I was thinking about National Geographic kids and Ranger Rick

I still have my Zoobooks from when I was a kid. I love them! My church has a magazine for kids called The Friend. (it's not doctorine filled, just good morals, stories, object lessons, pictures, crafts...)it's only $8.00 a year! Or I can subscribe it for you (I still have many of my childhood Friends too!)
Hi, A.,
We had a subscription to NG Kids, but found it to be full of ads and a lot "fluffier" than we expected. Discover Kids is much more substantial, IMHO.
We also like Zoo Books and Highlights, and plan on trying out Calliope.
Have fun!

I don't know if they still have them, but I used to LOVE the Zoo Animals Mag subscription my grandma gave me when I was younger.
Hi A.,
Ranger Rick is great. The same company (Ntl Wildlife Federation) also does My Big Backyard which is very age appropriate for your 5 y/o.
Another one my kiddos enjoy is Kids Discover http://www.kidsdiscover.com/
Instead of toys we have started asking for magazine subscriptions for b-day presents from Grandma. Love it!

American Girl puts out it's own magazine. My niece (a very mature 8 yr old) loves it.
http://store.americangirl.com/subscribe_ecomm.html
It gives good PC advice on style, trends, crafts, boys, and their changing bodies. Also contains stories and, of course, lots of Amreican Girl and Mattell product adverts.

What I subscribe to isn't a magazine, per say, but it is an age appropriate kit sent once a month. www.brightervisionslearning.com
They will send you a kit that's customized for the age of your child. In the kit there is a workbook, a craft/activity, and a story book. ALso, there are stickers and sometimes a CD/Tape.
I've been subscribing since my son was a year old and he's five now. We love them!
Also, I think Turtle magazine goes from Pre-k to K and also HighLights magazine is good. That was my favorite as a child
Ranger Rick is good with little stories to read. Also there is a Lady Bug as well. Might be a bit young for your daughter. Go to your library and look thru them. They will have several to chose from including Sesame Street and Disney.
Hi A.,
The National Wildlife Federation has a magazine for kids called Wild Animal Baby (http://www.nwf.org/kids/kzPage.cfm?siteId=1) that looks interesting and there is also ZooBooks (http://www.zoobooks.com/) that looks good, too.
My daughter is only 10mo, so it might be a while for us! But I see the NWF's magazine in the materials they send me and I want so badly to get it and Ranger Rick. I guess I'll wait until she can actually read, though. :-)

Highlights is a great mag for kids.
Highlights magazine is a classic for my 9 and 7 yr olds! www.highlights.com we love it and I got these mags as a kid too! animals, stories, art by kids your age, and more!
