I am looking for a counselor for myself... I am 16 weeks pregnant and have just moved back to the area (I grew up here) after my husband decided to leave me about a month ago. This is our first child and I am trying very hard to stay positive and deal with this in a healthy way. I am living with my parents and they are afraid I am depressed. I am afraid I agree. I have looked on my insurance and there are plenty to choose from, but if anyone has someone they can reccomend, I am appreciative. Any other advice is appreciated! Thanks!

What can I do next?

Check at the school, they usually have a counseling center for free or sliding-scale. Usually the counselors are in training, but highly qualified.

I have been seeing a counselor not too far from where you are. It's about 10 minutes from HEB. Her name is Cathy Snow and her number is ###-###-####. She is great and really easy to talk to! I battled depression after a miscarriage for quite some time before going to see her and she has been WONDERFUL! I'm glad you are seeking help and not trying to deal with it on your own. Sometimes it just isn't possible to do these things alone. I wish you the best of luck and I hope this helps!

I recommend Les Carter in Southlake if he is on your plan. I am in Bedford so feel free to let me know if you need anything. I would be glad to lend a hand or an ear.

My children left home both before they graduated High School. I was so depressed. I started to read self improvement books and they did better then any therapist did. I had one but she turned me on to reading. It gained me self worth and confidence. I was shy all my life then one day I was reading a book that said why would God make you shy? From that day on I became outgoing. I learned to love people and I communicate to everyone. We learn from each other. We are drawn to those like us. If we are sad and are always talking about our pain others disappear. When we are happy then we find people gravitate to us. There is a book 12 steps to happiness. There are all kinds of self books that help us examine why we are and feel the way we do. No one can hurt us unless we let them. I remember hearing once that revenge is being happy. Some times there just is a pain and whole that takes time to heal and it has been 6 yrs since my last divorce. I was devastated with both but this one I love that man more then life. I did every thing for him and it hurts to use up years and energy put into a relationship but every day we suffer and give in to that pain is a day lost to happiness. Do something every day to get well. I did get some kind of mild pill that is not a tranquilizer but did calm me and I did not see a difference but my friend said she did in me. Be glad he is not going to father your child. I left my first husband and he wanted back. I had two children 2 and 3 and half and he left me then. I resented him for years. They say forgive and the shock is hard to get over. But what is worse is not being able to go on. Feeling lonely, trapped as with child you would. Your parents are your life saver and they care more then anyone will. Your well being is the most important thing in a parents life. So read and pray and forgive not for him but to release you from a bondage to him. He is a jerk and we just can not see until years later. Have a wonderful experience with your child and that love will over come it all. Take care and let God guide you. Churches can also help a lot with a body of people who will support you. God Bless G.

Hey A. -

How similar our stories sound. My ex left me within 24 hours of learning that we were pregnant. I am a full-time student at UNT, graduating in December. I moved back in with family after my son was born. I can say, things work themselves out and everything happens for a reason.

Now, almost 4 years later, I am much, much more happy than I would have ever been if I were still with my son's father. I am not a counselor, although I have seen one since right after my son was born, have tried Zoloft and Wellbutrin and they have helped me. I understand that being pregnant makes it difficult, limited ability to take any kind of mood stabilizers, and hormones are an amazing thing.

If you just need someone neutral to vent to, feel free. I have been in your shoes and think that any extra free help is always good. I am in Lewisville.

Best of luck, keep your chin up, and I hope you will reach out if needed. ( :

My heart goes out to you in your situation. I can totally relate as my son's bio-father did the same to me. I don't have any counselor recommendsations but if you ever need to vent I'd be glad to listen. Just know that as tough as it is, you CAN get through this. I have a wonderful 11 year old son who is the light of my life. I was a single mom for awhile and yes, it can be VERY trying. You just have to be able to step back, take a breath and ask your friends and/or family for some occasional help (babysitting so you can get an hour to take shower & clear your head w/o worrying, etc.)

Take care!
