Help! My 14 month old daughter is chewing on her crib. Her crib rails are too thick for the plastic crib rail covers and I already tried the rubber sticky cover, which did not work. I thought about tying some old burp cloths around the rails, but I don' t think that will work and it makes me more nervous to have the string on the crib. In certain areas, she has gnawed down to the wood! Any suggestions would be very helpful.
I have never heard of this, so decided to just e-mail this so can see what answers you get. Hope you'll get some good ones
Don't leave her in their when she is awake, make sure you get her out the minute she is awake. But this won't be the only thing she'll bite on. My second child did this to my kitchen chairs, my rocking chair, and the window ceil. I just really had to watch her every minute and not let her in certain chairs or look out the windows.

Pretty simple solution, really. Where will she sleep? With you of course. "My goodness, won't that spoil her?" I could write a book here but I'd rather just cite the most scientifically-backed, fully referenced book about child care. Baby Matters by Dr. Linda Folden Palmer. Get it. Read it. Make your baby happy.
maybe try the no thumb (i think its called) liquid to help a child to stop sucking thier thumbs. you may a few bottles to coat the crib rail well. if anything else like a previous person posted maybe try the bitter bite that keeps puppies from chewing on things (it worked for my dog). but i would suggest taking it to her dr and letting them look over the ingrediants first or maybe even call poison control they may know better then a dr if it will hurt them. good luck sounds like your lil one is teethig big time!
How about putting toys in her crib that are safe for her to chew on? Possibly the vibrating teething rings, teething rings, plastic keys or the like? Another option would be spreading something that you know that she would not appreciate tasting on the wood railing. Of course, it has to be something that is safe for her to eat but a strong enough flavor that she wouldn't appreciate, and it would have to be safe for your wood finish. I wonder of the liquid that you put on children's thumbs to get them to stop sucking their thumb would work?

Does she have other things to chew on?try giving her different chewing toys,wash cloths anything you can come up with that she seems to like.Give teething tablets/she might be doing this to reduce the pain/discomfort of teething/.Get her out of the crib -she is bored and lonely in there! a 14month old needs to crawl/walk and explore,natural things to do for this stage.

She sounds like a puppy!! Is there anything else that you can give her to chew that would be safe in a crib?? If this is the only thing that she chews, it must just be that it is the perfect height for her to chomp on. My neighbor babysat, and a little boy she sat for would chew on her windowsills! Try giving her other stuff and see if she'll chew that.

I've not had this problem in the past with my children but I did have the problem with my dog. They make something called "bitter apple" available at pet stores. You spray it on the surface of what you don't want them to chew on and they get they usually try it once and then stop. I know its safe for dogs so it's probably safe for kids too. It may sound kind of funny to use a product designed for dogs on babies, but if its safe, why not?
