I second seeing a doctor. He/She can help get to the bottom of this. Put it on the list tomorrow :-)
I wish I knew what was going on. I'm so frustrated right now!
I've been so bloated over the last week and half or so that I'm actually starting look like I'm pregnant! I wake up in the morning and I don't look so big, but after I eat my first meal...WHAM! I'm looking like I'm 3 or so months pregnant. (Which for me is a good little belly, considering I've had several children now and start showing early.) And it just gets worse through out the day. By the end of the day I look like I'm 4 or 5 months pregnant.
Ugh, anyone else deal with this?
I'm trying to lose weight and the scale isn't budging. I'm not gaining, but I'm not losing either.
Any ideas?
Martina, I'm a vegetarian. I don' t eat processed foods. I only drink water and the occasional glass of milk and juice. I also have kidney issues, so I'm very careful about what I eat and drink. 75% of what I eat is raw vegetarian.
I went to the doctor and he ran some tests. I also have another appointment with my nephrologist because he's worried it might be kidney related. I'm supposed to be drinking 9 pints (yes, pints) of water a day. The doctor asked me to make sure I'm drinking at the very minimum 9 pints. He says if I can get in more than that, he thinks it would be beneficial. Two days ago I managed to get 10 pints in and yesterday I got 11 in. I'm not bloated at all anymore. (And I do add lemon to some of my water, but not all of it.)
Thank you all for your input. I'll keep you updated.

Looking five months pregnant isn't normal. Can you see your physician? I can think of some things in my crazy, scientific, laboratory background but I don't like to play internet doctor. See the doc.
See a doctor there could be a number of different causes. And, please don't take baking soda as one response suggested. It can throw your electrolites out of whack and cause irregular heart rhythms
Dealt with this most of my adult life. Replace real (hard) fibers with soluble fibers (psyllium or similar). Veggies can be really hard on the intestines, they are a natural bowel irritant. Try. Good luck.
Please go to the doctor.
Have you ever visited a Naturopathic doctor and been tested for food allergies and intolerances? I had horrible issues of bloating, gas, stomach pain, etc. (to the point someone even congratulated me on being pregnant/expecting--when I wasn't!). After I had a test to check for food allergies and intolerances--and discovered what foods didn't like my body--and started supplementing for nutrients I'd lost due to Leaky Gut Syndrome--the bloating went away! Yeah, me!
Even after taking away the foods that don't like me, I still take a Digestive Enzyme AND a GlutenEase supplement every time I eat. And they help my digestion enormously.
Even drinking water made me bloat up like a whale. Now I can drink my recommended amount of water every day and not have to worry about bloating.
I am not a vegetarian but I eat organic and have an food allergen-free lifestyle.
I would take that route and see what you come up with.
drink some baking soda disolved in warm water when you get bloated.
I had the same issue. I tried a lot of things until I stumbled on the below mentined web site and figured out that I was not going to the bathroom as often as MY body needed me to. I drink warm/hot lemon (organic) water every morning and it has stopped my bloating.
You don't say if you feel uncomfortable. ? I would definitely say make an appointment with a doctor to be on the safe side. Especially since you mention the kidney issues. Could their be some water retention due to that?
I do the same thing if I eat wheat and dairy. Finally read the book Eat Right For YOur Blood Type (just look in the back at what is good for you and what to avoid) and I dropped 15 lbs immediately. (I'm Type 0) If I slip up and eat those things I am bloated. There is an article inSpirituality and Health that you can access online I think or google this topic called Wheat Belly. Some people cannot give up certain things but to me nothing tasted as good as being slimmer and not feeling bloated.
After my third I found myself looking really pregnant still. I've been doing pilates and other ab strengthening exercises and it's finally helping. My third was sideways most of the last trimester, finally staying head down just in time. She caused more damage to my upper ab muscles than my other 2, but when you put all of it together it adds up.
Not having regular time to exercise it's taking me some time but I can see progress.
Might be something to try.
Do you do core strenghtening exercises? Lot's of people who have back problems or weak cores have protruding bellies.
What are you eating for breakfast? I found, a while ago, that I could no longer have milk in the morning. It made me feel terrible all day. Since then, I have been to a GI doc that told me to cut out dairy completely. Now I only eat yogurt, cheese, and a little half and half in my coffee. And not much of those. I also cut out wheat as much as possible. I feel MUCH better.
You can try products like malox or gas x and see if they help. Or, you may just want to go see a GI doc. There is something going on in your gut that needs to be taken are of.
Good Luck
