Daughter's Bottom Is sore...don't Know Why....??

Okay mamas, I need your help. My daughter (2) won't let me clean her after a dirty diaper. She cries and tightens everything up. She doesn't even want me to look at her bottom but when I do I don't see anything wrong, redness or anything. She was recently on antibiotics and had a diaper rash from it, which we quickly got rid of. Has anyone experienced this? I don't want to take her to the dr. because there's nothing to see, if she even lets them look. But I can't make it better if I don't know what it is. UGH.

Edit: I should have mentioned that I never use wipes on her, just damp Kleenex paper towels. But y'all have me thinking...I recently swapped her apple juice for fruit/yogurt smoothies and that's about the time this started. I'm going to switch back for a couple of days and continue to put lotion on her and see what happens. I really appreciate you all responding. =)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I still don't know what the exact cause was but it has gotten better. I quit giving her the smoothies and went back to her cup of juice so maybe that helped. Either way, we're working on potty training and hoping to be done with diaper issues soon. Thanks everyone for your suggestions....it helps to be able to learn from the experiences of others! =)

My daughter who is 3 and potty trained does this there for awhile she was almost everyday I was putting lotion on her and that did seem to help but I also notice that her bowel movements were pretty big for how little she is so I started giving her more apple juice to soften it up.

She could have a yeast infection which you may not notice since there may not be visable signs. She could be getting those from the antibiotics and taking bubble baths. My daughter also gets really sore if we don't use the moist toweletts because she DOESN'T wipe as good and therefore gets irritated.
I just saw your edit. If it was a yeast infection, the yogurt should have helped it. Has her poop been harder lately? Maybe she's more constipated since she's not having the juice and she's got a tear? I think it's a good idea to switch her back to the juice and see how she does. If this continues, definitely check with her doctor. She might be allergic to that type of antibiotic or it's just too irritating to her bowels and it scares her. Good luck with it. It's like a mystery to try and figure these little beings out!

Is it really sore or could it just be that she remembers when it was sore and doesn't want to feel that again?

Also, could she have a UTI or yeast infection from the antibiotics? I have a boy, but every time he gets a diaper rash, it turns yeasty. At least with boys it stays on the outside and you can see it, lol.

Maybe just soak her in a warm tub a couple times a day?

Good luck!

If it doesn't get better, it may be a bacterial infection due to strep. My son had this in the past and the area wasn't red and he would tell me his bottom hurts but I didn't see anything either. We put him on an antibiotic and used a topical antibiotic and that got rid of it. I don't know how he got it down there. Hope she gets better soon.

She probably thinks it is still going to hurt since she just had a diaper rash. If you truly think that her fears are a result of the rash thent ell her you are going to put on some special medicine before bed that will make all the hurt go away by morning. Make a big production out of it and see if this magic cure(a little Vasaline or diaper ointment)does the trick to ease her fears. Just an idea!

I agree with Emily, sometimes you can get other infections from antibiotics... my daughter got a bladder infection from the antibiotics for her ear infection. So taking her to the doc might not be a bad thing. They can test for other infections to see it that is why she is hurting and treat her for them if she has any.

Also, give her a few warm baths, make sure she is sitting in the water... at 2 mine like to stand & play more then sit. But if they could have they would have taken baths all day & sometimes we would give them a few extras just because there was nothing else to do. Baths never hurt - they can actually be fun.

Also, has her poopoo changed any??? Is it harder then it use to be?? Sometimes if it's hard for them to do it does hurt & can cause little cuts or cracks - but we can't see anything wrong. When my little guy has issues I give him an extra cut or two of juice a day to help the flow so to speak and also use vasiline on him in that area so that it will help to lube it when it is coming out, plus it protects the area from extra moister (which helps the cuts/crack/tears to heal). Sorry don't mean to be gross, but I don't know how else to put it. Usually in a few days he is back to normal & no more crying when he is going or being cleaned up.

Also, maybe for a few day just a warm wash cloth instead of wipes... wipes have things in them that cause little cuts to sting when the liquid on them get into them. Warm wash cloths is just water - which means the little cuts or cracks won't sting if they are there, plus warmth sooths things a little more.

I hope your daughter gets to feeling better & that some of my tips are helpful. Take care!!!

I would guess dry skin. My daughter is really dry right now, especially on her tiny butt cheeks. The wipes burn the dry skin. Start with really mild lotion (cuz lotion may burn some too) & get her skin hydrated. You should see a marked difference in just a couple uses. Good luck!

If you use baby wipes it could be those. Even the alcohol free ones burn. I had run out of toilet tissue and had only them to use, and believe me it burnt. Get some soft face clothes and warmish water instead. You can evenuse cotton wool. I know how you feel. My 5 year old does not like having his bottom wiped either.

My daughter started that at the same age. She had been constipated and when she went it hurt so bad she started holding her stools. She didn't want to be cleaned or examined. It took a while but I just made sure she had white grape juice every day (apple juice made her whole diaper area bright red) and instead of wipes I put her in the tub and used the shower sprayer and a wash cloth. I also kept balmex on her. She just turned 3 last week and she is completely potty trained and does great. It actually helped to potty train her because she figured out if she didn't sit in the dirty diaper she felt better. If she said her bottom hurt we said maybe it's because you need to get the poop out. So we would put her on the potty. Good luck. It's heartbreaking to see your baby in pain!
