My nephew's birthday is right around the corner and he loves animals. He wants to be a vet when he gets older. Does anyone have any good books (with lots of pictures as well as words) that they can recommend?

Thanks!

A year subscription to Zoobooks! I still have mine from when I was a kid to share with my children.

There is a whole huge series of chapter books (for early readers) called the "Animal Ark" series and it's about a veterinary practice! It is not a picture book series but because it's about vets and each book features a different type of animal, he will probably adore it. Get him a bunch of different ones. An adult can read him one whole book in just a sitting or two; they're not long.

My parents bought my kids this book http://www.amazon.com/Life-Size-Zoo-Gigantic-Elephants-En... It's awesome because the pages fold out to the real life size of each of the animal heads. It gets used a lot at our house and my kids are 3, 5 & 8:)

Another great choice is a book by National Geogrphic. My daughter also wants to be a vet and loved ZooBooks. She also loves a book I got at a bookstore from National Geographic. It has all kinds of little facts about different types of animals, including some trivia items. She still looks at it at 13 yrs old as she has "outgrown" Zoobooks.
