P.K.
Well did you ask what the implications are. If I Remember correctly, don't think it would be a problem but I am not the doc.
Has anyone been told that they had a cyst on your kidney?? My dr called and told me today and I don't even know what to think about it... I'm stressing bc I'm already having other health problems..

Call your doctor back. If he/she didn't answer all your questions when he/she called, call back. I'm not at all surprised that you are suddenly thinking of questions now. You were probably caught off guard. This would be the time to start making a list. Maybe you want to give yourself the weekend, keep writing things down when you think of them - questions, concerns, etc. - and call the doctor on Monday.
Did the doctor say what he/she would like to do about it, if anything, of what this will mean to you? It seems odd that a doctor would call you, tell you you have a cyst on your kidney and not give you at least a little information about short term and long term concerns as well as whether or not anything needs to be done now or in the future.
Cysts are usually a mass of fluid or something else (e.g. ganglionic cysts) but are not usually anything dangerous like cancer. Sometimes they have to come out, sometimes they don't. It's really important to learn more - what type of cyst, is it pressing on something else or interfering with kidney function, can it be shrunk rather than removed, can it just remain there, what tests are needed if any, do you need to see a specialist or have some sort of scan, and so on? If you aren't sure, take someone with you to an appointment of have them on the other phone to listen in and take notes.
I'm not sure what your other health problems you have, but I am a nutritional consultant and work a lot with people who have complex issues.
It really just depends. Not to scare you, but my uncle was told he had a cyst on his kidney, but ignored it and later down the line it turned out to be cancer and he had to have surgery and is now fighting cancer.
I was told that I also have a cyst on my kidney and my doctor has chosen to monitor it with an ultrasound every 3 months. As long as it does not grow or change he thinks it will be fine, but has said if it grows they will do surgery to remove it. Of course this could be due to my family history.
I would just think of any questions you may have and either call and talk to the doctor over the phone or make an appointment to go in for an information session. It is understandable to be scared and nervous, but it never hurts to ask!!
Good Luck!!
