Try those flat jewelry separators that are lined in velvet (Bed Bath and Beyond or Walmart). You can stack them on top of each other in a drawer and have plenty of space for individual pieces. They come with different sized compartments.
Hi ladies - how do you store your jewelry so it's easy to access, earrings are together, necklaces are not tangled, etc.? I don't have a lot of space so the stack of jewelry boxes is annoying, the box of earrings gets mismatched, the necklaces hanging on the back of the door clank every time I close it. I bought shadow box type frames with doors where you can pin necklaces on the inside padding to organize neatly, but they don't really allow for longer types. I end up with this mismatched hodgepodge of receptacles and wondered if there's some great way to keep it all straight and easy to spot that looks nice in a small space. Do you have a system you love?

I've actually been looking at this because storing jewelry has been an issue with me, too. Currently I use a combination of a hanging jewelry bag from TJ Maxx, a regular hanger for long necklaces and two jewelry boxes. I'm thinking about getting a jewelry armoire, but I need to be able to put it on wheels so I can put it into our closet when the cleaners come. I lock the closet door when they're here. I wear my jewelry on a daily basis so I like to have easy access to it. Unfortunately our closet is not big enough to store an armoire inside on a permanent basis. Try looking on Pinterest to see some options. I really love the jewelry trays that are embedded within built-in closet systems. Having a nice, wide tray where everything is laid out seems like the best option for me, just not one that is feasible with my current setup. Good luck!
My mom just showed me how she stores her jewelry - in a fishing tackle box! The sections keep things separate and mess free. Hers is small with one side in square sections and the other in longer rectangles, but I've seen larger tackle options online, including some where you can customize the compartment size.
I also have a jewelry armoire. I love it. I used to have a chair in the corner of my room that I'd toss clothes onto...I got rid of the chair and put the jewelry armoire there. Everything has a place and it doesn't take up much room.
I have a free standing jewelry case. It was a gift, but I don't think it was terribly expensive (less than $100 for sure). It is like 3 ft high and has spots to hang necklaces, earring compartments, ring compartments, etc. Plus it gives me a handy spot to put personal items like scarfs and stuff. My daughter bought a corkboard and hung it in her room and put push pins (the kind with the big plastic head) on it and hangs her long necklaces from it and then just has a jar next to it on a shelf with all her earrings and rings in it. We are equally happy with our set ups :)
Hope you find something that works for you!
All of my earrings are on earring trees (yes plural..I have a lot of earrings!) I have one of those beautiful standing jewelry boxes where a lot of my jewelry goes. I also have some necklace trees (one is actually made to look like a tree with twisty-turny branches to hang every thing on).
My best suggestion is to go online to The Container Store and look at what they carry. I love them! Some of my other things I got online on ebay.
I have a ton of jewelry that I wear on a regular basis. Some of it is costume type jewelry and some of it is "the nice stuff".
I have a freestanding jewelry chest and I hate it!
Best thing I've found are the fabric coated shallow trays with different size compartments in them...I have two shallow top drawers in my mirrored dresser and the trays are in those. Open a drawer and it's all easy to see.
(The really good stuff stays in boxes, away, until I want it.)
I got mine at Marshalls or TJMaxx.
My girlfriend keeps her necklaces in what I'd best describe as sheer sausage casings. They are made of sheer cloth, and have draw strings on either end. You drop the necklace inside, draw the strings right next to the clasp and again on the other end. Clasp shut. Now you've got a necklace that doesn't have any loose bits flying about to get caught on something else. She then puts the whole necklace sausage in a small pouch and job done.
Best,

Jewelry box, in our safe. I don't have a lot of jewelry but it is nice. The box has hangers for necklaces.
I don't wear much jewelry at this point.
What's valuable we keep in a safe.
Costume jewelry I have in a few small boxes.
It's worth it to clear out what you don't wear anymore - or at least put your lesser used items aside so they don't clutter up your usual choices.
There are a lot of jewelry armoire choices out there.
Shop around and see if there's a model that will help you organize your collection.
I have a freestanding jewelry box as well, but it's smaller than what Starr has. It has 2 drawers which are great for bracelets and pins, and 2 glass doors with rotating racks for necklaces which doesn't work at all with the long ones. I have a separate earring box with little slits for sticking in the wires or posts, which keeps the pairs together. These were gifts so I use them, but they aren't necessarily what I would choose. I'll be interested in reading responses to get new ideas!
I found some cute things on this site that are similar to what friends have used: http://www.luckyshops.com/slideshow/jewelry-organization-...
One shows a small branch with multiple "arms" - a friend spray-painted it and stuck it in a ceramic pot with some florist foam on the bottom, then decorative stones to cover the foam. (All from the craft store.) The long necklaces hang on these branches - easy to see, and working as a decor item when not in use.
I've also seen a drawer organizer (like for silverware but without the specific shapes for spoons - just rectangles and squares). You can find them in container stores too - they are often sold as organizers for the standard kitchen "junk drawer".
I've seen some people use a wire grate, similar to a cookie sheet rack, or a piece of screen in a frame - you can also find those things in a craft store. The screen/rack stands up either its frame or on one of those easel stands, and then earrings and necklaces can be attached.
One other little trick I've seen is to use a pencil eraser to replace a missing earring back. Put the post through your ear, then break off an eraser and push it on the back. Not ideal, but it works when people like me lose the backs because our jewelry isn't organized!!
