The very *best* place to go is down in Ennis, they have amazing fields of bluebonnets. However, you might find decent fields across from Frito up in Plano off Legacy.
I saw bluebonnets for the first time yesterday! I want my family to go out to take pictures in the bluebonnets (I'm working on a double frame thing with a photo of my mom and me at 18 months old in them, and now MY son is nearly 18 months old and I want a pic of the 2 of us, too!)....WHERE is the best place to go? I'd be "dragging" my husband, so I don't want to waste time driving all around and not finding a good place. Advice?

A few years ago I took college graduation photos in the bluebonnets off highway 114 and Cistercian road. This location was nice because the bluebonnets are on an incline or hillside, so you don't have to worry about ugly things in the background (like telephone poles, roads or electrical wires). You can find the perfect place to sit and be surrounded in the entire photo with bluebonnets. But, I haven't monitored this area for recent bluebonnet growth, so it may not be as spectacular as it was back then. Also, I'd wait another week or so before you go out for photos. That way they'll be at their peak and prettiest.
My favorite place is Meacham Blvd and 35w in Fort Worth. On the east side is a big open field and it isnt directly on the hwy so it is safer.
Try the state website. Many enthusiast report their sightings here. http://www.dot.state.tx.us/travel/flora_conditions.htm
Just fill in bluebonnets and your county. Good luck.
Our family went out for pictures this past wknd. We took Sarah's advice and checked out Cistercian Rd. off of HWY 114 in Las Colinas. We loved it! It was quiet and peaceful with a small hill of bluebonnets - great for an intimate setting. We loved that there were trees and scenery surrounding it too! Take the road to the right, up to the Catholic school. Park and walk up under the big white metal road sign.
However, if you're looking for a HUGE open field of bluebonnets, we found that as we were leaving! If you're driving east on 114, take the O'Connor Exit and turn left. Then turn left on Las Colinas Blvd. The field is where the road dead-ends. Several families were out there that day! Good luck!!! :)
