HELP! We are looking to possibly build a home in oak point. We live in Frisco now with 2 little ones that will be starting kindergarten soon. Does anyone know anything about these school districts. We know that Frisco has an amazing reputation, but I would love to hear some opinions about Denton and Aubrey. Thank you so much!!

What can I do next?

The further out you move the less strict/challenging the school (is what I have noticed as well as some friends) in lesser known districts. Denton ISD isn't too bad. However, I have two friends that live in Aubrey and they do not like the school district due to not as challenging, bullies...etc. I do believe that you need to thoroughly check out the school district by seeking out reviews online. Just remember there will always be positive vs negative for all locations.

As a personal experience...my husband and me moved from Plano to Little Elm for our daughter's last year of high school. The school stated it was exemplary but by their standards they were...by ours not so much. Our daughter was highly commended on all her state tests; Little Elm was happy to have her to add to their roster. Plano Senior High School said they did not want to lose such an excellent student and offered my daughter the option to stay for her senior year. She chose not to make the drive and regretted it. The Little Elm high school did not require much of her, at Plano her final year she would have had to take 7 classes in Little Elm only 2 but she had to fill in two electives to meet their 4 classes otherwise they stated by Little Elm standards she would have been graduated. We moved out of Little Elm (denton county) and came back to collin county. We we're glad that we only rented to test the waters.

Every parent has their own set of standards, just as school districts do. It is up to you to weigh the negatives vs. positives for your children. Do your research online, go in person to inquire about curriculum...ask them questions. I am sure you will make the best decision for you and your family :)

I live in Frisco ISD and my experience with the schools here was decent. I am homeschooling now, but that's more due to circumstances you would find at any school, and not particular to the school district (class size, testing, full-time hours for kinder, etc.)

The only information I have about Denton ISD is from a story I read in the news very recently. They changed their grading policy pretty significantly and there was some dissension over the issue. It actually sounded pretty revolutionary and forward-thinking to me. I will try to find the story and update with the link. :)

I agree with Shauna... do a LOT of fact checking.

My daughter graduated with honors from Plano West. We moved to Plano in 1989 for the school system. Daughter was born in 1994 and graduated in 2013.

A lot of people don't like Plano because it is a hard curriculum but rest assured, the students who go through the Plano system are well prepared academically for college.

Good luck!!
