Best Facial Cleanser for OILY Face

My face is so greasy that by 2 in the afternoon, you could fry an egg on it. I've been using Cetaphil because my derma recommended it but I need something stronger that will cut the grease. But I also don't want to use anything harsh on my skin! Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I have very oily skin too. I have tried many products without too much satisfaction but about a year ago, I found Boots Botanics at of all places Target. I use their shower facial scrub and their mud clay mask. The facial scrub too me is the absolute best for my skin. I also use their eye and makeup remover products. From time to time they have discounts and coupons right there at the store. Good luck!

I use Dr. Murad and love it. The best thing I could tell you to do is to go to Sephora (assuming there is one near you) and talk to them about your concerns. Everytime I have gone, they were very helpful and pointed me in the right direction of products. Also, if you don't like the stuff, you can take it back.

Ok... A couple things I did to make my oily skin manageable... I also had an extremely oily back, neck, and bottom.

To "tone down" the oils all over myself, I did the "fake n bake" only once a week. I wasn't going to get a tan... I was trying to dry the excess oils. Worked like a charm.

On my face... The ONLY thing that helps is the Apricot Scrub for normal-oily skin. I just buy the store brand stuff. It's right next to the more expensive tubes. Same ingredients.

I also use a water based, extremely light weight moisturizer (I know, it sounds rediculous, but really... it does help). It's by H2O Plus. It is a little pricey, but it works SUPER AWESOME for oily skin. It's called Face Oasis. I have to buy it online, but totally worth it. They have a great skin care line as well. You definitely get what you pay for with them. Also made in the US... In Chicago.

Good luck!

I like oil of olay's foaming cleanser but it is the one for the 7 signs of aging and I carry those little blot tissues just in case. I use Oil of Olay spf 15 moisturizer for oily/combo skin daily and if I am going to be out of the office or driving more I also apply clinique super block spf 40.
A clay masque everyother day also helps minimize my afternoon oil.
Honestly, I have never had much success with Cetaphil for the exact reason you stated above.
Best of luck.

If you're already going to a dermatologist, I'd call them and ask what they recommend since the Cetaphil isn't working.

I have horribly oily skin too after my chemo's completed. It sucks. They want to put me on Accutane. I am not interested because it's a much harsher medication than I feel I need.

The only thing you can do is to find something that stops the oil production. I just try to manage mine instead.

My cleanser of choice, right now, is Kiehl's Non-Detergent Foaming Cleanser. They also have masks with kaolin clay that are supposed to absorb extra oil, but they've not worked well for me.

Good luck. It stinks.

Hi S.S.

I have oily skin as well:

I use Cetaphil cleanser for oily skin.
I use Clinique Sensitive Skin toner with .5% salycic acid
I used Paula Begoun's 2% Salycic acid skin exfoliator before I got pregnant and bfed (my dr. said no salycic acid while bfeeding).
I would also mask once a week (i stopped as I deal with oily skin and wrinkles :))

check out www.cosmeticscop.com or www.beautypedia.com Look under free information -- there is a special section on skin care for oily or problematic skin. Paula Begun gives good ideas...

Do you have a Trader Joes near you? If you have one I highly recommend their facial cleaner with Tea Tree oil in it. It comes in a pump bottle and has a really simple name that includes facial cleanser in it but I can't think of it right now. I have been using it for years now and love it to bits! You can tell when I run out and can't make it to the store and have to use plain Ivory soap.

The more stuff you use on your face the more it overproduces to compensate. I stopped using piles of stuff and went for a more simple approach and it worked. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic so it kills the bacteria that causes so many facial problems.
