My mom is looking to juice on a daily basis. She's hoping that this will help her to lose some weight and to maintain it. Do you have any suggestions of juicing books that offer great daily recipes?

If you have experience juicing, do you juice only 1x per day or more? What's an example of a recipe? Do you recommend a specific juicer?

Would love any juicing suggestions.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Hi- I got a juicer for Christmas and LOVE it. I don't juice daily, but a couple of times a week. I think in summer I'll juice more, but here in CO produce is still pretty pricey since we're just getting out of winter! I juice whatever is around or in season. My favorite is apple, pomegranate, blueberry, and carrot.

There is a book called The Juicing Bible, it has tons of recipes, and geared toward your goal- weight loss, arthritis, headaches, etc.

And I have the Omega VRT juicer. It's amazing. Wasn't cheap, but I think you get what you pay for in these- especially if she will be juicing daily.

I tried doing the green juice regiment (first thing in the morning every morning) for two weeks and OMG I was so hungry an hour later so I was taking in more calories than if I just stuck with my normal protein-based breakfast. I gained 4 lbs during the course of that experiment. I think my body is different than most though as snacking on veggies/fruit/nuts actually stimulates my appetite =(

The green juice consists of water, romaine lettuce, banana, apple, pear, and celery. I have to say it did taste good but it didn't do much for losing weight and the extra fiber didn't help much in other areas either =)

Oh - I wouldn't suggest buying an expensive juicer unless you are really committed or just have extra cash floating around. I used my 5 year old blender and it was just fine for me. But I don't have problems with texture =)

I have a Vita Mix blender. They advertise to use it for making smoothies which are healthier than straight juice because the drink includes the fiber. The fiber helps to fill one up and so one drinks fewer calories. Juices are high in calories, especially fruit juices.

It comes with a hard back recipe book.

I'd so some research about weight loss, juicers and appliances such as the Vita Mix.

Unless she is looking to also fast and not eat, juicing just puts a lot of sugar/ calories in your body. It's like drinking a soda. This will not help you lose weight!
