Bruising on the Belly

Has anyone experienced bruising on the belly? I found a big bruise on the side of my belly and I know I didn't bump into anything, or anything hit me. I showed it to my doctor yesterday and she says I'm probably getting very sensitive.

I had a friend whose baby was kicking her and she was developing bruising from him kicking her so hard; she had bruises ALL over her stomach. He was born over 10 pounds!

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah actually my grandma had bruising on her belly when she carried my uncle. He was 4th of her 6 kids. My grandma was 4'10" and my grandpa was 5'10" and all the babies ended up being very big. It is hard on a small body with a big baby. He was delivered very quickly though and without much trouble. I hope that helps. It is real it's not in your head that your baby could be kicking you that hard. You may want to up your iron if you are feeling weak. In other circumstances the most likely cause of easy bruising is low iron.

My son was born about 10 pounds, and before he was born, i was bruised on the inside of my belly, but there were no visual marks on the outside of my skin. i'm not sure how it could show all the way on the inside, but its probably possible. i do remember when i was pregnant, i bruised very easily. babies suck all those vitamins out of you, maybe that has something to do with it. I wouldnt worry about it in the meantime. although repeatative bruising hurt, they wont hurt the baby or cause any real damage to you.

I had bruising too, but for me my Dr, explained that with everything being sretched out for the baby it doesn't take as much to bruise the belly. So even if you don't rember bumping into something its still a possibility. (P.S) this only happened with my second child not my first)

I had that too. I actually couldn't see the bruises, but felt bruised. I was told it was from the kicking of the baby. Mine was a wild man; 8 lbs 6 oz.

Hi O. (I actually grew up in Bensenville :)

I have a book called Is This Your Child? By Dr. Dorris Rapp, she states that babies that kick wildly to the point of bruising are reacting to the foods we are eating, often showing up with food allergies later on in life to those particuluar foods we eat and they are reacting too. She also discusses babies reacting after chemical smells too. It is very interesting. So take notice to what you are eating and see how the baby reacts to it. My midwife said the same thing about baby's reaction to foods on how they move. That is why they tell you to drink orange juice if you do not feel fetal mvmt, the sugar will get them going.

Good Luck, you can buy the book on Amazon, it is a must on our bookshelves.
