Child Safe Picture Hooks

We will soon be rejigging ds1s room to put a crib in for ds2 (currently in a bassinet in our room). The room is 9x10 and can fit ds#1s loft bed (IKEA kura) the crib dresser and cube storage unit with room for toys and books under the loft.

We have some pictures up and would like to keep them up but I am wary of pictures over a crib. Are there any kid safe picture hooks or should I just take them down and bring in the spackle.

Thanks
F. B.

I'm confused, isn't the "danger" from falling pictures/frames, not the hooks or nails? I mean how would a baby get up a wall in the first place?
I never had and heavy or glass frames above the crib but that's only because I live in earthquake country, and no bed in our home has anything hanging above it. If earthquakes aren't an issue for you I can't imagine there would be a problem with well secured artwork.

Years ago my husband hung a lovely picture up over our bed. Um, no dear. I do not want to die in my sleep if the thing falls off during an earthquake.

I believe it's bad feng shui to sleep with actual framed pictures over your bed. ;) (not really, ha, but not a good idea. Ever.)

I would take down pictures that will be over the crib. It's just not worth the risk of the picture falling.

I also wasn't sure what you were asking - hooks or what hangs on them, but based on the responses from others, I'll continue along that vein.

I can see why you wouldn't want hard frames with sharp corners, let alone glass, above a crib. Yes, it will be ages before the baby can get up there, but you also have a 5 year old (I think) who may well decide to toss a ball or throw a truck... I know he's perfect (aren't they all???) but still...

I looked at Mykala's link and I think those hooks look great - assuming your older son won't cause anything to break even if the frame itself is still hanging.

But even if you take the pics down, don't spackle - I love the idea below of a quilt. My son's room had some fabric-covered shapes that looked like balloons, but you could do any sort of stuffed or fabric-based decor that just covers up the holes from the old hooks. It's light weight, and requires very little for hooks. Check resale shops if you can manage to get out. You can use 3M Command adhesive - easy to remove without wall damage - I use it for seasonal decor that has to be hung at a different height than the picture hook for the pic I remove temporarily.

I'd go for the least amount of effort!

I have a friend that made quilts for each of our kiddos when they were born. I displayed them on the wall over the crib (not framed mind you). They were (are) too pretty for everyday use.

If, and when my kids have kids, I will re gift them back. Have you something like that that would be pleasing to the eye, yet soft and safe if it fell?

Congratulations on your new baby!

Best!

I took mine down and put up those stick on wall decals. They couldn't peel those off.

The only other thing we ever had over crib was wooden letters like from Pottery Barn. My husband used screws to fit the holes in the back exactly so they wouldn't slip off or be pushed off by toddler hands. So depending on the back of your pictures, screws tightened just so that the pictures can't come off them may work better than nails.

Good luck :)

No, no things over the bed.
