My daughter goes through the same thing and I have found this realy great rash medicine you can find it at CVS pharmacy or walmart it is called DR.Smith's and it is a small white round bottle and I put that on my daughter and it works great its kind of pricy because it works so well but I think it is worth it. Hi, when my daughter was about 4 or 5 she got a really bad rash from not wiping right. I took her to the dr and he gave her a prescription of IC H-cortisone/iodoquinol creamm The tube says Hydrocortisone 1%- iodoquinol 1% cream. It was wonderful. I still use it. Good luck. Hope that helps

If it is a yeast infection then she needs and anti-fungal cream. My daughter had a yeast infection a while back and my doc perscribed an over the counter antifungal foot cream Lamisil. Worked wonders we saw dramatic improvement by the next morning and it was gone that evening.
It sounds funny. I know But I have even used it on myself and it is great!

you might want to try California Baby Diaper Spray. I don't know how well it will work on such a serious rash, but I can tell you it works wonders for the start of diaper rash. It smells wonderful, and my 9 month old does not seem to mind a little being sprayed on her bum after each diaper change. I have heard that is also works well for scrapes and cuts in helping them heal. I have never tried that though. I hope it gets better soon! You can buy the spray at Whole Foods, target, central market, or most natural food stores.

My doctor told me "use miracle cream" and I said where do I get that, and he told me "you make it". equal parts of lotrimin, triple anti-biotic ointment (neosporin), and hydrocortisone. Go buy the cheap store brands, and at each diaper change, squirt a small amount of each on your fingertips, mix, and slather on there. When I first did this, my boy had a diaper rash so bad he bled in spots. Within 3 diaper changes it was almost completely healed, and I was never without it since. It has never failed to clear up a diaper rash, and it is much cheaper than fancy creams.

Try Dr. Smiths Diaper Ointment in a white jar with blue writing. My sisters mom still uses it on her and she is 8!(sensative skin) She started using it during teething when the diaper rash was really bad and nothing else worked. Now I use it when my baby gets even a hint of redness and it clears it right up!

My Pedi wrote me a prescription for Silver Sulfadine cream (burn cream). My daughter gets them SO bad and this stuff is a miracle drug. Make sure you put a thick layer on the burned sections. Also, I recommend Dr. Domboro soak. You can buy it over the counter but you have to ask the pharmacist for it.

One word. Aquaphor. If you haven't tried it you should. It is by the face lotions in Walgreens, and Walmarts. It is a staple in our house, and has been since my boys were in diapers. I started using it because of the same thing back in 2000. My son had one so bad that he has scars from it. Aquaphor works. If you don't want to buy the big tub, buy the small squirt tube. It is convenient with moving ones. Good luck.

My little girl has had many diaper rashes, most always they were really bad. She just had sensitive skin. Her DR said at a diaper changing, let her go around without a diaper for at least 5 minutes but over 15 minutes is preferable. Make sure her butt is completly dry before putting on creams. He suggested Dr Smiths. It is expensive, but it cleared it up within a few days. You can find it most places Walgreens, Wal Mart, sometimes Target.

I would go back to the doctor and let them see it. My daughter had recurring yeast infections and the ONLY thing that helped was prescription Diflucan and she had to have a liver study once a month to make sure it wasnt hurting her. That's how strong the meds had to be. Nystatin didnt work. Gentian violet didnt work. Nothing. Just Diflucan. She took it orally and then we used a Nystatin cream on her genitals at the same time. Sooooooooo sad.

I research a way to help my kids and try that for a week. Then I go to the ped and always try their way for 2 weeks and if it doesnt work, I try a new way that I've researched for a week. Then I go back to the ped with the list of all of the things that I've tried and that usually gets their serious attention quickly because they see that you really have been working hard to fix things. They usually come up with something by then because they can see ALL of the things that the problem probably is NOT. Elimination is key, unfortunately.

my now 7 year old always had horrible diaper rash. i would make my own wipes, tried everything in book...dr. smiths worked the best when it worked. the thing that helped the most was potty training. she started training early at 18 months b/c she hated the diapers. she did great too. she knew if she used the big potty her bottom would not hurt. or at least not much. she had to use a pull up at night and that would keep her bottom a little rough but not too bad at all and that we could manage with the dr. smiths. i would really work with her on the potty training.

My son was allergic to certain diapers so we tried several different brands. As far as creams/ointments we had the best luck with A&D Ointment(not the white stuff)and still use it to this day. You might also look into Burt's Bees products incase there is a petroleum sensitivity.
Also, if it is yeast, you might look into her diet. Foods we eat create a breeding ground for yeast in our system. Sugar craving is a sign but that may be hard to guage in a little one. Ask your doc or a pharmacist about this.

Not sure if you've tried other diaper brands - she may be reacting to the diaper too. We used a prescription rash medicine - I think it was "cholestry", somthing like that. It has to be mixed with aquaphor and it works wonders for my babies. When I get home, I'll send you the right name of it. Good luck! Baking soda in a lukewarm bath will help with the soreness/redness.

Is she, possibly, allergic to the brand of diaper you're using? Have you tried using CLOTH diapers?

Also try using GOLDBOND powder after gently washing her tushie and patting it dry. It worked wonders on one of my boys when HE was in diapers....but that was EONS ago *L

If she is still in diapers. you should potty train her. Her diapers she might be allergic to. I am not trying to be ugly but she should be long out of diapers by now. It would be much healthier for her.

I worked with Toddlers for seven years as a preschool teacher and saw a lot of diaper rash. With toddlers many times it is about their systems getting used to table foods and their acidity. Stay away from citrus fruits, juice, tomato, etc... for a while. Put down towels and let her play bare-bottom after an Aveeno oatmeal bath as long as possible, and try this:

Here's my recipe for "miracle butt cream"
1 part Original Desitin, not "creamy"
1 part Neosporin CREAM, not ointment
1 Part Maalox

Mix a small batch and keep it in a plastic tub. It will be gloppy, so stir it before each use. You can also put the ingredients on her bottom separately, but only in this order: Maalox (with a cotton ball), Neosporin, then Desitin. If you see little red bumps add 1 part Lotrimin cream.

You may want to check your daughter's diet. It seemed like when my daughter got a rash it was when she was drinking apple juice or eating acidic fruit like lemons and oranges. We stopped giving her that and it went away. If you do give her juice, try to dilute it with 2/3 water.

During the rash time, you may want to change her diaper every hour to see if that will help. Also, don't use wipes if it is just pee (urine is sterile anyway). Let her air dry between diapers for a bit and at night as well before she goes to bed.

I know using creams for an extended period of time isn't good to do, I hope it clears up soon!

I am so sorry to hear the little one is going through this. A neighbor son had very similar symptons and her pediatrician said it was yeast. Be very careless with chemical based oiments that has not been approved by your doctor. Ask your pediatrician about the possibilty that it is yeast.

That sounds like what my son had, turns out he was allergic to the disposable diapers and the formula he was being fed. It was awful. I changed over to cloth diapers and used Ivory to wash them in and did not use the standard "rubber pants" instead I found some cloth-like diaper pants (well mom found them online) and it cleared up after a few weeks and never came back. To solve the formula allergy we used a soy based formula with NO iron as that was causing part of the problem. I let him run around diaperless as much as possible to "air" it out until it was completely healed.

If you haven't tried Butt Paste, try it first. Every baby responds differently to each diaper rash medication. My first was great on one and it was awful on the second.

Anyway, Butt Paste has some ingredients that are not available in other diaper rash creams. It works well on heat rash - and scary hemoroids. I would also let her run around in big girl panties around the house if you can as the cotton will help "air out" her bottom.

Butt Paste was developed by a pharmacist in LA.

Our boys never had a bad diaper rash but my grandson has. What do you give your daughter to eat and drink? When fighting any kind of yeast infection, it is important to refrain from eating and drinking anything containing sugar (even fruit juice) and starches such as potatoes, rice, bread, crackers, and chips.
Try altering your little one's diet and see if this helps.

My daughter had similar rash at around 3 1/2. Doctor suggested smearing Lotriman cream as well. I did not do that because I knew something changed in her lifestyle to create the problem that she didn't have before. I wanted to know WHY she had the rash. Doctor insisted it was because she wasn't wiping properly. What 3 year old does? She was wiping poorly for months before developing a rash. I knew it was something else. I figured out what it was. She started preschool and began eating more sugar treats for holidays, birthdays, etc. than I ever gave her at home.

Your daughter likely has a chronic candida albicans problem. You should fix this, as it turns into chronic degenerative disease over time that doctors are quite clueless about. They will throw creams and prescriptions at all the symptoms of the chronic underlying disease process that visits her over her lifetime and never fix the disease. Doctors don't know anything about food, that's why they rarely get anybody healthy again. More drugs don't result in health. They also don't believe in candida as an illness.

To fix it, you have to stop feeding your daughter carbs, sugar and yeast. Bad bacteria feeds like crazy off of these. The imbalance creates an immune system response that results in MANY symptoms, including skin problems.

A no sugar diet means: no crackers, cookies, bisquits, pasta, potatoes, rice, pretzels, bread, treats of any kind, juice (even 100% fruit) and no fruit either. I know what you are going to say - but that's all my daughter eats! Yes, I know, that's why she's having a problem. To help ease the burden of the diet initially, I gave my daughter a little bit of low glycemic fruit like blueberries or apples. No banana.

I think the official diet also means no dairy, but you should do more research yourself. The book to get is Candida Albicans by Dr. William Crook?? I think that is it.

It is also important to avoid antibiotics, since these destroy the child's gut immunity as well. Antibiotics are very damaging to the system.

My daughter healed, without the help of any cream or any pediatrician, in about a month or so.

To guard against the problem in the future, I feed her a low sugar diet and give her a good probiotic every day. NO RECURRENCE. And I educate her about her body and the danger of sugar and other bad foods. She is the only one in her school class and circle of friends and family who HARDLY EVER gets sick. Don't underestimate the power of good nutrition.

I would definetly call the doctor again and ask for an appointment. For baths you can try Aveeno oatmeal bath. It is a powder that you put into the bath water. It worked wonderfully for my son. It helps relieve the burning and irritation. Do you use cloth or disposable diapers? I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, but it could. Good luck!

Slath your toddler's bottom in Pepto. I know it sounds nuts, but a pediatrician recommended it to our family, and everyone of us has used it. When you get her out of the bath or at nap time, have your toddler lay down, but up and let the area air. Sometimes even a light breeze from fan can help.

If she had a yeast infection diagnosed by a dr. before and sounds like more of the same, call and get an appointment. Yeast infection can sometimes be warning sign of more serious problems, such as urinary tract problems, etc...

My daughter has sensitive skin. I asked her dr about it last month because she gets rashes very easy. He said there is prescriptions that can help. I also use aquafore when it is real bad or even just plain vaseline. Either one repells the wetness. Dr. also suggested that you mix 1 tube of 1% hydrocortisone, 1 tube of zinc oxide, and 1 tube of Lotrimine AF in a bowl. He said it is comparable to the prescriptions. I haven't had to try it yet, but intend to the next break out. I also have to use the huggies diapers, the others seem to make it worse. I wouldn't try potty training unless she is ready, it will just make her not like it, and harder to train. Good Luck.

My youngest is now 8 and your situation brings back memories!! He had the worst diaper rash that my pediatrician had ever seen. I treated it with a mixture of A&D Ointment (stinky) and a prescription cream (like neosporin but stronger) that we mixed together and spread on him every time I changed his diaper. His case started after a bout of diarrhea, so every time he went it hurt. The skin on his little bottom would bleed. I just washed him warm water and reapplied the ointment. I would try to clean her as best you can with just warm water, using a soft baby washcloth only. The key is to never let the area get wet, air dry it completely before putting more ointment on. If you can let her "air out" it does help, but that is not always practical. Try to keep her completely dry. Your pediatrician can prescribe a lotion that will help. It took about a week for his bottom to heal. I wish you the best of luck!

there are RX creams that you can ask your doctor about also try changing the diapers you use. My daughters could only us one kind of diaper and wipe or they broke out in a raw rash-like state if i did not use the one brand in particular. i dont recall the RX but ask your doctor. and as one of the other responses suggested have them check for staph i work in a dr office and they have been seeing alot of that coming around so have your doctor clean off the creams and powders off your daughter and take a culture swab of that area to check for staph or any other infection that might be there

letting your daughter go without a diaper an hour or two a day is a great idea. try getting a small swimming pool and letting her play in it outside without a suit as well. getting the vit d from the sun will be good for her and the water will be a good way for you to keep her cool if it gets to warm during the time she is outside.

Have you tried A&D ointment? It would be a change from all the thick creams. If that does not work I would go back to the dcotor. Hope it gets better, their little faces just make you want to cry when it hurts like that.

When my kids were small, I would use a real cloth diaper for a couple of days and Lotrimin AD or AF for jock itch. It would clear it right up. The cloth diaper worked becuase it gives your little one a break from the throw away diapers.
Lotrimin works really fast. Also, we would use Corn STarch.

Have you switched diapers recently? Make sure she is not allergic to the diaper (this happened to one of my daughters). Also, I use a prescription called Happy Hiney and it works wonders. Aks you doctor about it. Let us know if it clears up.

Try some hydrocortisone ointment or cream and alternate with lotrimin cream. They also make a athelete's foot powder by dr. scholl's (or whoever), use that on top of whatever cream you are using. The athlete's foot powder and hydrocortisone cream are perfectly safe. Don't put anything "up there". That should work, when it does start working, do if for 3-4 more weeks even after it looks like it is getting better. you can also mix the tube of lotrimin and hydrocortisone in a container and use that and then put the powder on top.
If it were me, I would use the hydrocortisone cream every diaper change for a day or so, and then add in the lotrimin. I learned about this mix from the WIC clinic La Leche League Lady with my first son, there is even a mixture for using on nipples that is safe for baby.

Are you using cloth or disposables? If cloth, did you change detergents? If disposables, did you change brands? It may be an allergic reaction. If you haven't changed brands, allergies can develop. It may be something in her diet. Air is a wonderful cure for diaper rash. If you don't feel brave enough to let her go totally naked, put on a cloth diaper without a cover.

take you child to the doctor and STOP USING CORN STARCH. I learned through my pediatrician that corn starch is just about the worst thing you can put on a diaper rash, and it can lead to yeast infections. Also, trying letting your child air out for a long as possible, it will really help, and change more frequently.

This is a 2-step process. First, let her "air out" by running around the house naked for as long as you dare. Air is the absolute best thing. Second, use a product called "Dyprotex" when you're ready to diaper her again. I'm a mother of 4 (1 set of twins, 1-6 yr old, 1-18 month old) and they would all get really bad, blistery diaper rashes during the teething months. It's really a miracle product and now all my friends swear by it too! Dyprotex is NOT sold at Target or Babies "R" Us. It can be found at Walgreens (and sometimes other drugstores) in the baby product aisle.

You already have a ton of responses, and I am only responding because I have something a little different to add. I had a nightmare with my daughter when she was 3.5 yrs old. I thought the problem was the rash; I thought she had diarrhea and that the fruits/sugar etc. were making the rash worse. After many months of begging the doctor for help and asking everyone I knew about this, it turned out her real problem was that she was constipated. What I thought was diarrhea was really a symptom of the constipation and it was "leakage around the blockage." She had a mental issue about going in the potty and she started trying to hold it back, and that caused the constipation. Finally we treated the constipation with Miralax and wonder of wonders the rash finally ended. When the rash was bad, we treated it with Aquaphor in gobs, kept her without diaper as much as possible, and used warm water to clean (no wipes). So you have a number of things to look into; this is just one more possibility. I feel for you; nothing was worse that watching my girl in pain and not being able to stop it.

I would actually take your child to the doctor and let them see for themselves. If you have already done that, then it is possible it is something your feeding her. Probably some kind of juice that has citrix acid in it like orange juice, grapfruit juice, something like that. Take a look at your drinks and see what they contain in them, also take a look at the foods your feeding her as well. Like maybe if your feeding her certain fruits that have that same kind of ingredient in it.

TAKE her to the doctor, she may have a staph infection, and it needs totally different treatment than diaper rash and or yeast infection.

Is she on any medications? There are some out there that can cause diaper rash. My son always got the "leather butt" with peeling any time he was on medication for his ear infections. We had to use a washcloth/hose down in the shower for him as well as let him be a little nudie for a few hours every day..use a onesie with no diaper on, helps control the "spray" and keep him on the non-carpeted floor. It had to be done so we just dealt with it.

You also need to watch the diaper rash creams. Dexiten(spelling?) has something in that actually burns more than it helps. We used Balmex for our son's diaper rash and it worked in only 24 hours as well as changing his diaper the minute he urinated or had a BM.

Bag Balm, that is what our Dr recommended for our grand daughter. She came for a visit w/ an almost bloody rash. It was horrible! You can find it at WalMart or drug stores. It is what they put on cows udders but it is safe for humans & works wonders! We have found it in the baby section, in the pharmacy & in the animal sections of different stores. It sounds weird but it works!

The diaper cream that has worked the best for both my kids is Dr. Smiths. It comes in a jar, and I find it in the soap and baby products aisle near the pharmacy at Wal-mart. It's about $6-7 a jar, but so worth it. I keep one on hand at all times. In addition to this cream you may want to experiment with different types of diapers. Huggies worked the best with my son, and Pampers worked the best with my daughter. I didn't have good luck with the cheap ones, but it was worth it for me to avoid the diaper rashes.

We had a problem like this for a while and the one thing that really worked was sitting our son in Aveeno Oatmeal Bath, like what you would use for chicken pox, it soothes the skin and its only like $6.50 for a box of 6 packets, I had to get it from the pharmacy but we only had to use one packet, just put a little water in the tub, the oatmeal packet and swish it around, then when he got out of the bath we slathered his bottom in Butt Paste, for a little while we would change his diaper every 45 minutes just to make sure he wasn't sitting in wet diapers, after using the oatmeal bath I think the rash was gone within 2 days. My neice had a terrible diaper rash and my sister took her to the doctor and he told her to sit her in water with DREFT detergent in it for about 5 to 10 minutes. She did and the next day it was practically gone. She did it again the next day and by the next day it was healed up. Plus she let her go without a diaper as much as possible to let her bottom air. Hope this helps it did my neice.

You've had a lot of responses, so I'll keep mine short. Clean the area with water (no wipes) and put Vaseline on it, the diaper as usual (I've never tried cloth so I'm not sure that would help). This sounds simple, but the nurse at my pedi's office swore by this and my son's diaper rash was cleared up in a day or two. Also, if bathing burns, I'd skip the bath and just sponge bathe for a few days. Good luck, I know how frustrating these things can be!

Your pediatrician might try VUSION for your baby. It helped my baby when he had a terrible diaper rash that could not be corrected with lotrimin. You could also modify you child's diet( this might be harder to do). Does she have any allergies? You could consult a pediatric dietician for some recommendations.

My younger daughter had terrible problems with diaper rash that would "scald" her bottom. This was back in the olden days when cloth diapers were still being used at least occasionally,but people were turning to disposables like lemmings rushing to the sea.

Where my older daughter could stand to be in a soiled diaper for a while, the younger had to be changed immediately. We curtailed the cloth diapers and paid through the nose for Pampers.

Our baby sitter was a country woman and suggested using flour that had been scorched in a dry skillet as a dusting powder. It seemed to work in conjunction with allowing her to go bare-bottomed when she was having a particularly bad attack.

Since your daughter is 23 month, it might be a good time to try to introduce potty training and to use pull up training pants instead of diapers.

Children are allowed to have bare bottoms at this age. Putting her loose in the backyard with the pets and with proper supervision with her bare butt flapping in the wind will minimize clean up of accidents and she may just learn what it's all about in the process.

My son had something similar. The dr said it was ring worm. Just in one spot and we did the lotrimin a few times and then I decided it was eczema, which my sister has. Cortizone kids helps a ton! Petoleum jelly does too when it is no too severe, but the cotrizone clears it up in a few days. Hot water will agravate it and it is easy to get ray, esp if she is scrathing. Not sure that is what it is, but worth a try!

My infant son has awful diaper rash as well, so badly that the acids make his skin raw and bleed! I felt so badly for him the first time I saw it. My pediatrician said to make sure I change the diaper more frequently than normal and to use Dr. Smith's diaper rash creme. That's what I've been using for the last few weeks and it has been fine. It is pricey, $8.99 at Walgreens but if it works then it's worth it! I have only been able to find it at Walgreen's too, I think Wal-Mart may have it sometimes but not when I went. CVS carries it as well I think. Good luck. :)

We used Dr. Smith's Diaper Rash cream. It comes in a small jar. Usually can be found in CVS or Walgreens with the other baby items. We also used a combination of Vaseline and Cornstarch mixed together before we found this Dr. Smith's. I have a jar of it now and our son is almost 13 years old. Do you use cloth diapers or disposables? I have heard the #1 cure for diaper rash is to use cloth diapers. I am planning on using a brand called Bum Genius. Also cloth wipes with water rather than disposable wipes is supposed to help too---something about the ingredients in the wet-wipes that are irritating to baby's skin.

Considering it is a chronic diaper rash, YES, I would take her back to the doctor. She could possibly be allergic to a main ingredient in all of the products that you are using. My son goes through spells like this and I know how frustrating it can be for you, as the mother, much less how bad it hurst the child. You could possibly try using a strong medicated cream ( I uses Boudreaux's Butt Paste) and then sprinkle a lot of baby powder on top of the paste before putting the diaper on. I am in the process of trying this technique myself.

when the rash is red and raw, put some liquid antacid on it with a cotton ball. that cuts the acid in her pee and poop before it gets to her skin. I also stand by dr smiths diaper ointment. it is the best...and i've tried them all!

is she having an alergic reaction to her diapers? as for as ointment, try boudreaux's butt paste. you can get it at wal-mart.

My oldest was very sensitive to apple juice until about 4-5 years old. I fed her white grape and pear juice, dilutes to 2/3 strength with water and never had the raw shiny red tush again...until the daycare gave her any form of apples. I could always tell, because the rash would return within 24 hrs. I had to stress over and over - no apples, applesauce, apple juice. Eventually she lost her sensitivity to it.
Good luck with all the advice. I saw a lot of good ideas. Oh, and BOO! to the insensitive woman who said 23 months was too old to not be potty-trained. Every child has a different point at which they are ready, and you are the best judge of when YOUR daughter is ready. Please disregard that particular slam.

My son had bad diaper rash at times. I have a lot of food allergies (I talked to my pediatrian about this and he told me kids don't have allergies-moms know best) I elimated the foods that i'm allergic to. I took him off of corn, corn based products-corn syrup, corn starch etc. i did this for about 7 days then took him off of milk-drinking, food with milk products, stopped eatting at kid friendly resturants, products with yeast. Fortunately we found out he was and is allergic to milk. He is 5 and because i took milk away from him for a long time he can drink whole milk(only the enzymes are still in milk), not a whole lot. he drinks goat milk, chocolate makes he better-all natural. i also cook with whole and rice milk. rice milk is thinner but when cooking with it the taste doesn't change. good luck W.

My son was allergic to the disposable diapers.....there is perfume in them, or whatever is used to help to not be as stinky. I used cornstarch, that helped, but I had to switch to cloth diapers. I know, it sounds awful, but that did the trick. So, for him, it worked...and he was happier.

My 14 month old daughter recently went through the same thing. Our doc said to do the same series of treatments and to push the yogurt. She also said it will take about 2 weeks to clear up and could possibly come back. We have finally realized the problem is directly related to teething. It seems everytime we go through this we find a new tooth in her mouth. I called the doc and she confirmed my suspicion. The infection/irritation is related to teething. You may want to try getting at it from the other end, is she eating something that could be irritating her? For my daughter the culprits were things like OJ, chocolate, milk, grapes etc that can make the BM's burn her skin.

The best diaper rash medicine I've found (and I've tried them all) is Weleda Diaper Care. You can buy it online or at Whole Foods. It will turn a raw,oozing diaper rash into pink skin overnight. I'm not kidding. The other thing that will help is to put a teaspoon of Acidopholus in your child's bottle once a day. That helps with the good bacteria in your digestive tract. Good luck.

It sounds like you trying a lot of things, thats good. My daughter gets really rashy if she has too much of a particularly acidic fruit or too much juice. Perhaps your baby's diet could be adjusted in some way.

You need to have her seen by the pediatrician. It could be that it is not diaper rash or yeast infection but something else. By looking the doctor will be able to pinpoint exactly what is in the diaper area.

She could be alergic to the brand diaper you are using or something she is eating or drinking has extra acid for her body that may not bother others, and just ads to the problem. If she is running around everywhere, you could start trying to potty train, and this may solve the problem completely.

We used Dr. Smith's. It is expensive, but it always cleared up a rash in no time....it is fabulous stuff! My daugther would get a rash when she had too much juice or ate something like oranges, etc.

That is exactly what we went through. It still could be yeast. Yeast tends to come and go until you really conquer it. I would avoid the cornstarch though. We made a paste consisting of equal parts Hydrocortisone (for the itchiness), Lotrimin (for the yeast), and vaseline (to provide a moisture barrier. That should tackle any remaining yeast. The ONLY diaper cream that works for us with regular rashes is Bert's Bees. And we have tried just about everything out there. The Bert's is a miracle in my household. We haven't had any rash problems since switching to that. (For the record it is also the only brand of sunblock that he doesn't react to.)

You might also want to cut out all fruit juices. The acidity in the pee and poop can sting when the raw rash. I would keep doing the baking soda in the tub also, and as you said, be sure she is very dry when diapering. I use regular Johnson's baby powder. Good luck. I know how awful this is for your daughter and for you!

Take her to the doctor!!!. It will take time to heal! Air dry!

this was happening to my daughter as well.
it is very difficult to deal with. I found out that my daughter is allergic to yeast. So when we cut out sugar and added probiotic chewables (walgreens has them) she got much better. You can go have her tested for Candida or just cut out all sugar and bread for awhile to find out. Hope this helps and you find the end soon!!!

Sunshine works wonders on diaper rash. Let her go bare in the backyard for an hour or so each day for a few days. I found that creams made things worse -- they just seemed to keep the skin raw. Change her diaper often, or, if you want, start potty training. Contrary to popular belief, twenty-three months is old enough to potty train. Good luck!

Sometimes, the brand of diaper that you use is the culprit. My son could only wear Huggies brand diapers - anything other brand, it didn't matter what I did - diaper rash was awful and it would get better and then come back with a vengence. So much for saving money - I spent the extra and bought the Huggies. I've heard the same thing from other moms - my sister has her first baby and she can only use a certain brand of wipes or he gets diaper rash. I think she has to use the Pampers wipes. I know it's frustrating because diaper rash is uncomfortable/painful for the child, but if the ointments and treatments aren't working - try changing brands.

Hi L.!! I would try ReNew Lotion...not only does it work wonders (from experience) but it has no toxins or chemicals in it. Check out alot of products in the ingredients it has Q15 or Quaternium 15 - that's formaldahyde (sp?)...which can cause cancer. They use is as a filler and to lengthen the shelf life. I personally am only using the safest products I can find without fillers, toxins and chemicals. My family has been healthier; my allergies have improved, my girls sensitive skin is great! Lots of good ideas posted. Have you tried Arbonne's diaper rash ointment? it is terrific. Also, let her go naked as much as you can. The air will help her heal.

You've got alot of info here and your head is probably spinning. I would have her checked by her doctor. One of my daughters had awful recurring diaper rash to the point of bleeding. We got it under control by putting her in oatmeal baths (Walmart has them too in packets by Equate), putting hydrocortison on the rash, putting her in cloth diapers and changing her ALOT. Once it was under control we slathered her bootie in A&D ointment every time we changed her and changed her alot. That kept her skin protected.
Let us know what happens. I know it's awful and miserable for her.

I ALWAYS use AQUAPHOR as a Barrier and when my son has diaper rashes only Aveno Diaper cream works for him.
My Son has VERY sensitive skin and lots of allergies.

It sounds like an allergy. Try cutting out acidic fruits and see if it works. My daughter couldn’t have strawberries or citrus till she was about three years old. Make sure to change her as soon as she goes to keep her dry and clean. And cover her bottom with a good barrier cream.
However, I would take her to the pediatrician to make sure. Diaper rashes can sometimes be caused by a bacterial infection as well as a yeast infection. She might need a prescription cream.
She is probably a little young for potty training unless she is expressing interest. The prevailing wisdom these days is to wait till 27 months old.

When my daughter was little i was told by several people to use Corona cream. You can find it at feed lots, it's actually for horses i think, but it works! Her pediatritian even said it was good stuff. it's in a big yellow tube.

I see you have a lot of response, so I apologize if I am repeating someones prior advice but the first thing I would do is change diapers to either cloth, or if you're not up to that challenge, try Seventh Generation non-chlorine diapers. If her skin is sensitive the bleach used to whiten most diapers could be causing or worsening the rash.

Also, try making some homemade baby wipes or purchasing the natural and chlorine free brand. I make my own, here's the recipe:

1 tsp natural baby soap (i use Aubrey Organics)
1 tsp olive oil
1/2 cup distilled water
1 tsp aloe
5-10 drops tea tree oil (i would start with 5)

Just mix it all together and get some dye free paper towels or smooth clothes and use that each changing.

My daughter is 5 months and hasn't had a rash so I'm not sure on any ointment to suggest but I'm sure if you added these changes to your routine it would help the healing along.

My daughter was nany for a liitle girl with a similar problem. They found out she was severly lactose intolerant. it was a yeast rash and horrible. Once they too milk products out of her diet the rash went away. Maybe this will help....
