O.O.
My husband lives the Bose headphones he bought this year-but I think they were more.

My husband wants headphones similar to the Beats by Dre, but we don't want to spend much money. Does anyone know a good alternative set of headphones that either go over the ear or around the ear? He doesn't want ear buds. I want to stay under $150. Best Buy has the Beats on sale, but only in bright green or yellow, and he would prefer white or black. Thanks.

Perception of sound is very subjective. Beats are known for deep bass sound. People and even nationalities have preferences. Americans tend to favor emphasis on base. Germans tend to favor clean midrange. I tend to like more of an even spectrum. But that does not mean every American favors heavy base. Your husband should take a favorite song on MP3 player to Best Buy and listen to the differences. Higher price does not mean he will like it better.
i got bose for my husband and he loves 'em. i think they were around that price.

I have seen Beats on Groupon several times. Maybe check them out. I also have to agree with making sure it is what he really likes. I personally would HATE them! Bass actually will make me physically sick. But, my husband LOVES them.
I know folks who have purchased Beats for their kids and I personally think they've lost their minds. $200 for kids' headphones? Whaaaat?
Anyhow, these look nice and have good reviews. http://www.amazon.com/SOL-REPUBLIC-1241-04-Interchangeabl...
I bought my boys each a pair of nice looking Sony on-ear headphones for $15. They had great reviews as well.

Sennheiser HD 598 is also a great choice, both are for audiophiles. :)
Radio Shack has several different ones. I've found the clerks are knowledgable and helpful.
