I am needing some help I have 2 boys one is 2 years old and the other is 9 months old. My husband and I have tried everything we know possible to get these 2 to sleep all night. If it is not both of them waking up it is one or the other. We have tried music, eating before bed, reading a book, gettting rid of the monsters, stuffed animal or blanket to sleep with, ect... But nothing is working and we are so exhausted anyone have any ideas we haven't tried???? Please help!!

What can I do next?

Good morning C.,

MY 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER DOES THAT WHEN SHE IS OVER TIRED. IF SHE DID NOT GET A NAP THAT DAY AT THE SITTERS HOUSE THEN COMES HOME AND PLAYS REAL HARD, SHE WILL WAKE UP LIKE THAT. I TRY TO GET HER IN THE BED NO LATER THAN 9PM. YOU COULD TRY LETTING THEM SLEEP IN A DIFFERENT ROOM AS WELL.
Keep us posted.

Try leaving a closet light on at night. I have three boys 3-6-9 years of age and my 3 year old will not sleep in his room so he will go to brothers bed with the closet light on and sleep all night.

I'm right here with you, C.!!!

My little one is 2, almost 3, and he just informed me that he is going to stay up all night until his daddy gets home from work!!! (Daddy gets off work at 2:30 am, and usually home before 3)

If Daddy lets the little guy go to sleep at 3:30 tomorrow afternoon like he did today, HE's staying home tomorrow night to stay up with this kid!!!

sheese....I'm gettin' OLD, here, folks!!! >grin< and >groans<

(C., I was 25 when I had my 1st son....he turns 17 9 days before his brother turns 3)

I have never been a fan of crying it out, until recently that is!! I have a 21 month old and a 6 month old, and I swear if it is not one it is the other, and I never get a good nights sleep. It is even better when my 4 year old decides that she is scared, or cold, or hungry...you get the idea! So, with my 6 month old (the most frequent waker) I have just decided to let her cry it out. I admit that I tend to do what is easiest sometimes, and falling asleep in my arms has been the easiest thing for me to do with her, but it has to stop! So, I let her get drowsy, but not asleep, and put her to bed. She of course starts crying the minute she lays down, but I turn on the fish toy, rub her back for a second, tell her she is alright, and out I go. Although many people say to go in every 5-10 minutes, but I find that just starts the drama all over again. So, I have let her cry and it is working! She has never cried for more than 30 minutes, and it always sounds like she is winding down. So last night (after several days of putting herself to sleep) I decide to let her cry at 1:30. Lucky for me she did not even wake up the siblings that she was in the room with. It lasted for maybe 20 minutes, but then she was asleep. She did wake up at 5:30, and I did give her a bottle that time, but she went right back to sleep. So she had a bottle at 9am and then again at 5:30 am. And honestly it is 8:30 am right now and she is still asleep :) The 21 month old is getting better on his own, but he has usually been a good sleeper. It may be a rough few nights, but people tell me that the crying will lessen, and sleep will come. I am holding out hope!! Good luck!! ~A.~

C.,

I feel your pain. My 1 yod is still waking to nurse at night. And my 3 yod wakes periodically. I can't remember who said that the overtired babies wake up more easily but that is so true. When they don't nap well during the day, they don't sleep. Sleep breeds sleep.

Another thing you might look into is pinworms. I know, gross. But my 5 yod had issues for several weeks when she was 2 with waking up. Then one day we were up past bed and my then 5 yod (she's 8 1/2 now) said her bottom hurt. The worms where everywhere on her. I checked her sister later than night and the worms were all over her too. All you need is a flash light in the dark to check for them. If you find, get some tape and stick them to the tape. Then call your dr the next day and they can get you an Rx. You will need to wash EVERYTHING if you do find them.

That said, if it's not worms and it's not sleeping, then it's probably habit. And the CIO may be the only option.

God Bless,

K.
