Yes, they are machine washable and take a lot of wear. Once, a buckle broke on our carrier, so we called the company. They sent us a new buckle free of charge - didn't even ask for proof of purchase. I've got to say, I'm not a huge fan of most baby merchandise. Most of it is so unnecessary. That Ergo was WELL worth the money. It's comfortable, safe, hardy, and comfortable for baby/toddler. We used ours everyday, and it would easily last through another child. Also, I'm a fairly tall woman, and it was just as comfortable for me as for a more petite build...hard to find!

I think Ephie D hit it pretty much on the head. Ours is two years old, used everyday, and still looks new. I don't even bring a stroller with me when we go out. We just put the babies in the carriers and go. I've carried our younger baby while we did Gymboree with the older, my husband used to wear our older one out for nightly hikes with the dog every night, giving me some much needed quiet time when I was pregnant with the little baby.

Machine washing is no problem and hasn't worn out mine at all. Just be sure you really know how to switch carries before you try it out in the world. I love all the positions but it can take some practice to get that squirmy baby into, for example, the hip carry. It's completely worth the investment!!!

I am currently using my ergo with my third child an it still looks new. It gets used a lot too throughout the years. I throw mine in the washer and hang dry it. The best carrier, no back pain whatsoever.

Those ergos last forever and wash up great. I would not worry about that at all. They are very good quality. Ours is about 5 years old and is still like new (looks a tiny bit worn but that's it).

Ergos are great -- and you should buy used because otherwise they are SO expensive.
