Great resource for breastfeeding moms.
How do you know what medicines are safe to take while breastfeeding? I have a little cold and this cough i have is driving me crazy. Are cough drops safe? Anyone know of a website with info or am i just gonna be stuck calling my doctot or lactation consultant?
thanks for the suggestions. i ended up calling my hospitals nursery. I was told by the nurse cough drops are fine and so are cold meds just to try to stay away from decongestants that can dry up my milk.

The very best book is Medications and Mother's Milk 2010 by Thomas Hale.
They also have a hotline you can call with any medication questions in regards to breastfeeding. Amazing source!!

Call your pharmacist...they are going to be able to tell you what you can take that won't cross over into the breast milk. My daughter tends not to take a lot of meds...since she is breastfeeding...but sometimes you are just so miserable that you need something to help.
Your pharmacist is going to be a great, reliable source of information for you.
.
do you have a nurses line you can call?

Cough drops are safe and so are most cough suppresents like Robitussin. I breastfed for a year and had quite a few colds, and never had problems with taking medication. Just stay away from Sudafed like medicines.
