Anyone have a recommendation for a good (under $200) flat iron? I have straight hair but like to use it to take any ponytail bumps out or when my sister with curly hair visits.

This one is the best. I paid more for it at my hair salon though. :(

CHI's are being made very cheaply these days. My MIL had to have hers shipped off and repaired 4 times at her own expense.

I have ringlets I wear straight (glossy straight, glossy wavy, glossy big curls)... all need to be achieved with a straight iron. I swear by mine, I'm that unwilling to lose it. LOVE IT.

What kind do I use?

ANY straight iron that is 1 inch or less in diameter and goes up to a minimum of 430 degrees and has beveled edges. The small diameter allows you to go into the roots, and allows you to use it as a curling iron as well. I've used dozens of straight irons. If they have the heat potential (430+), they work. If they're beveled they keep your hair from bending/breaking. Biggest trick: set high and swipe ONCE rather than lower and keep making pass after pass.

Now... I also have super curly hair, so it may not be applicable, but I ALSO use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum as a heat protectant / humidity protector. INVALUABLE.

There are many good ones, but just make sure the one you bought is ceramic. Those are best for your hair and last a long time. Metal ones damage your hair so bad.

Exactly what Molly said. Babyliss all the way. Two of my friends own salons and this brand is all they use. The Chi's are over rated and poorly made...I know a lot of people who had theirs die after only a year. My daughter's hair is long, thick and curly and she can straighten it with the Babyliss in 15 minutes.

I will second the suggestion of a CHI. I just bought one for my daughter on the ULTA website - it was on sale for $99 (usually $149).
