Looking to get a carrier for our new baby. I've read up on both the Baby Bjorn and the Ergo and they both seem nice. Just can't decide which one to get...Which one is more comfortable and easy to use?

What can I do next?

I had/have both plus a sling. I'm 5'8" and 120lbs (slight) and the baby bjorn just didn't fit me right. I couldn't get it tight enough. Worked great for my husban though. We got the Ergo later my son was at least a year old by then. Fit me and my husband well. I liked that I could do a front, side, or back carry. My son is nearly 4 (and about 40 lbs) and we still use the Ergo when we go on trips. Longer useful lifespan than the Baby Bjorn. I gave up the BB at about 5-6 months of age and started using my sling since I could hip carry my son. Then late switched to the Ergo - could have use it earlier though.

i dont know enough about either to make any judgements about them.

i DO know that the sleepy wrap and the moby wrap (which you can now find at target!!) are VERY comfortable!!!

good luck! and congrats for using slings! :) they are awesome!

Ergos are fantastic! Vastly better than Bjorns and will last you much longer. Don't hesitate to buy one. Mine has been through two kids and is onto its third (my niece) and is still comfortable and in great shape.

Ergo is definitely the best of the two. You will need an infant insert for the Ergo if your baby is under 6 months or so. You will be able to use the Ergo for many years; I still use mine and my youngest is 3 and a half years old! The Baby Bjorn is NOT comfortable AT ALL, and will not give you the many years of wear. I thought I'd put this out there for you to consider: I actually like the Moby wrap best for newborns. It is easy to tie on, and the baby rides snugly against you. You can use the Moby up to about 6 months. Then I'd switch to the Ergo. Happy babywearing!

I used the Bjorn, Moby and Ergo carriers throughout the my daughter's first year. I really liked the Bjorn when she was a new infant and when we were going out for the whole day. It was just really easy to use and to put her in and she was nice and comfy. Around 6 months, she just started to get too heavy and big for the Bjorn so I switched to a Moby wrap I made myself and loved it. it was so comfortable and I could wear her several different ways. It was much easier to use at home since it involves wrapping yards of fabric around you and that's awkward to do in a parking lot- lol.

We then really wanted a carrier to use as she got older so we bought an Ergo which we had heard lots of good things about. However, I am very short and on the heavy side, and it did not work for me at all. I got the extension for the waist belt, so that fit fine, but the length was just too long for me and it really hung hard and low on my hips. I think if you are average to tall height and average weight the Ergo works well, but not if you are short and heavy. My suggestion is to try all three out before you decide! Good luck!

Another vote for the Ergo. When the baby is in the Ergo, the weight goes on your hips, not your shoulders. It's much better for your back!
I have never used the Bjorn (was using the moby when DS was very little, and I loved it) but DS has. He never really liked it. It gave him a back ache, plus he found that the baby was swinging side to side.
Now we both use the same ergo, it's really easy to adjust each time we use it (im a petite woman and DH is tall and wide). DS is one year and I can wear him on my back for a couple hours. Im 19 weeks pregnant, DS is 20 pounds, and I can still use it. I have to admit though that in the last 2 weeks I havent been able to use it for super long periods of time, but I doubt the Bjorn would be any better at this point.
Apparently there is a new bjorn that has a "belt" like the ergo and is supposed to be better for your back. It's way more expensive than the ergo though, and I don't know what the benefits of it would be.

I didnt have a Baby Bjorn but the evenflo version and upgraded to the ERGO. I totally love it. My son will be 1 on Wednesday and I can still use it, he weights close to 23 lbs and I'm not a large woman (122 lbs and 5'6"). It is truly worth the money, I can't wait to start carrying him on my back more. I personally thing the ERGO is more versitile than the Bjorn.

It depends on the baby.
I have a bjorn (which I am using because my little guy HATED our wrap) that has worked out marvelously since he was able to face out. However, he's 18 pounds at 4 months (probably more now) and I wish I had a carrier that could carry him facing out with a higher weight limit.
I've never used an ergo but have heard nothing but amazing things about it. You can use it basically indefinitely while your child is of age to be carried around. It would not work for us because my son HAS to be looking out.
My advice is to start using them sooner than later. I didn't try to put my daughter in a carrier until she was 3 (or more ?) months old and she hated everything I tried, but she needed to be held a lot. The sooner it seems normal, the less resistance you'll get.

I tried a few different carriers with my son, He was colicky and always wanted to be held. We loved the Ergo! I thought it was the most comfortable, and it was the only one that my son seemed to like. It's true you can use it much longer as well and the back carry position is great.

I used the Moby Wrap until my son was about 3 months old, then switched him over to the Ergo which I love! He's 21#, and I still carry him on my front, although the Ergo is nice because they can ride on your back too. My friend has a 1 year old who rides on her back in the Ergo quite a bit.

I used the Bjorn with my first son, and would get back aches within 1/2 hour, and he was just a peanut. I've carried son #2 in the Ergo for up to a couple hours, and have not had a problem with back pain. The Ergo is also very easy to adjust. So if you're looking for something that you'll be able to use as the baby gets heavier, I would recommend the Ergo.

I have both. I registered for the Bjorn and got the Ergo from a friend. Personally, I think the Bjorn feels more secure for an infant, but the Ergo seems better as the baby gets older. I think over 20 lbs would be tough to carry on the front.

The Ergo will last you a lot longer. You can carry a much bigger child in it and it's a lot more comfortable. it can be worn on the front, back, or hip. I know many people who put three year olds in it.

Well, it seems like most of the people who have responded so far have said Ergo. I agree. I love the Ergo. I have back problems and it never hurts me to carry her, and I've carried her for long stretches at a time.
I used the Moby wrap until she was about 8 months old. However, my husband was the one to buy the Ergo carrier because he thought the Moby wrap was too girly for him to use. He started using the Ergo on her at three months (maybe a few times before).
My daughter is 13 months now. I've carried her on my back a few times. And have just started using the hip position. I find all positions to be very comfortable.
I really recommend a Moby wrap for atleast 0-3 months. Your new baby will love the snuggly aspect of that carrier. I carried my daughter practically all day in the Moby. She always napped on me. I actually never put her down for a nap on her own until she was 6 months old. She is a fantastic sleeper; at 6 months she started sleep through the night. I believe that babywearing will make you baby feel extra confident and secure. And if you wear them a lot we the are little they will be used to it. I went to the zoo with a friend when my daughter was 9 months old. I didn't have a stroller so I carried her for 5 hours. (In the Ergo; no discomfort at all). My friend was shocked that my daughter didn't fuss at all. She said her son would never let her carry him that long.
I've never used a Baby Bjorn so my opinoin is just based on what I have observed. I don't like the way the baby dangles in the Bjorn. The Ergo supports them in a way that they are really sitting. In the Ergo your baby always faces you, not out like the Bjorn. I like that. The baby can still look around.
You asked about ease of use. The Ergo is very easy to adjust straps. And if we are out and about it is very easy for both my husband and me to use the Ergo. It is easy to adjust to fit your body.
I recommend the Ergo carrier!

The Ergo can be uses for longer, because it supports more weight. I feel more comfortable wearing the Ergo, personally!

My first recommendation would be the Maya ring sling for your newborn. My son is 5 months old and I still use it. Until he was 4 months old I would put him in "froggy" style facing me, so his legs were tucked up (like a frog or kangaroo). This is the most natural way for them to be positioned. Now that he is going on 5 months I still use the sling, but it just goes under his butt and back so his legs are out. My husband said the ring sling was too girly, so we got the Ergo for him. The Ergo is wonderful especially when they get older, but I personally prefer the Maya ring sling while they are young. I also had a Moby which I thought was okay around the house, but I hated putting it on if we were out in public because the tails dragged on the ground as I was tying it. I could put my son in his ring sling so quick, that I never kept him in his car seat when I went shopping. He would sleep against my chest as I was shopping and gave me more space in the cart since I didn't have his car seat in there.
Stay away from the Baby Bjorn. Not only is it really bad for your baby's hips, but when they face forward they can get over stimulated at a young age. Good for you for looking into babywearing. There are so many wonderful benefits.
