I would buy a disposable styrofoam cooler, an put him in there with some ice. (Maybe dry ice would work better.)
Our beloved cat died this morning, and we don't want to bury him until our son comes back from his trip tomorrow late afternoon. Do you think it's okay to leave his body out for today and tomorrow? I'm going to put him in the garage, where it's coolest.
I miss my cat.
I couldn't bring myself to put him in the freezer, so I put him in a cooler on ice. My son (19) did want to see him, so he looked at his body and chose to cremate him and keep his ashes in a lovely box the service provides.
Thank you all!

In the freezer, please!! Just put the cat in a bag of some sort and in the freezer.
I grew up on a farm, I know just how quickly dead bodies deteriorate in the heat in two days...
The disposable cooler would be a good idea or line a box in plastic and then add ice. You could use the box as a casket.
We were in that situation a few years ago. We chose to put him in a cooler with ice, wrapped in a t-shirt that he loved. After burial we chose to get rid of the cooler.
Fwiw - over the place we buried him we planted a rose. Every time it blooms I feel his love.
I still miss him.
Ugh, I am so sorry about your kitty, Page. If you can't bring yourself to put him in the freezer, maybe go shopping for a lovely case/box just the right size?
I wish I could sit and cry with you.
:(
Sorry for your loss. I would wrap him up and put in freezer or in a cooler covered with ice.
I'm sorry for your loss. Pets are a big part of my family and like my fur babies.
I agree with others to wrap and put in freezer.
Possible call your local ER animal hospital and see if they can hold him for you??
Best wishes.
I'm sorry. Harvey was a character, and he will be missed. :(
Do you think your son would want to see him? If so, I think you will have to refrigerate or freeze him. I was away at summer camp when my beloved childhood dog died, and I remember actually feeling relieved that my parents had buried her without me being there. For me, it was pretty overwhelming to have my childhood pet gone, and actually seeing her would have just made it horrible. To me, it felt better to remember my dog as she had been, tail wagging and happy. So, that's another perspective. I'm not sure what would feel best for your family.
Anyway, I'm sorry. He was a good cat, and handsome, too.
So sorry for your loss! In the heat of summer, I wouldn't leave him in the garage for two days. If you feel that you must delay burying him, I would put him in a plastic bag in a cooler of ice.
I am sorry for the loss of your pet!
I am so sorry. You should refrigerate his body if you are not going to bury him immediately. Your veterinarian would likely be willing to hold his body for you. Just call and ask.
Sorry for your loss. I'd put him in the freezer.
Sorry for your loss. I would wrap him up and put him in the deep freeze until the burial.
Frankly, I would bury him now. The decomposition process starts quickly after death...you do not want your son to see the cat's body bloated up with decomposition gases.
oh, so sorry. dang.
absolutely not on the garage. no.
if you must delay the burial, wrap him well and put him the freezer.
but your best bet is to bury him now. he's not going to look good no matter what. i know some folks get more 'closure' from actually seeing the body, but it's not always possible.
my sincere condolences to you all.

If you are not planning to bury him today put his body in the freezer.
I'm so, so sorry. I know this must be a really hard time. It's never easy to lose a family member, furry or otherwise.
I would put the kitty in a freezer. I would still not let him see the actual body. A 2 day old body, even from the freezer, is not a pretty sight.
Don't put him in the garage. He will decompose quickly and it will be terribly unsanitary, smelly, and awful. You don't want to bury him looking and smelling like that.
So sorry.
So sorry Rosebud...
But you have to freeze him... you wouldn't want your son to see your dear cat all decomposing and bloated and smelly and/or flies coming around it already. The decomposing process starts already.
Seeing the cat all "decomposing" will be not pleasant for your son. Maybe even terrifying?
... the cat, will get all stiff too.
Sweetie, do you have room in your freezer? That's what we did with our guinea pig when he died many years ago. It's awfully warm out, even in a cool garage.
So sorry. I know you miss him.
:(
In 2 days time an unrefrigerated body might really start to bloat and smell.
Freezer's a good idea but if yours is like mine there's just no room in there for anything cat sized.
Your next best bet is wrapping him up, and put him on ice in a cooler.
Hugs to you, Rosebud. You've already gotten good advice. Just wanted to say that I was sorry for your loss.
I definitely support frozen. Double bagged and frozen or over ice in a Styrofoam cooler. We just buried our Pug yesterday after she spent all week in the vet's freezer. Twice now we've done that to make time for family ranch burials. I miss my Pug. My condolences to you and your family.
I'm so sorry for your loss... I think you are very sweet to want to wait so that your son can be there.
My husband says put him in the freezer....wrap him up very very well and freeze him.
Two days even in the garage will make for a very nasty dead kitty.
Sorry for your loss!!
If you're not going to bury him immediately, he needs to go in the freezer. Otherwise, your garage is going to reek of decaying flesh.
No! Sounds insensitive, but if you want to save him for 2 days then he needs to go into the freezer.
freezer - tied up in a walmart bag or something.
You should consult your vet. Or you can go ahead and put him in a box, that is sealed. I wouldn't want my child holding or seeing a pet that has been dead for 2 days
I am sorry your cat is no longer in the physical, however I urge you to confirm the laws regarding burial of animals in your area. It is very likely to be illegal to burry your cat yourself
My vote is for a cooler and some ice. If you leave him out, I agree flies may develop, as well as maggots.
