day and was shocked that it workes so well. it is a big yellow tube with a red cap. if you go to the counter and ask the sales person they can get it for you and hope it works for you let me know.

okay, i know this might sound insane, but it works. i have a friend who'se a foster mom and she gets babies with really bad diaper rash all the time. she uses this ointment made for animals (it's used to treat small cuts and scrapes), it's totally safe. It's called Corona ointment, it's in a yellow tube with a red top and you can get it at wal-mart or target, pretty much anywhere. You should try it.

Air is what she needs. Have her to go without diaper for 2-4 hours for about 2 or 3 days or until she gets better. You can do for 1-2 hours in the daytime and do another hour or so before bedtime. Use the towels and diaper cloth for her to lie on the floor, playpen, or baby tub.

hi, just a little mom to mom advise. if she is taking an antibiotic it will usually cause a yeast infection in little girls (one of the bad side effects to the great medicine). Remind your pedi that she is taking it and they will probably give you a rx cream called nystatin(works great). in the mean time, let her soak in a warm bath as often as you can. instead of putting a diaper on her right away let her tt air for as long as you can. instead of using wipies to clean her try just a soft warm wet cloth or bath rag to clean her when she goes potty. diaper wipes sometmes have alcohol, dyes, and perfumes and can cause the rash to burn even more when you wipe the baby.this should help her some, has helped us in the past. good luck, also if she is really uncomfortable try alittle tylenol to ease the pain.

a little about me: i'm a married, stay at home mother of three, 10 yr. old son, 3 yr. old daughter, and a 16 mth. old son.

I know you have a lot of suggestions, but my daughter gets the same way with antibiotics. You need to stop using wipes and just use water (in a spray bottle) and cotton balls. The wipes have alcohol in them and that makes it worse. Then make sure the area is dry and gob on the Vaseline and you can add butt paste to that. The only thing that worked for me when she was that bad was vaseline. I only used Lotrimin for yeast infection if she had red bumps on the area. You can also make a paste with cornstarch and vaseline to use. I did call the nurse and that is what they said. I also started giving her Acidophilus (powder form) mixed with her milk. That helped with the stomach being upset and the diarrhea, which was causing the diaper rash. Hope this helps.

I would first suggest a total recall of the antibiotic because it totally sounds like a major allergic reaction!! You could try probiotics for her they will naturally help her get better.Here is a link for info...

Also google probiotics for yourself they are awesome for so many reasons!!I keep my kids on them always so they stay healthier.
Make sure they are suitable for her age.
Also try airing her bottom out a bit.Let her have some diaper free time,on a towel or blanket of course,Oxygen helps diaper rash alot!!Also you could try pure corn starch on her bottom alot of baby powders have fragrance in them which could also irritate her skin.

Sounds like Yeast. My son suffers terribly from it when on antibiotics. Our pedi doesn't even need to see them. They told me this:

Mix equal parts Lotrimin AF (Yes, the foot fungal cream), Vaseline, and Hydrocortisone cream. Use that generously on every diaper change. The Lotrimin combats the yeast, the hydrocortisone helps ease the itch, and the vaseline creates a moisture barrier.

If you are able, try leaving the diaper off for a while each day. Fresh air helps. Diapers can really irritate her more. Change diapers OFTEN - Immediately after every wet or dirty.

Make sure she is throughly dry after each diaper change. Bath her daily and again be sure she is dry before diapering after a bath. You may even want to add a little baking soda in the tub.

Get her on probiotics or eating yogurt daily. YoBaby is perfect for this. I buy acidophilus powder from the pharmacy and sprinkle it in his food. It is behind the counter, but you do not need a prescription. Cut out all fruit juice if she is drinking any. The acidity will make it worse.

It sounds like she may have a yeast infection. All of the pastes and powders are likely making it worse. Apply some topical cream, like monistat or whatever you might use for a yeast infection on her rash. Do not put any inside her, just on the outside rash. I would also try feeding her some yogurt.

My daughter is super-sensitive to amoxacillin and had those terrible diaper rashes and diarreha as well. We stopped the amox (usually earlier than prescribed) and treated her with butt paste or lotromin and within a day or so the diaper rash would go away. We don't take amox anymore.

Hi E., go to a Gebo's or somewhere where they sell horse feed. There is some stuff called Corona that is great stuff. You probably think its crazy but trust me it works. Never had problems with my daughter's rash.

Sounds like yeast to me too. My neice just had her diagnosis, and they said vagisil. It worked in a few applications. My daughter had it before so I knew right away when they showed me her booty what it was with my neice. My sis in law, a vet tech, was at my house and I googled the symptoms and pics for her of a yeast infected diaper rash. There was no doubt my neice had it. I wish my doctor would have suggested the vagisil when my daughter had it instead of some costly prescriptions, nine years ago.....

Hi, I have twin son's and when they were infants, they had to take antibiotics for an ear infection. Both ended up having diarrhea so bad that it blistered their buttocks. When I tried to clean it off, they screamed and the skin just sloughed off, it was so bad I cried. I went and got some corona and it immediately eased the pain and started healing the skin. I never went anywhere without it after that, and took a jar to our daycare giver to use. They never had another rash or skin problem. I never used anything else after that. Good luck.

Let her air out and cake on the vaseline. It is cool, and not medicated. This works wonders.

I read through the advice and absolutely agree with the Corona ointment (yellow tube with red lid). It was the only cream that worked for my kiddos (ages 4 and 2). Also I let them sit and play in a lukewarm bath water to which I added about 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol. This numbs their pain and when nothing else had stopped their crying, this usually worked. (just be careful they don't let them rub the water in their eyes.) This type of bath is also the best for bringing down a fever.

She has a yeast infection/rash from the antibotics. My son did the same thing. Call the doc as they now have a new med (I've seen it on TV) just for this.

You can also let her sit in cool water with oatmeal in it. It will help a lot, too.

Other than going comando (diaperless) there won't be much relief for about 12-24 hours after treatment!

Sounds like a yeast infection to me. Get her on some probiotics, put lotrimin on and then use Aquaphor to seal it in. Put baking soda in her bath...also dry her REALLY good after each diaper change and let her go naked for a little while aftera diaper change. I would refrain from using wipes and just use a wash cloth - you do more laundry but the wipes can irritate it worse sometimes. Triple Paste is also good if you don't have Aquaphor. Good luck!

Well my son had a really bad diaper rash a while back from having been sick. His bottom was burned! It was so bad. I couldn't even wipe it with anything. I ended up using a spray bottle with water and Milk of Magnesia mixed in it. I would spray his bottom down instead of wiping it. Plus the Milk of Magnesia would coat his bottom and fight against the acid.
It helped alot. I would suggest that you go ahead and put in a call to the doctor (Oops just saw that you already have) and see if they can prescribe something for her to put on her bottom. I use a really wonderful ointment called Resinol that I got from Walgreens. This stuff works better than butt paste or anything else that I have tried. I did have to special order it but you might try calling and see if anyone has it on the shelf. Trying to treat it with something for yeast or bacteria may make it worse for now since it's so raw. So maybe the doctor can use something that won't be so irritating.

First of all, make sure you are using perfume free diapers and perfume free wipes. My little boy is very sensitive as well. I recommend buying Target brand diapers and Target brand "Sensitive" wipes. DO NOT BUY UNSCENTED! Unscented is not the same because it contains masking fragrances. Also don't forget to use perfume free bath soap. I use Burt's Bees Tear Free Shampoo & Wash because it's an all natural product. Even though it has a little fragrance in it, it's a natural fragrance and not synthetic. If you need totally fragrance free, look in your organic section of your local store or shop online. Also wash your baby's clothes in perfume free laundry detergent (I use ALL) and perfume free fabric softener (I use Downey). Also find an organic or all natural butt paste that contains zinc oxide (Burt's Bees has one). After a day or two you should start seeing a huge improvement. Also continue using the perfume free products. If you ever go back, it will crop up again, I promise you.

My son had a severe diaper rash like that when he was on antibiotics too. They told me to use the lotriman, but first, to let them soak in a bath of warm water but add baking soda. The nurse said that will help with the pain. If you can too, let her air dry. Leave her diaper off as long as you can, and that should help too. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

a couple of things you might want to see about getting are Calmoseptine or Nystatin (if there's a chance yeast is involved). I got Calmoseptine samples from my pediatrician, and Nystatin is a prescription. We mixed the two together (when we applied it) for our kids' monster diaper rashes. Good luck!

I use cornstarch on diaper rash. It works really well on my daughter

My son is the same way. I tried switching diapers and that has helped. Huggies workes well, beacuse they are breathable. Also leave her naked with no diaper on as much as possible. When he is asleep somtimes I hold him with no diaper and lay a towel under him. The air helps the skin.

Does it look like a carpet burn or like she was "shot with BBs" (quote directly from my pedi)? You said it gets worse with a "dirty" diaper. If the rash looks like the above and gets worse with "dirties", it is probably a yeast rash and can be helped by the following (my dauther got these all the time due to a skin disorder and yeast in the gut, so we became experts):

Put a topical yeast/fungal killer or a skin ph ballancer on it after the area is cleaned: liquid silver is good we were told and used-we asked at a health store

Let it dry as much as possible-moisture helps aid in yeast growth! Let her "air-out" for as long as possible!

Then use anti-fungal cream as you would a diaper ointment. The one our dr. recomended was actually an athlete's foot cream with the same active ingredient as monistate (it is like micro......, starts with a "m")-it is thicker and cheaper than yeast infection creme and sticks to the skin better. Women's yeast infection creme is more "watery". Put only on infected areas.

For better moisture barier (yeast grows in warm moist places), top anti-fungal with petroleum jelly liberally

Then add powder to keep petroleum jelley from sticking to diaper. You can use medicated powder too if you like. Make sure it is hypo-allergenic.

Also, whenever she is on anti-biotics from now on, UP HER LIVE-ACTIVE CULTURE intake by giving her active yogurt and or cheese to try to keep these rashes from happening in the first place.

And, consider giving her a bath in a PH ballancer. Some mothers swear by Apple Cider Vinegar (what we used, but not while the skin was "open"), but there are others-ask around!

DR. SMITHS all the way! My children did the same thing with antibiotics, teething, etc. As soon as they peed or pooped they blistered....DR. SMITHS has been our saving grace and we use nothing else. I buy it at walmart. It is in a small white square box...if a mom had not told me about it I would never have found it)!!!

A probiotic will help some too, but even with my kids on a probiotic daily, antibiotics do that to them at times; so we buy two of the DR. SMITHS diaper rash cream and have one on hand at all times. Put a thick coat on tonight and her bottom will look SOOOOOOOOOOO much better by morning...IT WORKS.

Plain ole' CORN STARCH is the best I have ever used.... It almost instantly helps with the pain and keeps them drier. I have actually had to use this for myself when I had my histerectomy.. My aunt works for a gyn and thats what they recommend... plus it's cheap and something everyone has in the cabinet. trust me it WORKS.

She could be a little alergic to the meds, If possible put her in a place where you can let her go without the diaper, a playpen with something to cover it etc. And call the Dr. back to see what ointment he suggests. Is she drinking any juice that could cause extra acid right now. I've heard of putting corn starch on a diaper rash also.

I so remember those days...even though they were nearly 15 years ago now : ) I will quote my sons pediatrician who stated "I would have to deny it in professional circles, but I will tell you what my mom used...bag balm." This is a product available in most pharmacies over the counter and comes in a green can. Just cover the affected area..you cannot use to much and it has NO harmful side affects. It is also good for chapped areas, horribly dry/calloused skin, skin tears of any sort. It really is good stuff. I now include it as part of every baby present I give and have always heard big thank yous from all recipients. Hang in there. And let me know how it works. C.

It sounds like you child may be allergic to penicillin, base in amoxicillin. I'd call and tell my doctor that. Usually speads up process. Is he having any other allergic symptoms.

That aside, for diaper rash, cover the infected area in thick layer of Pepto. A pediatrician advised to do this. It works for normal rashes. Let it dry before covering. Also, let the child lay for brief times without diaper so the area can breath. This helps. Covered keeps it moist, which breeds infection and germs to make it worse. The Pepto does the same thing on the bottom that it does for inside throat and tummy, it coats and protects. My aunt used it on my cousin at dr.'s advise for really bad diaper rash. Since then, my family, when normal Desitin or Neosporin won't work coat the rear in tons of pepto.

Also, you might try Benadryl cream. Also, give the child a bit of liquid Benadryl for kids. If that helps, you know your kids has an allergy to penicillin. In which case, you definitely need to talk to the doctor so that you get a different type of meds for the ear. I have really bad allergies to citrus and know the Benadryl helps. My son is allergic to penacillin, which we also discovered when he was prescribed amoxicillin for earache. Only my son had a reaction more severe than rash, which required immediate medical attention.

The best think in the world to use is Corona Cream. It's actually for animals, but some pharmacies carry it. Even our Wal-mart pharmacy in Lubbock, TX carries it because it's so effective for babies. You can get it in either a yellow tub or tube with a red lid. I have a 3 year old and 6 month old and both have had a diaper rash that bled. Corona cream was the solution every time!

E., I don't know if this will be of any help, but my sister's baby had the same thing & it was horrible for everyone! What she ended up having to do was take her over to the sink & use a mild soap & water each & every time she needed changing. Then just pat her dry, let her "air-out" for a few minutes on a blanket (they like that:)), & put all the Desitin, or whatever you use on her, all over again! It's a hassle, but even a soapy washcloth or unscented baby-wipes don't cut it like pure water rinsing away all the impurities. Hope it helps! Let us know how it goes! S.

I swear by both, either are GREAT and worth a try, Triple Paste and Aquaphor. You can both of these at Wal-Mart.
However, I agree with a previous post. It could very likely be a reaction from the antibiotics. This is very common.

Try mixing calamin lotion with diaper rash medicine. It worked for my daughter.

You have to be careful about what you use, you want it to be free of chemicals/toxins so that the rash will get better. Unfortunately alot of lotions/creams have the harsh ingredients. I use Renew, no toxins/chemicals which means it's safer and works great!! I love it and it cleared up my daughter's rash really fast!!

Ok Grandma to the rescue. There are ointments that will help you just have to find the one that does. My Mom intervened on my behalf when i was a young mom for just this reason.
Brown some flour like masking gravy in a clean skillet, (cast iron is best) until it is dark brown. Remove from the heat and let it cool. Then put it in a baby food jar that has holes poked in the top and sprinkle it generously every time you change diapers.
If you want to go the traditional route, the best diaper rash ointment I have found is Dr Smith's diaper ointment.

Corn Starch works well.

Get Triple Paste (Taret or Walgrees). It works wonders! Also, you might try aveeno baby bath powder- you sprinkle it in the bath and it soothes! Definetley see your pediatrician. I would also ask about Culturelle. It is very safe and gently and it replaces the good bacteria you loose when you are on antibiotics. My pediatrician recommended it. Good Luck

It sounds like she has a yeast infection. I had the same problem with my Daughter when she was about 8 months. I had changed her dipers from Huggies to Pampers that was when the rash started. I tryed The expencive rash cream, Monistat, Sleeping with No diper(what a Mess), Baking soda baths, Corn starch paste and the perscription the Dr. gave me. Nothing worked perminatly. We went back and forth with the rash for 4 months. Fnally my MIL told my to feed her Yogart. I went out and bought some Baby Yo. It worked like a charm about 5 days later it was completely gone. I also used butt paste and powder. I found the combo makes the best barrior. also Alot of people say to use wash cloths that makes alot more mess to clean especially when you have a baby that is hurting and wants your full attention. Use extra sensitive wipes. The pampers wipes are really thin I liked the Huggies ones. I really hope this helps.

Is it possible that she is alergic to Amoxacilin? Change brands of diapers, my son was alergic to Luv's, but did great with Huggies. Change her every half hour and keep the boudros butt paste smeared on her good and thick, then powder (Johnsons baby powder has a formula that is medicated) her good and thick. Bathe her in luke warm water with oatmeal. Sounds long drawn out and laborous, but it will clear up, just not fast enough to stop you from feeling her pain! Is it possible she is teething? This is a double whammy, ear infection and teething, OUCH!!

My nine month old son is going through the same thing! My husband and I have tried the creams you mentioned with the same result as yours. The one we have found to work the best so far, is Aveeno and that Dr. something or other stuff (sorry, i can't remember his exact name). We also changed his diet a little.

We took out the more acidic juices and foods that he was eating and that seemed to ease it a little as well.

We have also found warm baths soothe him and ease the pain.

Did the rash start when she started on the antibiotics? She may be having a reaction. I would ask your doc about that as well.
