Christmas Gift Ideas for Godparents

On my side of the family the kids give a gift to their godparents (my husband's side doesn't do this). I thought I had the perfect Christmas gift for my boys to give out until I started thinking about it. I was originally going to have my boys give their godparents an ornament with their picture on it. Then I started thinking "Good grief! The godparents are going to have 18 ornaments with ds on it!"

I did do this for my first boy and he's only two, so his godparents have two ornaments right now. I'm planning on giving the ornament to my second son's godparents as he's only 5 months old right now.

Does anyone have a cute idea that could potentially become the standard gift to give? Growing up my parents always got m&m's and popcorn from one of their godchildren and I know my dad liked that idea. My brother-in-law doesn't like popcorn, so I don't want to do that.

I am rather crafty and would be willing to do something.

Any ideas would be helpful!

Thank you for your suggestions. My mom actually showed me what one of her god children gave her when he was little. It's a flour sack towel and my aunt stitched some decorative stitches around it. Then they took a fabric marker and wrote "A Helping Hand from Jeffrey" with his handprints below. I loved the idea and plan to do it for a number of years. I even think I might do one for myself! :)

For my daughter's godmother's b-day, I took a picture from the baptism, a pic from birth and a current one. I got a nice sheet of scrapbook paper and some pink paint and did a hand print. All this I put in a 4 space picture frame. It came out really nice. I think I put wording under the hand print to the point of "hold my hand" or something like that with some nice stickers. She loved it.
I am stuck for this Christmas though I have been thinking about getting her an ornament with maybe a big snowman holding a little one with space to write on it. Just thought about this today so mind is still thinking.

What about a different ornament every year. Doesn't have to be one with your son's picture. That could be cute and memorable. As your son gets older, he can be the one to pick them out.

My mom always got these little christmas designed metal mailboxes filled with candy. It was a neat idea.

Being crafty gives you so many more options. Now, I must admit that I have only a vauge idea of what a godparent is, but I'm assuming that these are people with whom your family shares a close relationship with.?. Every year I make a photo book with pictures I've taken of our family throughout the year. This includes special events (like school plays, holidays and birthdays) as well as everyday memories (like washing the dog or having a tea party). There are many websites to choose from. You just choose your backgrounds, upload your pics and decide on your text. I've used, and had great results, with Wal-Mart (just click on their digital photography option), peek-a-boo, blurb.com and mixbook. It's easy, fast and offers them a collectible they can cherish year round.

For my children's godparents I've tried to do something different every year. Therefore, the internet has been my friend! I've gotten all my ideas by googling "godparent gift", "godmother gift", "Godfather", "Grandparent", etc.

Specifically I have done clay handprint ornaments, recordable ornaments which hold the child's picture as well as being able to record a message from the child - or a baby's laugh from www.holidayvoices.com, godmother/godfather picture frames with pics of the kids, personalized gifts from www.personalcreations.com (a glass jewelry box engraved with "Godmother" and "Love, (kid's names here)" , I've had the kids put their painted handprints on cardstock and then I put them in nice frames, this year I got their Godmother a t-shirt online that says "Fairy Godmother", and their Godfather a T-shirt that says "The Godfather" but it is the actual logo and font from The Godfather movie! Very cute T-shirts!

Good luck!
