Good Flat Iron?

This is a minor thing. But, I'm looking for a good flat iron. I don't care how much it costs! I have naturally curly hair and of course like to straighten it out most of the time! What I've been told is that my hair is 'fine' but I have a lot of it. I would like something where it doesn't damage the ends either. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi M.,
Per my hairstylist recommendation, I picked up a Super star (5 stars in place of the word "star" on the iron), and it has worked wonderfully on my very thick hair. I think that I paid $60 on e-bay a few years back and it was well worth the money! Good luck!

I have the same hair. I use a large round brush, I think it is a 4 inch. I wash my hair at night and in the morning when it is dry I just use the round brush with my blow dryer, I don't even have to use styling products with it. It only takes abotu 10 min to straighten my hair this way.

M.,
I have frizzy, natural curly hair and I've tried several different irons, I'm sure just as you have. Well about 5 yrs ago I went to JCPennys to have my hair cut, and usally when I go to places like that I will have them straighten my hair as well. They used this iron called a Chi. I fell in love...my hair has never felt as good as it did. It was not fuzzy at all and not to mention super soft. So I would highly recommend the Chi to anyone, oh and it doesn't damage the ends of your hair at all. Although I do use Bio oil when i use just because my hair is really dry and that helps condition it as well. They do run about $120 to $140 depending on where you go. hope this helps and its worth every penny!! thanks K.

I would highly recommend the Maxi-glide. I saw it on an infomercial about 4 years ago and bought it and have used it ever since. When I got it, I had hair that was well past my shoulders, my hair is zig-zag curly - crazy thick and very course, I could straighten my whole head in about 45 minutes. I now have a shoulder length bob and can do it in about 20 minutes assuming my hair is dry.

Here's the link: http://www.folica.com/Maxiglide_Hair__d1778.html

Good luck - anything that makes you look great and doesn't take much time is a winner in my book!

Get a ceramic flat iron! They are the best. I don't have a brand to recommend, but you will love whatever brand you choose.

I have CHI flat irons and absolutely love them. I researched online before buying them and it was between the CHI and the GHD, they both have great reviews. I chose the CHI because they were much cheaper, they run around $80 - $100 but are well worth the money. Mine are the 1" ones which work great with my hair. They have two heat settings and heat up in about 30 seconds, I love them!!! If you do a google search, just put in CHI flat irons and there are loads of places you can get them. I can't remember where I got mine but it was an online store. Oh, and if you're worried about damaging your hair the same company do a serum to put on which protects from the heat. I haven't tried this, I use my irons about 3 times a week and my hair is still healthy looking.

I just asked my hairdresser the same question Monday! She recommended a ceramic one. She said Sally's has one for around $75 she thinks. The salon was selling their's for $100! They are slimmer and the ceramic material adds shine to your hair I guess.

M.,

I too have naturally curly hair and use a BaByliss flat iron. It has ceramic plates and has different heat settings (I use the highest one because my hair is thick and coarse). I've been really happy with it and it works really well, especially when I do my hair in sections with it.

I think I paid about $60 for it, but it was through a hairdresser who bought it for me with her discount, so I'm not exactly sure how much it would be.

Hope this helps!

My hair sounds similar to yours, it's very curly but straightens pretty easily. I have a flat iron from Sally Beauty Supply that works great. I think I paid about $50-$60, it's one of the generic Sally brand ones.

Hi M.,
I purchased the Sedu Ionic 1" flat iron for Christmas last year and I love it!! (I was sick of buying the cheapy ones at the store and having them die out a few months later) I don't have super curly hair but my hair has a wonderful wave to it that is hard to straighten. Here is a link to the website where I purchased mine http://www.folica.com/Sedu_Ionic_Cera_d1557.html (I found that they had the best price, plus they extend the manufacturer's warranty at no extra cost). You can also check out Sedu's website http://www.sedubeauty.com/ which highlights all of their different flat irons. Hope this helps!

Hi M.:

I have naturally curly hair too. I've actually learned to love my curly hair by using products through this website: www.ouidad.com. I especially love their Heat & Humidity Gel.

But when I do straighten my hair, I ended up buying the flat iron my salon uses. I bought it directly from them for around $100. I know that's expensive, but I was sick of flat irons that just really didn't work! I've had it for several years and it still works great. It's called the Professional Record Plus Elchim flat iron. I "Googled" it just now, and several websites came up. This is the first one, but you could probably shop around online and find it cheaper.

Good luck from a fellow curly top!

I also use a flat iron. Keep in mind that ALL hair products damage hair, just some are worse than others. What you want is to find a ceramic one. I got mine from online....they sell these at kiosks in the malls too. You don't want one from cvs or rite aid...places like that.

Definitely the CHI. It's a little pricey, but I just love it! It has ceramic paddles, so it won't burn your hair and makes it nice and smooth! Good luck with your search!

Hi M.,
I just purchased for my daughter and myself the "InStyler".
I was watching a infomecial one night and this product caught my eye. Me and my daughter both have thick curly hair, my daughter a little more so. Anyways I was watching the demostration and liked what I saw. It finally arrived two days ago and I immediatly had to try it out. Let me just say after using it my hair was not fryed in the ends, I didn't have iron marks and my hair was soft and natual looking. It has 3 heat settings, and A barrel that can turn in a left or right position to do curls or not at all. The other side has a brush that helps to pull your hair throght. Very confortable and easy to use. I followed the instructions and couldn't be happier, I'm no longer wasting my money on flat irons that claim to work. Here is the web address that you can go to to see the product for your self. www.getinstyler.com I hope this works for you.

The Conair Geometrix (sp?) has several attachments. The one to give angel hair can be flipped around for straightening.
I haven't seen anything since. You could also look on ebay.

Hi there M.. I bought one online for like $40-$50 and it was a nice professional one that would normally cost $200+. Look for FHI or CHI brands. That is what they use in the salon. The cheap ones at Target just don't work as well, or last..you will probably be buying new ones over and over. It does depend on your hair though and how long you want to spend straightening it. Mine is a mess and with this one it only takes me ten minutes. You want ceramic because they hold heat better. I LOVE MY FLAT IRON!!! :)

HI M.,
I am a hairdresser and I reccommend any flat iron with ceramic irons. I too have curley hair and these are the only ones that will straighten my hair. Also try to get one that is only about 1 inch to 1 and 1/2 inch wide. I find that it is easier to work this thru your hair. I have very thick hair so I section the hair and start at the bottom. You don't have to pay a lot of money. If you go to Sally's you can find a nice one for less than $40.00. One that I used to buy was made by Jilberee.Styling products help a lot too. A couple to try is Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. Not only does it cut your drying time but also helps to smooth any frizzies. Aveda makes a product called Straight that I love and they also have a shampoo and conditioner line called Smooth Infusion. A little pricey but well worth the money. If you are in the area I am at the Incredible You in Mt Morris and would be glad to help you.

My daughter and I have extremely kinky, frizzy, curly hair. We use the Conair Ceramic straight iron. It has different heat setting on the dial. It also has a super power button which gets it really hot and works really well. IT makes the hair really shiny. I usually let my hair dry naturally and then straighten it and then spray a little shiner on it or dry wax to prevent frizzies. I bought the iron at Target for only about $25. I would really love the CHI straightening iron but it costs over $100. lol
Good luck!

BTW- The iron has gold plates in it. You'll recognize it by that.

My husband got me a new one for Christmas. It is wonderful! Conair Nano Silver. It is a ceramic flat iron. It heats up fast, has several settings, doesn't stick and comes with a very nice case. It's the best one I've ever had! I think it was about $60.

I echo the ladies that recommend the Maxi Glide - horrible name - I know! But I seriously would cry if mine broke and I couldn't find it anymore. I have curly hair, and it shortened my styling time in half. They have 2 different widths. It is the best!!
